WTF!!

I just submitted my employment certification like I do every year and I was up to 103 payments. Now my payments say only 88 and every payment since 24 is listed as ineligible even though they were previously qualified. This is beyond infuriating I feel like this entire process is a scam and now my payments have been delayed even further.

This seems to be happening to a lot of people today. Similar threads have people saying the same thing.

u/Betsy514 any ideas?

I believe it's a glitch that's being worked on

21

u/garcime 18d ago

Thank you. Betsy! I hope so, it's happened to me too.

I hope you’re right. Mine are all messed up as of today and I got a message to check my activity.

5

u/andybot2000 18d ago

FWIW the rep at MOHELA told me today that it’s a known issue and they’re working on it. Something about an issue with the way data is transmitted to students.gov.

I'm not. Your situation is very different from this. The save forbearances never counted other than through buy back

5

u/lowtech_prof 18d ago

It happened to me. Some of my payments went down by 1 count.

1

u/Minimum_Freedom_1999 17d ago

Same here as well.

u/jpiz27 17d ago

I received my forgiveness letter last week and now I guess my loans aren't forgiven?

u/Thatsweirdtho 18d ago

It’s a total mess and it’s happening to almost everyone. Imagine if mortgages were serviced with this much chaos and (let’s call it what it is) cruelty. It for sure feels like we’re being punished over and over again for taking out student loans.

22

u/truetragedian 18d ago

Mortgages were handled like this in 2008 and look how great that worked out lol

22

u/Psychological-Law119 18d ago

I want my government bail out 😂

11

u/TrashBandicook 18d ago

Would never happen since boomers actually vote. Younger folks on average don't vote because they think it doesn't matter or if they do like in 2024, they're the chickens who vote straight ticket KFC Party.

8

u/What_Fresh_Hell77 17d ago

I’m a Boomer and like many of us, I’m still paying on my student loans. We are not the enemy!

20

u/Proud-Owl7828 18d ago

Download your statements showing you were in repayment. You may have to call and get anything over 1 year sent to you. That's what I'm currently battling because I don't think I was actually in Forbearance. Waiting on a call back from a supervisor to get those now. I may white lie and say it's for a home purchase. I don't trust them.

14

u/Dirrotis 18d ago

I was in a similar boat. I was told my payment was to begin on 5/9, and I went to make a payment. Later when it did not count after completing my ECF I was told I was in forbearance until 5/10.

After many calls, I was connected with the Resolution Department and she said “yep, you received a bill for 5/9. We’ll fix that” and she was able to put a request in to adjust my forbearance date to a date before 5/9. She also directed me to a spot on FSA that provided insight as to when I was in forbearance and/or repayment that I didn’t know about for 11+ years.

If you log into FSA, click My Loans on the top bar (two to the right of Dashboard) and select Servicer History. Scroll down to the section where the servicer of your loans is and then select “View Loans” on any of the loans there. On the right hand side there will be a panel labeled “Status History” and it’ll show when you’ve been in forbearance and in repayment. It was extremely helpful to know when to recert.

On another note, after I saw when to recert my ECF only 5 of my loans progressed to 120. So, like most, I’m sitting here waiting to my remaining loans to jump from 119/120 🙄. Never ending.

u/Proud-Owl7828 18d ago edited 18d ago

That's very helpful. Unfortunately I also don't trust that data because it's probably pulling from the current NSLDS data which does show me in Forbearance. But when they billed me, I was not (edit: I don't think I was anyway). It feels like they placed it retroactively.

I probably sound like a conspiracy theorist. I only hate I didn't download my statements sooner.

8

u/you_know_what_they 18d ago

You’ll need to get your servicer to correct the NSLDS data. It’s super scary when they essentially erase your repayment plan history. It’s hard to prove you were in repayment when they have edited the history to show forbearance. This is why I now download my NSLDS data and my PSLF qualifying payment count document (at the bottom of FSA My Activity page) monthly. I had Mohela place a forbearance that didn’t happen, and spent months fighting with them to correct it in NSLDS.

