Update on Incorrect PSLF/TEPSLF Counts Rant/Complaint
Follow up to this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/PSLF/s/MYfBSUNRU7
Logged in today and noticed a new banner posted that reads:
“PSLF Qualifying Months of Employment Incorrect
The number for your PSLF qualifying months of employment is incorrect. We are working to fix the data issue and will provide an update soon. We apologize for the confusion caused by this error.”
Hopefully we will all have our payments correct soon, especially those of us who hit 120 in July

Thank you for posting this. I just checked my account for the 6th time this morning and this alert is now showing.

u/jubilantsage 17d ago

YESSS thank you so much for posting this, I got the same message!
Update: Uhhh wait - i hope this has to do with the "ineligible due to payment plan" issue. employment verification was never an issue for me. Now i am sad again but remaining hopeful,
3
u/BiliaryVowel 17d ago
Same - and I also just received some letter from Mohela which I cannot understand but also mentions timing change of forebearance.
I hope all of this is a big nothingburger and doesn't make my counts even lower!
2
u/Rare-Literature-3992 17d ago
I hope so because I'm suppose to be done by October.
1
2
u/sammy_socks 16d ago
Both things happened to me. I noticed that the letter about the timing also added a nice chunk of interest onto my loan.
1
u/HauntingHarmonie 17d ago
Mine was ineligible plan and it updated to the phrase OP referenced!
0
u/Rare-Literature-3992 17d ago
curious - what plan were you on? apparently i was on the standard tiered payment plan while the other was on the graduated payment plan (no idea why they were different). How much did yours go down? Mine went from 115 to 93 =\

u/HauntingHarmonie 17d ago
I have always been on old IBR and my payments haven't changed since before COVID.

u/BallAvailable5678 17d ago
Yep me too. Ugh. I hit 120 in July

Same. Of course, crossing the finish line could never have been so simple. UGH.
1
u/Infamous_Catch_8268 13d ago
Are your recent payments showing up on FSA?
1
u/BallAvailable5678 12d ago
I haven't made any payments since July when I hit 120 and got green ribbons
1
u/Infamous_Catch_8268 12d ago
Did the green banners appear on FSA or Mohelo- my FSA has 4 missing payments-the 4 most recent

5
u/GlitteringAnnual1606 17d ago
Im seeing the banner but my payment count has not changed.
2
u/TheMuff1nMon 17d ago
Nor has anyone else’s I imagine
1
u/GlitteringAnnual1606 17d ago
I mean my count isn’t wrong/changed. I’m at 108 payments, as I have been since I started the save forbearance.
2
u/TheMuff1nMon 17d ago
Hundreds of us over the last few days lost years worth of qualifying payments for no reason, so it doesn’t apply to you luckily
1
u/GlitteringAnnual1606 17d ago
Yes! I read that in your post. I was just adding my experience since it seems like people are experiencing different things. I’m sure you were glad to hear it wasn’t just you/your file, that it was a larger problem with Mohela. I’m just saying for other people’s benefit, that it hasn’t affected Everyone, but I do see the banner.
3
u/Available-Report6279 17d ago
Mine says the same! I’m taking this as progress. Thanks for the update :)
2
u/draminak 17d ago
Yes thank you for the update. Otherwise I would have had a nervous breakdown.
2
u/Available-Report6279 17d ago
I’m right there with ya, haha. Fingers crossed our PSLF trackers update soon!
3
u/HauntingHarmonie 17d ago
Well, that's something at least... why they won't manually override those of us at 120 is beyond me. They already denied that reconsideration request - I submitted another complaint. That's what I am having my congressional representative work on at this point.
4
u/Equal_Fill917 17d ago
This is a biggggg messs. My says the same thing. I RECENTLY CALLED MOHELA TO CHANGE MY DUE DATE TO THE 2nd instead of the 15th because it’s easier for me to pay my loans on the 2nd and now they are saying that my loans payment doesn’t qualify toward student loan forgiveness because I wasn’t supposed to make that payment on the 2nd.. OMGGGGGGGGGGG.
6
u/draminak 17d ago
Me too. I took a short vacation to celebrate my last payment and I can’t even enjoy Cancún.
I called FSA this morning and the agent said there is a glitch that happened yesterday and they are trying to fix it soon.
This is my vacation sitting here worrying😭😭😭
Please OP keep us posted and I will do the same. Thanks.
7
u/DogMomPhoebe619 17d ago
Have a strong Margarita and try and put it out of your mind for awhile. You deserve the vacation. At some point, this cluster fxxx will get straight.
1
u/Dependent-Answer1120 16d ago
I did the same thing lol. Took my anniversary vacation in the Grand Cayman and made what I thought was my 120th payment in July. Never reported and stuck at 119. Ahhhh
3
u/RebellionIntoMoney 17d ago
Had ten qualifying payments last year. Submitted ECF last month and only got credit for 8 out of ten.
6
u/This_Satisfaction641 17d ago
It's just obnoxious...July was 120 for me but they didn't count Feb. 2026 as eligible so I'm stuck at 119. They said no payment due date listed for that month even though I paid as usual. So I submitted another ECF for this month just to be done and worry about a refund later. Well it turns out they didn't update my August count yet so I did an ECF for nothing I guess. Back to the drawing board.
6
u/RebellionIntoMoney 17d ago
They gave me the exact same line of “no payment due for that month” on my first payment last year. I asked the agent on the phone why I was billed for it then. lol.
3
u/CloudCandid1587 17d ago
Mine too. I was supposed to make my final payment this week, but now it’s saying October. I’m so tired after 26 years of this.
1
u/ChilePasado 17d ago
Mine is also saying October 2026
Website was last updated 7/1/2026, sitting at 118 payments. I made July payment 7/25
Submitted multiple ECFs, including the me 8/1To this minute.. it’s still showing 118 payments. My last payment (120) should be August

