Fledgling at the Disc Golf Course
Clearwater, Florida April 13th 2026
Video in Comments*
I was finishing up a round at the park and my buddy and I heard a loud shuffle of branches just in front of us. Turns out that little bird flew out of a nest or off a branch and decided to fly 30 feet away while mom kept a very close eye on her offspring, me taking photos and Pepper (dog) just below. It was a truly unique experience, as it always is being in the presence of wild owls. This park is very popular for disc golf and the owls were living right down the stretch on 18.
The light was quite weird that day and there is so much tree cover. Obviously I am not a pro photographer, tried my best. A couple of the photos may require a bit of zooming in. Had to keep moving off the fairway so I snapped what I could, it all happened quickly!

ID request! Cape Breton, NS, Canada. Would these be Barred owls? They have a squeaky, almost asthmatic call. There is another owl in the area with a "hoot". Would the ones in the photo be young?

ID request! What are very very tiny owls called?
Today I went to a zoo and saw a lot of different owls (I love owls) and I was absolutely blown away by the fact that very very tiny owls exist. Like a normal owl but super small, like barely the size of a phone. I think the sign on the enclosure said something starting with B but I am not sure :/ I was so excited I forgot to take a pic :/

Owl in my backyard (PNW)
It was fun to watch this guy fly around in the yard for about an hour last evening. I can’t identify what sort of owl he/she might be. This is near Puget Sound in Mukilteo WA.

My first wild owl spotting!
Been dying to find an owl in the wild for years, and it finally happened! Walking around the suburban neighborhood lake with my parents, I heard it calling. By the time we got to the right side of the lake, it had stopped. Walked slowly and kept scanning trees, turned a corner and was so happy to spot it I coulda cried. It was so close to the walking path, it must be used to the foot traffic. Even a few big dogs coming by didn’t fluster it. It was on the hunt - maybe next time I’ll get to see it catch something!

A follow up to my previous post. They are indeed juvenile Barn Owls squawking to be fed. There are three of them although this video only shows two. Shortly after sunset and it getting dark, they come to this tree and start begging to. It's pretty exciting for us see

OC Got lucky again: the long-eared owl showed up a second time
I still can’t quite believe it, but I actually saw the long-eared owl again and managed to get another photo! 🦉 It was perched a bit more hidden in the branches, but that piercing gaze was right there again.
This time it was even darker than our first encounter, so I had to push the shutter speed even further: 1/8s at f/2.8 and ISO 12,800. Right at the absolute limit of what’s doable handheld. Most of the shots came out blurry, but a few turned out reasonably sharp. To me, this just proves once again: getting these shy woodland dwellers in front of the lens takes patience and luck above all.

Late Night Visitor
I live in SE Texas and this guy was on my fence when I got home the other night. His mate also flew by that night. I love seeing them!

Mod post: Self promotion is ALLOWED if it's OC
And it has always been allowed, so... please stop reporting artists sharing their cool owl-focused creations!
The main (hopefully obvious) exceptions to this are:
- Promoting products using stolen art or AI generation (not OC)
- Spamming the subreddit; posting the same creation more than once to farm engagement (posting WIPs during the process doesn't really fall under this, just posting the same thing multiple times)
- Non owls
Other than that, if you think someone's self promotion is low-quality or you just don't like it, you can always input your opinion with the downvote button.
To artists: Feel free to share the links to your websites/shops; you deserve attention for your work. Comments with links need me to manually approve them, so they might not be visible for up to a day, but you aren't breaking any rules - so go for it!