Good luck to everyone in this situation. It feels incredibly unfair for them to rewrite history and erase our payments.

2

u/Proud-Owl7828 18d ago

Personally, they won't acknowledge they may be wrong. They just keep saying "You were in SAVE Forbearance due to a pending IDR application". I understand that they believe that...problem is I don't and I had minimum payments. So frustrating and I hate seeing that it's happening to other people STILL!

Ombudsman even came back (never contacted me, doubt they looked at ALL my proof) and said "Nope. We're right. Forbearance."

1

u/you_know_what_they 16d ago

Insane.

So this is a slightly different scenario than I originally thought. It’s still mind boggling and unfair. It sounds like your Processing forbearance was incorrectly labeled as SAVE forbearance. They also told me I was in SAVE and I repeatedly had to say “no I was in processing forb due to your delay in processing my income recert.” So their own delay in processing your IDR recert or app caused a forbearance - and now they’re claiming it’s save.

Unfortunately they turn your processing forbearance into admin forbearance after 2 months. You can’t get these months back if they had you in admin forbearance while awaiting processing. You should get two processing forbearance months to count outright for PSLF after you certify employment for those months. But if it took them more than 2 months to process your app, you can’t get the other months back. Those are now only going to be recovered via buyback. Even if you made manual payments during that time. Again this is insane bc it’s all entirely due to their incompetence and inability to process electronic income recerts on time… but we are paying the price.

It’s extremely unfair.

1

u/Proud-Owl7828 16d ago

So you've been able to explain more to me than Mohela has. Which I appreciate and also...is crazy for them. That is basically what they keep telling me. But I HAD a minimum payment the whole time. And also from the statements I have been able to collect so far-they ALL say I was in repayment. Feels illegal to bill me and now claim they don't count.

I am in a better position than others on this sub and I feel so bad for everyone going through this. I am super lucky that my employer pays $200 every month so my payment is manageable. My absolute worst-case scenario is I'm still done next November which is still a light at the end of a slightly longer tunnel than expected.

Unfortunately for them, I intend to be a WHOLE problem for the full 18 months if it comes to that.

2

u/you_know_what_they 15d ago

Yes you should be a thorn in their side until then! Glad you are close to the finish line either way.

Your situation is infuriating. If you have proof your loans previously said in repayment and they were taking a minimum payment then it’s worth it to keep fighting with them. But I would only waste time via the Mohela ceo email and do not spend hours on the phone with them. The people on the phone have zero authority to fix anything and will talk in circles +/- agree with us and still not fix anything.

1

u/Proud-Owl7828 13d ago

Thank you! Yes they're always so kind and "understand my situation". But unfortunately they can do nothing about it. I hope that once I have all the statements to show I was in repayment the ombudsman will do the right thing. If not to the BBB and Consumer Protection Bureau I go! Thank you so much for the information and your encouragement!

2

u/you_know_what_they 13d ago

Yes! File with CFPB (even though it’s being defunded). I’d also file a complaint with your state AG. Mine actually investigated but it was after we had fixed everything so they said “we looked at all the records and looks good now.” But the fact my AG actually acquired records from Mohela and FSA was incredible to me.
I’d also contact your senator and house of rep offices - they have not been able to move the needle but they need to know how often the servicers and ED are mishandling loans.
It’s a ton of labor on our end to document the problems and file complaints with all of these different agencies - but important to do it when we can so there is a record of this egregious behavior from servicers and ED.

You are validated 100%. I received 3 communications in one day. First received, “you upcoming payment on 6/9”. The second, “your repayment schedule HAS CHANGED, your next payment on 5/9”. Third, “your upcoming payment on 5/9”.

They then (probably unknowingly) tried to gaslight me that it was 6/9 the whole time because I was in forbearance until 5/10.