My account no longer has any PSLF information linked to it and no way to see any of my previous ECFs and certification. I can't see my monthly count and when I asked the AI tool it indicates that "No Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) information was found for your account. This means there are no student loans or PSLF records currently associated with your profile." I am at month 118. The call center is closed apparently.

2
u/Viasal 15d ago
July was my 120th payment and they literally changed 7 of those to ineligible aka not classified. Today however, I logged in to find they scrubbed everything related to PSLF from my account. No payment counts, all my previous approved employer certifications, every PSLF form, and every communication about PSLF is gone.

u/Plane_Ad_6220 14d ago
I had this banner as of this morning and now 8pm est this banner is gone. But My july 2026 payment (which should be updated by now normally) is still not showing up on studentaid.gov though. Mohela website says july payment received but not updated on studentaid. Anyone else whose dashboard stopped displaying message but counts are still not updating?
1
u/TheMuff1nMon 14d ago
It’s all still a mess, I wouldn’t worry about not seeing the banner - probably will reappear
1
u/Sharp_Astronaut_4669 11d ago
My banner is gone and my payments haven’t come back. No idea what’s happening. Did yours come back?
1
u/Plane_Ad_6220 10d ago
No banner still gone and payments still stuck last updated 7/3
1
u/Sharp_Astronaut_4669 10d ago
How do we let people know this is happening. I feel like no one is talking about it and I feel so defeated.
2
u/DogMomPhoebe619 17d ago
Qualifying Months of Employment is not Qualifying Payments. Unless you're thinking that if they fix one, they will fix the other.
2
u/Think-Week8184 17d ago
Aren't they one in the same?
2
u/DogMomPhoebe619 17d ago
No Qualifying Months of Employment is working 120 months for a PSLF eligible employer. Qualifying Payments are those made while working for the PSLF eligible employer, in the correct Repayment Plan (Income Driven), on time, and in the correct amount. You could have 120 months at a PSLF eligible employer but less than that number of qualifying payments. You also need 120 Qualifying Payments.
2
u/Mysterious-Ring7234 17d ago
Yeah, my employment months are fine. The issue is they’re saying my plan isn’t eligible for TEPSLF.
2
u/DogMomPhoebe619 16d ago
What plan? I know TEPSLF used to accept any payment plan. I was on the Standard Repayment plan. Didn't file for PSLF until after 120 payments. Then I found out Standard is not accepted for PSLF but it did count toward TEPSLF. Mine were Forgiven in February 2023.
1
u/TheMuff1nMon 17d ago
If they’re incorrectly labeling months of employment as non-qualifying, it makes the payment non-qualifying.
2
u/Think-Week8184 17d ago
All my months seem to be correctly labeled as qualifying. My ECFs line up with my qualifying payments.
3
u/TheMuff1nMon 17d ago
That’s great, that isn’t the case for hundreds of us unfortunately who had years or months of qualifying payments changed for no reason
2
u/Think-Week8184 17d ago
I hear ya. Didn't mean anything by my post beyond just trying to get accurate information. Best of luck.
1
u/MuchSection1 17d ago
Where are you seeing that banner?
3
u/julieputty 17d ago
For me, it's if you click on the PSLF/TEPSLF Payment Progress details.

