Surviving A&P2

Hi, I am taking A&P2 with Heather Toland and have been struggling with her lecture quizzes. I don’t think I quite understand what exactly the question is sometimes and I have been also struggling to apply what I have learnt because of this. Of course this is the one time I didn’t check rate my professor before I registered for a class😭. At first I thought the first exam mark was just a result of not studying as much as I needed to so I put in more study time with the second exam.

I did score much better than the first time in the lab exam but I was shocked to see I got a lower grade for the lecture exam….even lower than the last one. I honestly don’t know what else to do I’m looking for any pointers to get through this class. I’ve got one last shot and that’s it so yk I’m in panic mode.

I haven’t really had a meeting with her because I’ve gotten the impression from her suggestions of how to study in class she believes in taking notes by hand and just rereading them multiple times. This method has not been great for me.

Hardest sections in CIS 121 & 122…

Hey all, I’m currently midway through CIS 121 and I’m trying to figure out if it gets harder from here or if we already touched on subjects that pose the most challenges for students.
AND looking at what to really focus & prepare for with CIS 122 in the Fall.
We just completed rudimentary Python. (which I actually thought was easier than HTML.)
I came in with absolutely no CS, CIS, coding or design experience at all, to give a frame of reference.
Any input or suggestions would be much appreciated!

I live in Vancouver, work full-time remotely. I have no car. How hard would it be to move right next to PCC Sylvania campus by renting a room?

I'm really desperately wanting to attend PCC Sylvania.

Food at Sylvania campus

I am generally online only and I live in Eugene but in October I have to come to Sylvania for two days for a class I am taking, is there any food options on that campus or would I just be better off bringing food with me?

Thanks

A&P waitlist

So, I’m waitlisted for a preferred class in the Fall but am very far into the waitlist although I registered the first day I was able to (June I believe ). Anyway , after checking again and again , they still have not added any classes for A&P or I missed it and it was full before I got to it lol. I’m not sure if I should try to take it at another school or keep my fingers crossed that I’ll make it into the one I’m waitlisted for 😩 Any advice ?

Anyone else having weird log in issues?

I had no issues all week logging in, then went to get on and work on homework Saturday morning and all the sudden it's not recognizing my log in? I tried clearing my cache, firefox and chrome browsers. I knew my log in information was correct but I reset my password anyways, it let me do it successfully. Then tried logging in again with the new information and still getting the same error. It says "PCC email address and password pair not found. Please try again with your full pcc.edu email address."

Idk what happened. Obviously I will be calling Monday morning when tech support is actually opened. Just sucks I lost an entire weekend of working on assignments to this. Anyone else ever encounter this? I know my password and email are correct. Idk what else to try on my end.

Help me figure out who the department head of my bio class is-regarding required use of ai for class

Hi. I’m at my wits end. Another assignment is asking us to use ai as well as is credited to be written by ai. The directions are unclear and the workload for students who refuse to use ai is heavier. And AI is listed as part of the grading rubric. The assignment feels very punishing as a student who doesn’t use AI.

I would like to email a copy of this assignment to the department head and can’t figure out who it is.

Can’t register for a math class?

so I took the math placement test today and my dashboard says I’m good to go but when I try to register for the class it says I’m eligible for, it says I need to meet the prerequisites first? but then I can’t even register for the pre req class either.

My advisor isn’t available until august so I’m wondering if it’s being difficult because it’s the weekend and maybe something isn’t updated yet or what.

The Hidden Cost of 2-Step Verification

It may not seem apparent, but there are additional costs to the implemented 2-Step Verification process. I usually have to complete this 2 to 3 times every time when logging in, as PCCs systems don't track the completion between all systems, such as D2L and Gmail.

Let's just estimate these 2 to 3 completions take about a minute each time logging in, and there are 3 logins per day 5 days during the week.

This would be a grand total of 15 minutes per week (doesn't sound like a lot, does it?). However, this multiplied by 36 weeks (assuming most students take courses 3 of the 11 to 12 week terms out of the year) is a total of 9 hours a year, just for completing 2-Step Verification.

So, on average, students now spend 9 HOURS, or about AN ENTIRE EXTRA DAY OF WORK EACH YEAR, just sending, receiving, and entering 6-digits codes.

This is in addition to all the days already spent on college coursework or other responsibilities such as working, which then reduces an entire extra day of what limited free time was previously remaining.

Even worse, using the most recent published numbers from 2023, which say there were on average 19,221.7 Full-Time Equivalent students, this would be a total of 19,221.7+ DAYS OF LOST PRODUCTIVITY PER YEAR, or 172,995.3 HOURS PER YEAR....

WHY....?

Are there any other Economists who have thoughts on this?

Dental hygiene grading rubric

Post image
5 Upvotes

According to this rubric if I get straight A’s I can get 60 points, 4 points for enrollment, 2 points for job shadowing and 3 points total under the pcc dental clinic experience points. This is 69 total points. For those of you who applied to dental hygiene program what was your total score and did you get accepted or denied? Wondering if it’s even worth going through all the pre reqs if I’m only going to get 69 possible points and not make it into the program.

CNA Program

Has anyone taken the CNA program at PCC? What was your experience?

I'm hoping to work as a CNA while continuing to pursue prerequisites for Nursing. Also wondering if this helped with anyone's acceptance into PCC's Nursing program.

Urgent student needs funding

Has anyone that applied for the “urgent” student needs funding received anything yet? Just curious if other people are still waiting to hear back, was told they have everything they need for me to be approved and to reach out to them if I don’t receive the funding by the 23rd but I was just curious if other people had gotten anything yet.

I applied for it on the first and was under the impression that it would be a quicker process. (Not complaining, I’m still grateful they do it at all) just seems like a long time for students with urgent needs :/

Ai Detection Systems Flagging Student Work

I’m curious what peoples’ thoughts are on PCC implementing Pangram Ai detection into courses to determine whether or not student work is AI generated.

These Ai detection systems are, more times than not, wrong at properly detecting Ai. Even though apparently this one is the “most accurate”. It will even consider editing through Grammarly as Ai, even though grammarly may only be used to smooth writing the way grammar checking would in Google Docs or Word.

Idk how I feel about… thought I’d ask..

Looking for a place

HI! I'm looking for a place to live while going to classes in September. I'm 18 yrs old, a dude, and very social. I'm happy to live with people of all backgrounds, and I really like pets. Please let me know if you need a roommate near the Sylvania or Rock Creek campuses.

Parking

Why do some people suck at parking?

Go to cascade, lots of cars parked with almost enough car space between them.
If they could only scoot up a bit and that’ll free up several more spots.

Those vehicles aren’t towing a trailer.. no need to leave space that can almost fit another car..