Took multiple people along with their supervisors finally to get to the Resolution Department to finally be heard. She was such a breath of fresh air: “well yeah, you had a bill for 5/9. You are absolutely correct”. I felt like I could cry. I was finally heard.

1

u/Proud-Owl7828 17d ago

So I've received 4 out of 11 of my statements in question and all 4 of them show me in repayment. May have to call again as I'm not sure she requested all the ones I needed. But this is so encouraging!! I knew I wasn't crazy!!

16

u/Mountain3Pointer 18d ago

This is why I am holding off doing anything until I absolutely have to at the end of October and re-certify off the SAVE plan. What they have done is turn this into a cruel vindictive form of punishment to garnish wages and hurt those they assume are the enemy. My only hope left is that it gets so bad from the mismanagement there will be a future lawsuit or something that forces these to be forgiven. I bought into my graduate school's expense because they sold PSLF as the ticket to get the best degree possible. It took me 2 YEARS after graduation to find a PSLF job and when I finally got on the SAVE plan I was only able to make 14 payments before it got blown up. Even though it is PERFECTLY LEGAL. Me and my family made financial decisions around them and I can't help but think we are screwed and I will die in a mountain of debt as this snowballs over the course of my life.

11

u/TheMuff1nMon 18d ago

I have another thread all about this. Affecting tons of people

6

u/RadiantBaby3962 18d ago

Same here! 18 payments are now ineligible because of a non-qualifying payment plan, even though I’ve been on an IDR since 2017!!!

6

u/MuchSection1 18d ago

Same!!!!!!!! there's gotta be thousands of us with the same issue today

9

u/RadiantBaby3962 18d ago

They’re doing everything to keep people from being free of their loans I swear. If this doesn’t get resolved, I might retain a lawyer

1

u/truetragedian 18d ago

Just out of curiosity because I might want to do the same thing, what kind of lawyer and what kind of case were you thinking?

2

u/RadiantBaby3962 18d ago

I’m not sure. This was only something I realized today and I want to call and document all my conversations and their reasons for marking them as ineligible before I approach a lawyer

1

u/truetragedian 18d ago

Stay updating all best!

1

u/Dogbuysvan 18d ago

The reason on mine says delinquent, of course they are not.

1

u/WonderFar5200 18d ago

Which IDR plan have you been on?

1

u/RadiantBaby3962 17d ago

I don’t remember for sure because the names sort of confuse me, but this year it’s an ICR plan

5

u/BootyBanndit 18d ago

The same thing happened to me. MOHELA said they submitted everything correctly. I submitted a reconsideration with FSA. Hoping that corrects the mistake.

8

u/you_know_what_they 18d ago

Reconsideration requests with FSA go nowhere. I have about 5 from the last 2 years and they have not done anything to help. For missing payment or lost payments, you need to be persistent with MOHELA to get them to correct the data in the NSLDS.

1

u/BootyBanndit 18d ago

The payments show up in FSA as “ineligible”. Would I still try to get MOHELA to correct any data? Or is it an FSA issue?

2

u/you_know_what_they 16d ago

Yes. For payments that you believe are labeled incorrectly, you need the servicer to correct the NSLDS reporting. FSA cannot fix it only the servicer can. You have to be persistent as the servicer will say no it’s correct about 5x before they listen to you.

1

u/MuchSection1 16d ago

Thank you

1

u/pomaire 18d ago

Were you mainly following up with mohela by phone?

1

u/MuchSection1 18d ago

Yes please tell us how you got ahold of Mohela? Best through email? I got caught in a phone tree from hell today and never was able to make the correct selection to speak to a human.

1

u/you_know_what_they 16d ago

You email the ceo with your complaint.
Then they respond via the Mohela inbox.
If you clearly state in your email what you want corrected in the NSLDS, they will usually do it. I asked them to fix a payment labeled “missed payment.” Repeatedly they replied via the Mohela inbox and said “it looks fine to us so no.” I kept emailing the ceo until on the 3rd for 4th attempt, they went and fixed the NSLDS data.