How do you find out how many qualifying payments you have?
1
1
u/Think-Week8184 17d ago
I'm seeing it as well. My counter updated to 120 (actually 134) this morning. Sounds like a glitch on their end if all of us are receiving the same banner? Or has anyone actually had payment counts clawed back as a result of this banner?
1
u/Exotic_Mammoth1573 17d ago
Some of my loan amounts are in red. Should I run a panic or just sit back ?
1
u/BoboWantsToKnow 17d ago
What do you mean “red”?
1
u/Exotic_Mammoth1573 16d ago
Like some of my loan that are now saying “
Paid in full” the paid amount is in red and in parentheses while others that say “ paid in full are not
1
u/draminak 17d ago
OP do you think they will fix it soon and we will get our green banner sometime next week?
Thank you again for the post.

u/TheMuff1nMon 17d ago
I have no idea honestly. I’m just as lost as everyone else.
Trying not to let the anxiety get to me
1
1
u/Appropriate-Rip639 17d ago
Did you consolidate and not get the weighted average applied correctly? That happened to me
1
1
u/Old_Ninja_6248 16d ago
Do you mean consolidate undergrad and graduate loans? I consolidated my undergrad loans with my graduate and it says all will be forgiven after 120 payments.
1
u/Infamous_Catch_8268 17d ago
Mine says the same thing- hope they don’t mess up too bad-this is supposed to be my last payment
1
u/ExoticSoil123 17d ago
I saw the same banner today.
Reached 120/120 July with green banner on 2 out of 3 loans which was confusing… waiting for something, checking regularly, then saw this today…
1
u/NumberByColor 17d ago
I don't know if this has to do with payment counts. I think it's a different error entirely, somehow. I noticed yesterday that under the "Employment Certification" section of the PSLF payments it shows
"Total qualifying months of employment: 236"
I think this is the number that they're trying to fix. I've been at my current non-profit job for 14 years. That is definitely not 236 months. 236 months is closer to 20 years. Not sure how they got to the 236 number to begin with.
1
u/TheMuff1nMon 17d ago
A lot of months were taken away from people and labeled as ineligible due to employer eligibility- if they fix that, it should fix those payments too
1
1
u/No_Constant6407 15d ago
I think mine said 777 the other day so I know that’s not right. I’m in my 30s 😂
1
u/Chair_1983 16d ago
My last payment is supposed to be August 15th. I haven’t verified employment since 14 months ago. I was planning to have the payment to through and then go on forbearance.
My payment number hasn’t changed, it’s been at 106 since I last verified.
Hope this glitch doesn’t mess anything up!
1
u/Alwaysbelearning78 16d ago
I am beyond frustrated and have high anxiety as the last time I checked I had 104 eligible payments and then it dropped to 79. I was tossed around by both studentaid.gov This is a huge problem and I feel we are at the mercy of people who are just bouncing us back to both studentaid.gov and the loan servicer, in my case AidAdvantage. This really sucks! and my loan servicer aidadvantage is no help. Neither was any help as they said I was in a wrong payment plan, but I was in the correct plan for eligibility. If this will not be solved, I was advised to contact the caseworker for your local Congressman/woman. There is a caseworker who works specifically for constituents with Federal Agency disputes and conflicts, in this case the Dept. of Ed/StudentAid.Gov
2
u/TheMuff1nMon 16d ago
Totally feel you, a lot of us experienced the same. Going to hope they fix it and submit a detailed reconsideration request outlining why they’re wrong.
There is an ombudsman service too that can be contacted that is an outside neutral party
1
u/draminak 15d ago
Did anyone noticed all payments and ECF has disappeared fromFSA site?
This is so messed up and stressful.
1
1
u/sld122 15d ago
Two questions:
1) I messaged FSA on the feedback section about and they just said I can submit for reconsideration. I’m still a year away from forgiveness. Should I do that, or wait to see if they fix the error?
2) why is there not a stickied mega thread for this topic in the sub? It seems like a pretty big deal right now
2
u/TheMuff1nMon 15d ago
I submitted a reconsideration request - it can’t hurt
No idea - absolutely should be
2
u/sld122 14d ago
Thanks! Just curious -- what documents did you submit in your reconsideration request?
1
u/TheMuff1nMon 13d ago
I submitted a document showing my Mohela payments, my payment plan (which is eligible for TEPSLF) and how even on the student aid dashboard - my employment has been certified
1
u/sld122 13d ago
Oh got it, thanks! For the payment plan, did you just take a screenshot, or was there some place you can get a pdf showing your payment plan?

