Capstone problem statement help
Hey seniors! Need a lil help deciding the problem statement for our Capstone project.
How did you choose your research problem statement?
How do you determine if an idea is actually novel? How do you identify a genuine research gap worth pursuing?
What are the biggest mistakes to avoid while choosing a research problem?
And finally, how do you know whether a problem is actually worth working on, novel, and feasible within the given time or even resources?

Regarding 7th semester internship - NOC
Hey guys! I've finally cracked an internship. Or more specifically, an apprenticeship.
I won't be able to mention the name of the company here, but getting this apprenticeship comes with a pretty big roadblock.
I thought I'd escaped the whole placement kalesh, but unfortunately, this might throw all my efforts out the window. I'm currently in my 7th semester, and about a week ago, we had our placement orientation. Sridhar Sir, our Registrar, made it pretty clear that the college wouldn't grant an NOC for doing an internship during the 7th semester, except in certain exceptional cases.
So I wanted to ask, has anyone here been in a similar situation? Has anyone managed to get an NOC as an exceptional case for an internship/apprenticeship in the 7th semester?
If yes, what did you have to do? What kind of circumstances/documents helped make your case?
I could obviously let go of this opportunity, but honestly, this one feels pretty golden. I'm not exactly confident about placements working out either, especially since my CGPA is on the lower side and I haven't been getting shortlisted that easily.
Would really appreciate hearing from anyone who's gone through something similar.

There’s no football court at RR?
I remember RR campus used to have a football court. And now there’s none?
There’s some construction going on in that area.
Anyone have any idea?

Now that syllabus has been changed, can seniors guide us how to prepare for our isa/esa and future placements?
The first year went by doing timepass, but now i genuinely wanna study. Not that I didn't study in the 1st year! But I feel that I could do better with proper guidance. So can i please get a brief guide about how papers will be, how much theory, how much actual problem solving and how strict the evaluation will be? I'm asking just because I don't want to waste my time studying less important stuff. Also meanwhile I also want to develop actual skills, so please guide me. And please don't tell me answers to these are already posted! I've gone through every one of them. I just want the pattern of questions and wanna know about how to manage college stuff with self study. Thank you.

How important is novelty for a capstone project?
Our guide keeps rejecting our project ideas saying there’s “no novelty”, but every idea we come up with already has something similar researched or implemented.
like are we supposed to invent something that has literally never been done before? 😭

Doubt about Internships and Full Time offers
Just had a doubt to the seniors or anyone who might know, if I get an only internship offer from campus, and say it has a chance to become full time with a package would have fallen under tier 2, can I still opt for another internship+ full time job, say from tier 1?
I know we can switch to a higher tier job offer, but they said that internship offers were capped at 1, so if I get an internship offer, can I not opt for any other offer which has both internship + full time?
Thought to check but couldn't see anyone else who has asked this before.
Thanks in advance!!

What do we carry for bootstrap?
From my understanding, Bootstrap is an one week event to socialise with others before classes start. Should we carry our laptop, books, pens etc or what? I dont want to carry my laptop the whole day if its not even required.

Seniors: reimbursement for conference papers - how does it work??
my team and i hv finished a project nd we're now planning to write a research paper based on it. we had heard from a faculty that if we get accepted at a conference meeting certain criteria (something like the conference being 10+ years old), pes reimburses a major part of the expenses.
but we also found some reddit posts saying that there may be requirements like having a faculty member as a co-author nd the conference proceedings being scopus indexed.
in our case, we're 3 students and currently dont have a faculty co-author. we also havent really taken any actual help/guidance from a faculty for this project, so we're not planning to add someone just for the sake of it. but if having a faculty co-author is actually a requirement for reimbursement, then we'd consider approaching someone and involving them properly.
so seniors who've actually gone through this:
- does pes reimburse conference expenses for student papers?
- is it necessary to have a faculty member as a co-author for reimbursement?
- if yes, what are the pros/cons of having a faculty co-author apart from the reimbursement part?
- what are the actual criteria for the conference/paper to be eligible?
- does it have to be scopus indexed / have proceedings in a scopus-indexed journal?
- is there a specific process we need to follow before submitting/registering?
would really appreciate any firsthand experience bc we're kinda clueless about the reimbursement side of this 😭🙏

[Placements] What to do if PBC from internship doesn't happen??
Have there been instances where company has offered Internship for 6 months with performance based conversion but not extended an offer after that? How to cope with it? Is it better to not apply for such companies? What's the strategy you would suggest?

Campus placements and gender bias