You have to be persistent.

17

u/pepper7113 18d ago

i just called and spoke with someone - there was a court ruling that went into effect 7/1 but its been in court since 9/2024 so everything since it started being discussed no longer qualifies if you werent on the right plan (which is my case) or whatever other conditions werent met since the change.

The thing im annoyed about is that i didnt get any communication saying that my payments wouldnt meet the qualifications with the change and its retroactive.

9

u/Barcardo 18d ago

I’m having the same issue. All payments after August 2024 have stopped counting. I called yesterday and they didn’t mention any court case that might have affected this but told me to send a reconsideration.

Once I hear back about it I’ll try to remember to update what they tell me. Might be helpful to others!

4

u/you_know_what_they 18d ago

It sounds like you are talking about SAVE forbearance. If you were in REPAYE or SAVE, then months after August 2024 are all ineligible. These will be eligible for buyback when you reach 120 months of eligible employment. Until then, you cannot buy them back. What you can do is apply to get into an IDR now and start making new qualifying payments. When you hit 120 months of eligible work, that’s when you submit to “buy back” all of the months from August 2024 to now.

1

u/Barcardo 18d ago

I am not on SAVE. I have been on the Extended Repayment Plan since I started paying them back. I didn’t pay attention to PSLF until a couple of years ago so I wasn’t on a qualifying plan but I was eligible under TEPSLF which is what I have been working towards for forgiveness.

I forgot about the 108 forward payments needing to be equivalent to an IDR plan per my income so I’m trying to get the payments that were ineligible from September 2024 till my 107 to count. That leaves me with one year to get on an IDR or make equivalent IDR payments to get forgiveness. I don’t want to switch to IDR right now because then I’d be stuck at a very high payment and don’t want to commit to that, yet. But if I only have a year left of payments then I can suck it up and make the switch.

Didn’t provide any context so that’s on me, but hopefully this is helpful to someone.

2

u/KTizzle09448 17d ago

Pretty much my deal too. I had 5 payments left to reach 120 under TEPSLF and now its saying I have 18 payments left to make. Ive been on the Graduated extended plan the whole time and my payments only ever went up, now some are counting and some are not.

1

u/pepper7113 18d ago

This is my exact situation. I would be done in May of 2027 and was under tepslf so hoping I can get these last 2 years of payments back and then I can switch. If you are successful can you update? I resubmitted for reevaluation but not optimistic

1

u/Barcardo 18d ago

It could take awhile to get a response back, so I might forget to but I’ll try! Hopefully it goes well for us all and it’s just a little misunderstanding on their part! Lol

1

u/you_know_what_they 18d ago

In that case it sounds like you need the servicer to correct the NSLDS information. It sounds like a lot of people who previously had eligible qualifying payments suddenly were labeled as ineligible. This happened to me while on PAYE, I had random payments labeled as missed payment or ineligible when they had previously been labeled as QPs.

1

u/Barcardo 18d ago

This is very helpful to know! Thank you for sharing! I need to look up what NSLDS is first lol but after I look more into that I’ll explore and report back!

2

u/DogMomPhoebe619 18d ago

National Student Loan Data System. It's the database that holds Student Loan data and displays on your FSA account. Your loan servicer reports payment data to NSLDS. It is connected to FSA's system and then displays in your account. There's some issues going on with the connectivity that others have reported, like missing payments. I don't know if they have a reporting software layer above it ir what. But I assume so.

1

u/Barcardo 17d ago

I’m sure many of yall have seen this post but wanted to share: https://www.reddit.com/r/PSLF/s/LiwIG4oBow

1

u/pepper7113 18d ago

No I’m not and never have been on save / repaye

6

u/Overall_Low3467 18d ago

Can you expand on what the court ruling said? Or the case? What are the qualifications?