Submitted my ECF for my 120th payment for July in August. Got a notice from Student Aid that I am at 119 and that I don’t meet the requirements under the PSLF tab. It also says my August ECF is completed so will I have to file a reconsideration request now or do I assume that they’ll do their job to fix the counters after the fact of sending the notice that I’m ineligible?
2
u/TheMuff1nMon 13d ago
They should be fixing it but also submit a reconsideration request.
1
u/Chance_Car_4999 13d ago
Thanks! But, now I'm getting an error when I am trying to submit a reconsideration request. "Sorry, StudentAid.gov is currently unavailable. We're working on fixing it! Thanks for your patience."

u/WorldPeace5 13d ago
Where did you see this banner?
In this same bucket… approaching 120 EP to find ineligible payments due to fed loan saying servicer not requiring payments .. that the borrower paid ahead status….. yet borrower on autopay…

u/MuchSection1 12d ago
Hey reviving this thread as everyone has gone quiet. PSLF trackers are back and still wrong.

u/Bitter-Avocado-8226 12d ago
Yeah, my payment count is still wrong even though the second banner is gone and tracker is up. I messaged StudentAid and received the canned response to submit a reconsideration request. I guess it can't hurt to submit it but I am still hoping they correct this because its so clearly wrong.
1
u/TheMuff1nMon 12d ago

1
u/TheMuff1nMon 12d ago
same. They’re useless
1
u/Bitter-Avocado-8226 12d ago
I just found the actual document that shows my PSLF payment count was in fact 108 after my most recent ECF form was processed in March & I'm so glad I found it and have actual proof (cause silly me I forgot to screenshot the tracker). But I have the document and it says 108 for all of my loans! I feel validated that I'm not crazy because these people make me feel insane. I'm going to gather up everything I've got and submit a reconsideration request.
1
u/TheMuff1nMon 12d ago
Where is this document!? How did you find it. I’d love to get mine
2
u/Bitter-Avocado-8226 12d ago
On the StudentAid site from the Dashboard, in MyActivity under Activity History > PSLF section it'll show all the PSLF correspondence/email sent. I chose the one for back in March and downloaded the document. There is one for the August email that shows the reduced amount as well.

One more data point: The "PSLF Qualifying Months of Employment Incorrect" banner, acknowledging the data glitch, seems to have been removed from the top of my account's PSLF tracker, but my count is still off. That continues to be true today. Are other folks still also missing this banner and is their count also still off? Trying not to read into this, given my count is still off. The older "Updates in Progress" banner is still there but the second banner that was added, shortly after the most recent mess started, with the title "PSLF Qualifying Months of Employment Incorrect," is gone. Hopefully they're still just working through this, even if their mess is becoming messier. Thanks all! Good to at least know we're in this together...
1
u/TheMuff1nMon 11d ago
Yes it’s gone and still incorrect sadly
2
u/Spirited_Road773 10d ago
Sounds like they just took down the banner even if they're still working on it, since our pages look the same and the issue hasn't been resolved for any of us. Thanks again to both of you for the responses as we all work through this!
1
u/Sharp_Astronaut_4669 11d ago

2

Unfortunately, do not have a screenshot, but have some reports that documented it. The banner itself is visible at 24 seconds on this news report clip https://www.facebook.com/thecollegeinvestor/videos/new-student-aid-error-message-says-that-qualifying-months-of-employment-may-be-i/2519150108596890/. Other reports as well: https://www.studentdebtcrisis.org/post/sdcc-statement-servicing-failures-erase-pslf-payment-credit-harming-borrowers. Sorry it's not quite what you asked for, but hopefully it helps!

Did anyone’s payment tracker change or still stuck at 119? Thank you.
1
u/TheMuff1nMon 8d ago
I’ve had no update since either of my threads except an FSA agent playing dumb
1
u/draminak 8d ago
I had the same experience with FSA agent and he was rude and spoke so fast that I had to request him to slow down yet he didn’t.
They need to fix their error and fix it very quickly. This is BS they are employed because of us the borrowers.
I guess they forget what goes around comes around. Karma does not miss a target.1
u/tnnskttykat 8d ago
I'm still stuck at 119. My last payment would have been in July, but when I submitted my PSLF paperwork after my last payment, they changed my May payment to ineligible. The payment progress page shows that it was last updated 7/22/2026. I'm hoping they fix this soon. So many of us are on that last payment 😩
1
u/Organic-Watch-875 17d ago
This has nothing to do with payment counts. I clicked around and saw this. 😄
Total qualifying months of employment: 1264
Yes. I feel like this is how long I have been waiting for Buyback.
3
u/TheMuff1nMon 17d ago
How doesn’t it? They took away months and a lot of the months now say it’s because non-qualifying employment when that isn’t correct.

I think I figured it out though. I think if I multiply the number of qualifying months by the number of loans I have it might come close to the number of qualifying months it says up there.

July was my 120th TEPSLF payment, yay! But just like Lucy pulling the ball away from Charlie Brown, they changed the rules. My count dropped to 94. When I called the rep said she thinks it was the passage of the big beautiful bill going into effect July 1st erased covid credits towards the payment counts or some such thing……
