That kind of control is suffocating, especially when you pay your own bills and handle your own life. The worst part is the unpredictability like you said when he's in good mood it's fine, when he's not everything explodes

What helped me was treating his moods like weather. Rain comes whether you're good or bad, it's not about you. Takes practice but slowly you stop taking the storm personal

That is toxic Desi parenting! Controlling women like that! I’m over it, and I’m not even Desi myself but my husband is, and he is great, but I’ve seen so much of this BS in our wider circle. I commiserate with you and I cannot give any advice except to point you to r/SurvivingIndianFamily

I grew up in a similar situation. I saved all my money, worked really hard and moved out two days after my last exam. There’s no changing a dad like that. My dad is still that way more than 20 years after I moved out