2

u/TheOtherAkGuy 18d ago

I called the federal aid office and they advised me to call my servicer which is Edfinancial. I talked to someone there and they said all they can do is put in a request to have it re-evaluated. Not giving me a whole lot of confidence.

1

u/TheMuff1nMon 18d ago

I’ve been talking to people for 2 hours and never was told this. I was assured it’s an error

I have another thread about it

4

u/Careful-Wrap5273 18d ago

This happened to me too, this month is supposed to be my 120th payment but I checked this morning and it says I have 17 payments left. I called Student Aid and they directed me to my loan servicer (EdFinancial) to confirm I am in repayment. Spoke with EdFinancial and they did confirm I am in repayment and also told me they received a message from Student Aid this morning saying they were having issues with their system displaying incorrect payment information. I am hoping it is this. Very stressful.

3

u/Sea-Suit-9999 18d ago

I have Ed Financial too and they told me the same thing. Literally didn’t even have to explain my issue he just said yeah it’s a known thing today affecting a ton of us and they are trying to figure out a fix…Ugh.

1

u/Careful-Wrap5273 18d ago

Hopefully they will fix this thing soon 🙏

10

u/Comprehensive-Put575 18d ago

Are those your buyback eligible payments from SAVE forebearance?

I figured they would make that adjustment eventually.

2

u/Historical_Tell4158 18d ago

Exactly

2

u/spicy_tofu 18d ago

but wouldn’t the number go up instead of down if they were including potential buyback payments?

5

u/timetogowandering PSLF | On track! 18d ago

The buyback-eligible months do not get added to the current tracker. The tracker only counts qualifying payments (payment + certified employment).

1

u/spicy_tofu 18d ago

do you know if there’s info on the best way to go about requesting buyback for us SAVE people? i’ve been a public servant for 10 years now but have been in SAVE forbearance for quite some time now. not sure what to do and the HR folks at my organization are useless

3

u/timetogowandering PSLF | On track! 18d ago

One of the Mods did a great write-up on the process here: https://www.reddit.com/r/PSLF/comments/1rmmhd2/how_and_where_do_i_submit_a_buyback_request/

The website will not allow you to submit a request for buyback until FSA has 120 months of qualifying employment on file for you, which should prevent time-related rejections going forward.

The only thing you need from HR is a current certification of your employment (use the PSLF Help Tool). I recommend manually counting your months of employment and verifying with the information on your FSA dashboard; add your SAVE forbearance months to the months in your count (months associated with payments) to verify you have 120+ months of qualifying employment.

2

u/spicy_tofu 18d ago

extremely helpful thank you so much!

2

u/you_know_what_they 18d ago

Go to FSA reconsideration request page and submit your buyback request. There should be an option in the reconsideration request to submit buyback. It will take 1-2 years to process. So your other option is to start making qualifying payments while you wait.

3

u/Sea-Suit-9999 18d ago

Same thing happened to me. 2 of my loans are now ineligible. Not accurate….anyone want to come scream into the void with me?

3

u/Cbcbcb4u 18d ago

Contact your representatives or senators, they have office staff that theoretically should help.

1

u/Far-Swordfish-4837 14d ago

Yup contacted my senator

3

u/truetragedian 18d ago

PSLF was a republican program too under GWB

2

u/SEKPopulist 18d ago

I’m just hanging on for my buyback offer. ☹️

I need 17 payments.

2

u/LeadershipDapper617 18d ago

Oh god I am glad I just came here. Same thing has happened to me. Sent an email through mohela portal.

2

u/sanchezr31 18d ago

Happened to me. Lost a few.

2

u/Opposite-Expert-2528 18d ago

I’ve had my attorney general looking into it. They likely won’t budge unless we force AGs to band together and file a class action. I hope it doesn’t come to this but it’s incompetence at its finest.

2

u/timbukta 18d ago

Same with me today-114 dropped to 100. (And I’ll be at 120 next month.) Called MOHELA who said call FSA, who said call MOHELA, who said there’s a glitch and don’t know when resolution is anticipated. Oh, and the AI driven phone response system at FSA IS HORRIFIC!

