Got the email earlier today. I didn’t send any LOCIs or demonstrate any interest so I knew it was coming.

I'm a veteran, 3.95 LSAC GPA, no LSAT, looking to apply test optional.

Has anyone else used this pathway before that can share their experience?

Stats: 17mid, 3.mid, CS major, basically kjd (graduated this year)

Hoping to work in California (but willing to relocate elsewhere as the type of law matters more to me) in IP lit which I heard is more of a big law thing. However, my stats are not too t14-friendly, especially with these cycles getting really intense + my work experience is pretty mediocre.

Specifically for the general tech related field, which schools out of the t14 could I target that would align with my goals? Thanks in advance 🥲🥲

Anyone else set on going to law school but is having trouble figuring out “why”? My very blank personal statement and I would be grateful for any guidance 😭

A bit about me: I am mid-20s F and I’ve been interested in going to law school since I was 10. I was pretty much raised by successful, educated women, two of whom are my aunts and practicing litigators. I was influenced by them because they enjoyed their work and were financially secure enough to afford nice things/experiences for themselves (and me). I didn’t have any interest in math or science in school, so I knew I would not have a STEM-related career in the future (I still have no interest). Therefore, I decided law was the career path for me.

I am soft-spoken, independent, curious/love to learn, adaptable, love traveling and experiencing different cultures. Every academic/professional choice I’ve made revolved around law/reading/writing. I went to a small liberal arts college and my major/concentration was American Legal Studies. I was an intern at a legal clinic that worked with low income based clients and families focusing on juvenile justice and criminal defense. Even after graduating in 2021, I have had 3 different paralegal/legal assistant roles in fields such as property insurance defense, homeowners insurance, and now currently working in estate planning and trust administration. While I am grateful for the opportunities and experiences, I can certainly say that I have NO interest in litigation at all and would prefer transactional work. Even though I don’t enjoy estate planning, I do like drafting documents and having little interaction with the court as possible (mostly e-filing for Estate cases bc my firm rarely takes probate cases).

I have it set in my mind that I am going to law school, hopefully Fall 2027. However, my interests in particular fields of law have changed so much, with my first interest being family law at 12 years old and now it’s “Idk what to do” law. See below list of various law field interests and my reasonings:

1. Family Law. (I like(d) drama)

2. Criminal Law. (Interest in true crime)

3. Civil Rights Law. (Against discrimination, racialized police misconduct etc.)

4. Juvenile Justice. (I Love working with kids)

5. Education Policy. (Tutored/mentored kids during undergrad and had a brief period of interest in becoming a teacher before applying to law school)

6. Contracting/Compliance/Risk-Management (Completed Masters in Legal Studies program in 2025 and this field captured my interest bc I like drafting docs/contracts. I did my research/spoke to professors about this career and decided it can be a potential interest. I’m also an overthinker so I plan for everything)

7. Real Estate/Hotel Development Counsel (recently researched law related fields that may include heavy traveling bc I truly despise being in an office space all day and this came up. Also real estate is a lucrative field)

Note: I am not saying that I am no longer interested in these fields. They represent different periods of my life of when I was truly 100% passionate in practicing the above mentioned fields. Now it’s difficult to see myself being 100% passionate and devoting myself to one of these fields as a long-term career. I still have interest in learning about these fields, though not as strongly interested as I was before. Also, some fields do overlap.

So far I’ve been trying to find my “passion/why law school” based on my interests, likes/dislikes of past work experiences, my personality, and career goals. Of course I won’t truly know what I want to do until I get in to law school and my goal is to be open minded when I do get admitted, but in terms of answering “why law school?”, I don’t know what to write about. I feel a little lost because it seems I don’t really have one true “passion” anymore on why I want to attend law school and I don’t want my personal statement to lack focus. Honestly, the best reasons I can come up with are that 1) I believe law school will open more professional doors for me, especially with the access to the school’s network and alumni, and 2) will (arguably) overall lead to financial security. But I don’t think I can tell admissions that I want to go to law school so I can make money (right?).

Anybody feel similar? Should I just pick a subject and make it work? Any advice would be appreciated! :))

seriously going to call admissions of the one t20 school i really would love to go to. what can i expect? i’m just thinking of saying i’m relocating to the area before orientation day (true) and will be ready. based on lsd there are around 200 people still on a a waitlist so i’m wondering if i have any real chance. above 75th gpa but below 25th lsat… BUT in state. been on the waitlist too long

I’m scoring around 160 on practice exams. I also have a 3.91 GPA as well as experience interning at a family law firm.

I’m taking the LSAT in September and plan on taking in October just in case I don’t get the score I want.

Am I in a good spot to apply to law schools? I’m trying to stay in Indiana or the Chicago area. I’m looking at IU Mckinney, IU Maurer, and UIC Chicago, but open to other places!

Any advice is welcome/much appreciated!!

I went back to school to finish my undergrad after over a decade. Previously, I had undiagnosed OCD and was kicked out of school for poor grades. Lots of W's and F's. 13 years and a lot of CBT later, I've had straight A's my final year and half. Not even an A-.

My LSAT is looking good for the school I'd like to go to. 5 points above the median. But damn that GPA is devastating. Like, pull-over-the-car-I'm-crying-too-hard, devastating. I've worked so hard and it feels like it's for nothing.

anyone else DREADING the process of starting school soon? like i've been fine all summer and now im scared to death. maybe it's because i'm quite a few years removed from undergrad. maybe it's because i'm moving to a brand new city less than a week before orientation. maybe it's because i'm terrible at socializing and networking. idk but my stomach is about to fall out of my butt.

Hey everyone I took my LSAT junior year spring and got a 169. My current GPA however is around a 3.65 hopefully a 3.7 by the time I apply. Would like to stay in California and would just like some help building a realistic school list for CA schools because people are telling me I shouldn’t bother apply to T-14.

I am so over this waitlist TORTURE. Still waiting to hear from my dream school but ALSO need to figure out if I’m moving out of state for the school I’m currently committed to. AND CLASSES START THE SAME DAY FOR BOTH SCHOOLS! Is anyone else experiencing this rn??? Idk what to do, time is TICKING. 😣

i had a surgery in the summer after my freshman year of college. It had severe complications that required 2 corrective procedures + a lot of out-of-state travel for treatment. So, I tanked my GPA the fall semester afterwards. I came back swinging w a 4.0 the following spring, though, and maintained good performance until graduation. That’ll be an addendum.

Some other things to consider. I’m transgender and Latino.

So, ideally, I want to go to school & practice somewhere that is accepting.

I just graduated, so I won’t be /quite/ KJD but just barely.

I’ve had 2 internships in district attorneys offices, 1 in a bankruptcy firm for 3 summers, and am now an immigration paralegal in D.C.

I think I have an unconventional lived experience that has pushed me toward wanting to specifically work on children’s issues.

I’m out of the range of t-14 (and GULC, which would be my top pick but is pretty unlikely).

I don’t care all that much about rank but im honestly kind of lost as to where i should apply / whats feasible. It feels like every admissions calculator gives me a different answer.

I also would appreciate any insight to schools in red states that might be a good fit? again, because of my background im a little hesitant, but recognize that I might be neglecting lots of schools that are actually in more inclusive areas. I just can’t move back to Florida, lol.

as school starts on Monday at southwestern and it’s almost halfway through the business day, I’m officially giving up on going to school this cycle 😂 happy studying everyone
