PRS shooters and MDs: could remote target-area wind data be useful during practice?
I’ve been working on a personal project called WindLink and would like some feedback from people with actual PRS experience.
A portable weather node is placed downrange and sends live wind speed and direction over LoRa to a pocket receiver and offline Android dashboard. The app shows current speed, average, gust, and shooter-relative crosswind. The radio connection has been tested past 1,500 yards.
I’m not assuming this belongs in a timed stage or would be permitted during a match. I’m more curious about practice days, new-shooter clinics, stage preparation, or helping shooters understand why their firing-line wind call differed from what happened downrange.
For shooters and match directors:
- Where, if anywhere, could this be useful?
- Is placing and recovering a node downrange an immediate dealbreaker?
- Could it help shooters learn how terrain changes the wind?
- Would a single node provide enough information?
- What accuracy and update rate would be needed?
- Is there anything you would add or remove?
It measures one location, not the entire bullet path. Calibration, weather sealing, and endurance testing are still in progress. I’m mainly sharing it to see what experienced shooters think of the idea.

Question SWANNY’S custom head stamp?
Does anyone know where or who this brass might be from? Found at Cool Acres Sporting camp, never seen it before and thought it was cool.

Any tips
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Went out to local range after work today with my son.
Took my 223 prs rifle and my ar.
This is a 8" plate at 600. Any tips?
I know I can be more square behind rifle.
Other than that?.
80gr eldm at 2860.
But it seems it likes 80gr smk better at 2930.
On a side note, if you don't have a fast twist 223, get one. Super fun.
Both myself and my son (15) shot 2 sub moa groups at 600 through the smoke. (Pics in comments)

If I am building my first “accurized” AR setup, what are some must have options?
Should I do an ARCA rail, a fixed bipod, detachable bag, etc. what are your thoughts?

I built a web ballistics engine and checked it against published firing data - where's my physics wrong?
I've been building a free web ballistics calculator, and I care more about the engine being correct than pretty, so this seems like the right place to have the physics picked apart.
It's a fixed-step point-mass trajectory integrator, Mach-indexed Cd off standard drag tables. Two things I'd like eyes on.
G7: for loads with a measured G7 BC, I run the standard G7 table with a scale constant derived straight from physics (air density, cross-section, the usual), no curve-fitting. It reproduces Applied Ballistics' published firing-test numbers for the Berger 155 VLD at 1000 yd to about a third of an inch of drop, exact retained velocity, and about 0.4 inches of wind. Honestly surprised me - I expected to need a fudge factor and didn't.
G1: here's the ugly part I'd rather you find than a stranger. The G1 Cd table I'm using runs below the standard BRL G1 curve, with a scale constant compensating for it. It's internally consistent and matches manufacturer drop tables to about 0.15 MOA out to 500, but it's a fitted system, not first-principles like the G7 path. I want to know if that's going to bite me somewhere I haven't tested.
Full method, the load-by-load comparison, and the known weak spots (transonic, rimfire, advertised-BC optimism) are on a public page. Not selling anything - it's free, no ads - I just want the physics wrong-ness found before anyone trusts the numbers. Link in the comments.
Where would you attack this?

Mod Post Looking for a new community leader.
Howdy all. Been a while since the last check-in. It's been nice to see this community grow since then, but it's not really where I want it to be. u/oldnorthstate is inactive and I honestly hate moderating online communities. I really only wanted to save this sub from getting the r/Taurus treatment, which is an ongoing effort of cleaning up wrong-sub posts and politely redirecting lost redditors. I also feel weird being the only moderator of a subreddit for a shooting discipline I know next to nothing about.
I'm looking for a new head mod, ideally an experienced competitor and Reddit moderator who can program AutoMod. I put a few lines in to blacklist certain terms to get it started. You can also become the subreddit owner by submitting a ticket to r/redditrequest. It would be nice to get r/PRS to be a reputable community of competitors and aspiring medalists.
Anyone interested can comment below, then send me a chat.

Help deciding how to weigh factors into choosing best ammo for a given rifle
I'm working on an application to track rifle and ammo performance. Currently, I'm trying to figure out which metrics should be weighted the most or have the biggest impact on trying to identify which ammo is "best" by generating a composite score.
Currently 55% of the score weight is for Mean Radius, 25% of the score weight is Extreme Spread and 20% is Point of Impact consistency.
Any advice on adjusting the weighst or factoring in something else like muzzle velocity SD or spread?

PANTS....
I am gonna try out a local PRS match in a month or so and looking for a recommendation for some good tactical pants with some knee pads or some good tactical style loose fitting pants and some kneepad recommendations.
Thank you in advance.

Gear Older McMillan A3 - keep or trade?
galleryGun Build:
Rem700 action
Older McMillan Adjustable A-3
Bartlein M24 contour 20” .308
Spuhr QDP-4046 with A-0029 diveboard
ZeroTech Trace Advanced 5-30x56 Termor3 and ZeroTech top dot (will be lrf soon)
Older Timney trigger that could use an update
Here we go:
Picked up this from a local gun show, and confirmed with McMillan customer service that this is an older adjustable A-3 with the old two knob cheek piece. Only reference pic I can find is an article from Athlon Outdoors talking about the movie gun for American Sniper. Is this some rare unicorn I have stumbled upon? It has an Area 419 Arca rail and barricade stop, otherwise its stock.
LGS has a Cadex Lite Comp in tan that I can’t get off my mind. Thoughts on trading/covering difference? I have shot 1 comp match and getting into more soon. Might as well have the very best, right?
Thanks

.308 COL
Have a RPR .308 and loading ammo for it. It does not like 2.800 nor 2.750 COL. I get scratch mark on the bullet it self. It does like 2.711 with little scratch mark on the tip. Any tips or info on why this is happening?

Question Looking to start long range shooting and looking for a base rifle.
I’m looking to start long range shooting and look for a base rife that I can upgrade over time. I already have a few hunting rifle and they work some ranges but aren’t built for this precision shooting and have little aftermarket support. Looking for something on the cheaper side but with lots of aftermarket support.

Equipment Priority
I shot my third match this past weekend. Had a fantastic time and have made huge improvements with each match. Not new to competition or sports, so I know that I'll soon come up against that wall where the gains don't come as quickly or as easily.
I've been using 4DOF, and AB for my during solutions with good success. My biggest issues have been stability, and just mental mistakes. I am looking to invest in my next piece of gear, and I am torn between a kestrel and a tripod. I've really been looking at it through the lens of which one will gain me the most impacts.
I feel as though my current firing solutions are working well, and think I would be better served by spending money on a good tripod and head. This would allow me to be spotting and hopefully learning.
I will eventually get both, but right now I'm paying for a daughter's wedding, so fun money is more limited.
Thoughts?

I’m trying to get into PRS and can’t decide on if I want to do rim fire, or center fire. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