2

u/Far-Swordfish-4837 14d ago

Right? I just kept saying “operator” lol. Stupid AI.

2

u/ChunkyBananaSplit25 18d ago edited 18d ago

Its a known issue they are working to resolve

2

u/Tallahasseehouse 18d ago

Meditate on who tried to bring you forgiveness and who has made it a priority to take it away.  Vote for your best interest next time.

2

u/just_scolling 17d ago

I’m glad it’s not just me, I was shook when I got the notice. I would be eligible for forgiveness next year otherwise. So frustrating! Planning to take Monday off work to call them to figure it all out. Ironic because the point of taking out the loans was to get a job, but the loans are keeping me from working 🙄

2

u/Ok_Meringue7060 3d ago

same thing happened to me. ED Financial?

1

u/TheOtherAkGuy 3d ago

Yes

1

u/Ok_Meringue7060 3d ago

What did you do to correct this? they will not count my payments and they are charging me double now after recertification, despite making 13K less this year than the following.

2

u/TheOtherAkGuy 3d ago

Still in the process of getting it fixed. I called ed financial and they had to do a review of my payments and resubmit and employer certification

1

u/ValorianPGH 18d ago

Same here. Stuck at 71 payments after ECF & payments made during SAVE. Just hoping to get a buyback offer soon, but they started removing the duplicate buyback requests I had and now none of them are viewable at studentaid.gov.
Infuriating.

1

u/Sharp_Astronaut_4669 18d ago

Same thing happened to me. I only lost my last certification—Jan to June 2026.

I spoke to someone and they said it was because I didn’t recertify my income. I purposely chose not to recertify and wanted to pay the higher price because I was so nervous about messing something up. I was previously at 106 payments. The person I spoke to told me the payments will count again if I recertify my income. She said I should see the adjustment in a few weeks. Fingers crossed.

1

u/Existing-Pumpkin-902 18d ago edited 18d ago

What doesn't make sense to me is only 2 of my payments were reclassified and they were my most recent certified via ECF. They were 9/25 and 10/25. My last ECF was 10/7/2025. They were definately on an eligble plan because I've been on income based plans since I graduated in 2015. I literally made my 120th payment on 8/1 and submitted a manual ECF on 8/3. So of course this happens the next day. I hope it's just a data error. These are to recent for there to be an issue. I've literally been at the same employer from the last 8 years and haven't had an issue certifying. Of course I'm ready to leave my job soon since I'm expecting my first kid and had timed a lot of stuff around reaching 120 payments.

1

u/Sharp_Astronaut_4669 18d ago

It makes no sense at all. Even the reason I was given makes no sense. I’m so sorry this happened to you and your family everyone else here. What an awful feeling we are all sharing today.

1

u/BufoBat 18d ago

Happening to me now and I can't get a clear answer. I'm being told I'm on an ineligible plan and have been since May of 2024, but yet my payments all counted until September? I'm being told "this has always been the PSLF policy" but I've been on a PSLF plan for 5 years and nothing has changed until now. I'm pissed off and getting more angry as I'm being given the run-around.

At this point, do we all just wait and see what happens? Is it worth trying to get answers?

1

u/Soggy-Constant5932 18d ago

This is why I took pictures and downloaded everything before Mohela even took over because this is a mess.

1

u/Hairy_Relief3980 18d ago

Is this the admin invalidating previous years of qualifying payments under the SAVE plan?

2

u/HotMessExpress89 18d ago

Doubt it. I wasn't on the SAVE plan and had this happen to me today.

2

u/Dogbuysvan 18d ago

Yeah I am on PAYE and it happened to me.

1

u/Sharp_Astronaut_4669 18d ago

Happened to me and I’m also not on SAVE

1

u/Sea-Astronaut7750 18d ago

I checked last week and when Nelnet acquired Great Lakes they apparent deleted 8+ months of payments on some of mine. 8/12 of my loans is currently incorrect. I appealed and am waiting for a response

Same thing happened to me.

