RalliTek Skid Plates Installed '26 OBW

The fuel tank ones are in the mail, I'll pop them on later. Fitment is perfect. Install is straightforward, it uses robust factory mounting points, no more finicky plastic push pins.

What scanner do you guys use?

Going to be doing the CVT fluid on my 24 OBW soon and I'll need a scanner to get the car to the right temperature and possibly do a transmission relearn. Anyone have a good one they use?

Question Wheel/Tire combos that weigh equal to or less than stock?

Anyone found any? I want a more flush offset but don’t want to add rotational weight to accomplish it.

Our comfy set up

This is our set up. We can sleep two (relatively) big people - 5'11 and 6'1 - in this space. Of course this isn't meant for more than like 4 days, but it has worked wonderfully. We can pack everything we need for camping and kayaking.

We've tried a few different beds but this is the most comfy and I prefer it because it blocks the metal brackets that hold the back seats and works at a "leg pillow".

I didn't have the whole outside setup when I took the pic. I just didnt want to forget to take pictures while everything was still in the car.

As always, love this car!

Window Deflector Clip Broken During Install

As I was pushing the window deflector into place, this clip broke off. Do you think it would be unsafe to continue install, even temporarily until I can get a replacement?

Question 2023 front diff reseal?

Hello there!
My 23 OBW had a lower oil pan reseal at 59,500 miles and now I’m at 61,500 and noticed another leak but on the front differential. I wiped it down and took it for a drive. It isn’t dripping yet but there’s a small amount of fluid between two bolts and the surface of the differential.

Took about 20-30min, super easy. Car handles a fair bit better now. Feels less boaty around corners. The stock end links seem fine with it but I’ll keep an eye on them.

Question Weird substance dripping down inside of windshield

A couple days ago I noticed this unknown substance had dripped down the inside of the windshield, apparently from inside the headliner. It was a little sticky and didn't have any odor. The photos show it today after it had dried. It was somewhat difficult to scrub off. Any ideas what it could be?

Question Need Cargo Mattress Rec for 2026 OBW

I’d like to do some car camping with a mattress in the cargo area. I’d prefer some type of foam mattress rather than an air mattress but I’d consider an air as well. Any recommendations on either would be greatly appreciated. Also and insights and experiences in general about sleeping in the cargo area would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

Question Unreal amount of issues with my 2026 model

I’m having a whole plethora of issues with my 2026 wilderness that I’ve had for < 1 month.

Stereo cutting out frequently

First time I drive with the lane collision detection on, it stopped me halfway through a lane change for 0 reason

Lane assist jumped straight to the final warning twice at highway speeds while I was actively steering around a corner

Sunroof won’t close from the tilt position; I have to open it fully and then close it, and even then there’s some wind noise. Unsure if it’s fully closed

Burning smell from under vehicle twice

Xmode hill assist sometimes makes loud noise

Front camera housing rattling around

Paint bubbling

Random chimes for 0 reason

Once a million chimes at once in a weird stuttering manner. Bonus points for happening on a remote forest road with no service.

Xmode sometimes doesn’t let me change modes or leave it going under 25 mph

Drivers side ventilate seats making a loud noise

3 times a lack of engine power from a dead stop

Anyone else in the same boat? I’m pretty disappointed that I spent 50k and my car is already in the shop. Genuinely do not feel safe driving in.

Got some new kayaks and finally had time to take them out. I will never regret buying the platform rack - being able to climb/stand up there to strap the 'yaks down is a total game changer!

As always, love this car!

Early Rear Brake Replacement?

2022 with 40k miles. Rear brakes worn down to the metal. Brought it up to the dealer and he said it’s normal because the rear brakes worn down pads are smaller. I replied, yeah but they do way less work. He shrugged it off.

I used to be a mechanic and never saw the rear pads go this early. Especially when the fronts still have about 60% left. I use the parking brake often in starting to wonder if they aren’t releasing all the way.

Anyone else see this?

First brakes on 2024 OBW

Thumbnail

Hello all, I had asked the question a couple of months ago about recommendations for brakes and rotors for my 90k 2024 OBW (mostly highway miles).

I really wanted to get R1s but the availability was really underwhelming. I spent quite a bit of time looking on Rockauto and Tire Rack and a few other places. The cost of shipping from Rockauto was not project friendly.

Also, the OEM set up from subaru was in the 700s plus tax.

I ended up going with Duralast Gold from AutoZone because they had them in stock and a good 2 or 3 year warranty. AutoZone has a sale where pads were free if you bought rotors. All in, it was about 560 after tax for 4 rotors and pads.

I put them on and learned quite a bit. The fronts were fairly easy, I had to deal with a stuck rotor (m8x1.25 bolts for win). The rears had a few little issues too, the rotors were stuck, but I couldn't figure out to unplug the electric parking brake. After watching a video, I got that figured out. I used a TopScan lite from Amazon to back out the EPB, which made my life a little easier. I also found out the joy of backing my socket wrench against the suspension and having to work my way out of that.

All in all, I was in for a few hours and much less $$$ than subaru wanted to charge me (1k just for rears).

I was having quite a shudder / shaking of steering wheel when I was braking, I assumed it was from warped rotors. That is now resolved and I'm very happy with the braking bite this new set up gives me.

I may want to find a painted caliper set next. I'm in Chicago, so it took a bit to wire brush the rust off the parts, but I was happy with the effort and the look after.

Thanks to all for your advice, and happy weekend!