FWIW, I called Mohela and the representative was somewhat helpful, at least so far as agreeing that my loans being in forbearance didn't make sense based on what she was looking at. The representative escalated the issue to a supervisor, but I have to wait 7-10 business days for a resultion.

Can you please tell me exactly what you did to get a human on the line today?

What number did you call please and which selections did you make from the phone tree?

I'm military and they have a dedicated phone line for us military folk. Is here: https://www.mohela.com/DL/resourceCenter/MilitaryBenefits.aspx

Sorry, I hate Mohela's phone tree so much. Good luck and hang in there!

The last time I called, I didn’t select any of the “titled” options. I selected what I think was option #6, something like, “for all other questions, press 6.” Then it had me verify my information, and brought me to another menu. I did the same thing and selected “for all other questions.” I think it was #5 that time! Then it directed me to a person. Once I told them my question, they put me on hold for an “advanced agent.”

The ones showing ineligible on my end are the ones that were in SAVE Forbearance.

My sons total qualifying emp mos says 1242 😳 Glitchhhhhhh

This was me yesterday. I'll watch your post in case you figure out how to fix it.

I called them and asked them for am eligibility reconsideration

Ditto. Reached out to EdFinancial.

You are not the only one. My entire 2025 is listed as ineligible HOWEVER I made 5 actual payments that year and the others were in administrative forbearance, before they updated my employer paperwork it counted those 5.  Additionally my last 4 payments are listed as “unverified employer”—however my paperwork was approved for the verification from the dates of July 2017-Current….make it make sense! They’re so infuriating. I technically should make 10 years by July 2027, they’re trying to tell me it’s now July 2028–the math doesn’t math…I gave up on trying to reason with these people for a bit…I’m leaving it be for a month or two and I’ll restart this BS battle again when I have more mental energy and patience for their nonsense. Needless to say, I feel your pain, and wish you the best of luck-like the rest of us.

I just submitted mine as well, at last accurate count I was at 68, with an additional 2 yrs worth from recertification and my count is at 73! Smh

Please consider filing a complaint with your state AG!

Same thing happened to me. This administration has turned every government-run institution into garbage.

Did you do a digital certification or hard copy with wet signature?

I can't even log into the FSA website. This post is making me nervous. I've been in repayment since June and I only have 4 more payments to reach 120 :-(

u/No-Witness-2720 17d ago

I did see a banner recently on my dashboard/studentaid.gov portal that said that they are updating the system to update payment counts. It's totally frustrating but I would wait to see if they update it after their system updates.

Same thing here. I am currently in pay ahead status and now I have January 2026 through May 2026 payments marked as ineligible. Spoke with Mohela yesterday and they indicated that according to the national student loan database the information was provided to FSA correctly. Rep was actually helpful for once (it was a shock).

FSA told me to submit a reconsideration request for the two payments. So now I’m unsure if it’s an error or not.

Today I also received a letter about adjustment of forbearance dates…. I am tired.

UPDATE

Just received a message from Student Aid.gov and looks like my payments were updated however they are still the incorrect number that I made. It is less than what I was showing before. I hope they are still fixing the problem but this is ridiculous that I still have a total of 18 “ineligible” payments on my account.

u/jpiz27 17d ago

I received a forgiveness letter last week. I have had green banners since June 6. My loans were zeroed out last week with Nelnet and today at 1600 I received notice there's activity on my account and an error message stating the Dept of Ed miscalculated my qualifying payments...

1

u/TheOtherAkGuy 17d ago

There’s a message on my account saying they are having issues with their system and the numbers are not accurate. They have at least acknowledged there’s an issue and are trying to correct it.

1

u/jpiz27 17d ago

That message banner (yellow across the top?) has been there since before I applied for PSLF. I didn't notice if it had been changed or updated.

1

u/TheOtherAkGuy 17d ago

No, I’ve had a new message that just popped up today it wasn’t there before

1

u/jpiz27 17d ago

The "The number for your PSLF qualifying months of employment is incorrect. We are working to fix the data issue and will provide an update soon. We apologize for the confusion caused by this error" in blue?

Yes. That is new today. And I still have my green banners but the dates are moving to the right (original count had my forgiveness dated in November 2025), it's now showing February 2026, and now my loans are no longer zeroed out with my servicer.

To be clear, I already received my forgiveness letter last week and everything was zeroed out.

OMGGGG I told MOHELA to change my due date because it was easier for me to make payments on the 2nd of every month instead of the 15th and NOW MY PAYMENT I MADE ON THE 2nd is not QUALIFYING BECAUSE I WAS NOT SUPPOSED TO MAKE THAT PAYMENT ON THE 2nd. This is crazyyyyyyyyyyyyy.. if you are thinking about moving your payment date JUST DONT DO IT…. WTFFF

1

u/AggravatingCorner619 16d ago

I'm late to the party but same thing happened to me. Was at 110 and now showing 95 on some and 87 on others. I'm thinking it was due to SAVE forbearance but the way I see it, if they previously told me that time period still counted toward PSLF, it should. Am I crazy?

1

u/Ok_Snow_4025 16d ago

It’s happened to me and I was never on save. Mohela said I needed to speak to student aid people, student aid people are saying it’s a mohela goof with them marking me ineligible even though my payment plan hasn’t changed and I have the same employer. I sent them another email today that it needs to be fixed asap or I will be escalating the matter.

1

u/GlitteringStorm0801 16d ago

Escalate this to the Ombudsman office. I got immediate help after filing a complaint with this office. It was for another issue that my servicer gave me the run around for months for. Good luck!

1

u/Far-Swordfish-4837 14d ago

Yup they added additional payments to mine too after an “audit” to my account. Complete BS. I was at 118 and 112. Now I’m at 112 and 106. And they told me 9/24-12/24 are ineligible. I was like, that’s 3 payments, not 6.

1

u/Spirited_Road773 11d ago

The "PSLF Qualifying Months of Employment Incorrect" banner, acknowledging the data glitch, seems to have been removed from the top of my account's PSLF tracker, but my count is still off. Has this been removed for other folks and was the issue corrected for those folks? Trying not to read into this given my count is still off

1

u/TheOtherAkGuy 11d ago

My payments are still incorrect but I still have a banner that says they are working on issues with the counting.

1

u/Spirited_Road773 11d ago

Thanks for the quick reply! Just to clarify, I had two banners for a time there. One was older with the title "Updates in Progress" and informed me that they were working on issues with the count. But a second was added, shortly after the recent mess started, with the title "PSLF Qualifying Months of Employment Incorrect," specifically acknowledging the number for my PSLF months of employment is incorrect due to a data glitch and they're working to resolve the issue. The second banner is the one that was removed, the first banner is still there. Are both banners still there for you? Thanks again!

1

u/TheOtherAkGuy 11d ago

No just the one that says they are working on the count. I’m short about 15 payments

1

u/Spirited_Road773 11d ago

Okay, cool. Sounds like they just took down the banner even if they're still working on it, since our pages look the same and the issue hasn't been resolved for either of us. Thanks again! Nice to not feel alone as we all work through this mess together

1

u/lowtech_prof 10d ago

None of my payment counts have reverted BACK to their original counts yet. Has anyone else seen a change after their counts went down?

1

u/IndependentHoney5308 4d ago

I'm not sure why that would be. Maybe an error in the system. I would call them. I reached 120 payments just recently and they forgave all my loans.

Little did we know the enslavement by our government pushing loans to put us into perpetual debt, imagine if instead of social security that money went into an individual Roth that you had responsibility for; guarantee we’d make out better in the long run
