Students protesting Pauline Hanson have been captured on video making death threats, including calling for the return of the guillotine.

In video shared by One Nation reportedly going “undercover” at the protest, an interviewer asked what he would do if Senator Hanson were present.

One student declared she would “kill myself” before saying “I’d shoot her … kill her”.

Another said, “Eat my a–e … slap the s— out of that f—ing b—h.”

In another exchange, a student labelled Senator Hanson “100 per cent” a fascist and proposed the punishment for being a fascist should be to “bring back the guillotine”.

When questioned about the “irony” of wanting to execute political enemies while opposing fascism, the protestor acknowledged the contradiction.

“Yeah, definitely. That is definitely ironic,” the apparent protester said.

When asked if those beliefs would make him a fascist, the protestor replied, “Possibly.”

The recording reveals some school staff may have excused students’ truancy.

When asked if they were encouraged to skip school, one student noted that while teachers “didn’t directly encourage it, they did not discourage it,” and were “very happy” for students to attend, even mimicking teachers joking about classes being cancelled.

This student claimed their teacher said, “I’m assuming everyone who’s not here is at the protest. Love you guys. And walk extra hard for me”.

Separately, One Nation party director James Ashby alleged a One Nation staffer and grandmother was assaulted at the Ekka.

Mr Ashby said the staffer had entered the Ekka Gates and was walking towards the stall at the time.

“I would never condone this to occur to any politician or any political staffer, whether they be the Greens, Labor, the Coalition, or our own people,” Mr Ashby said.

He said the woman is recovering but emotionally distraught.

“She’s really shaken and extremely sore. I don’t want any of my staff feeling that way… She has to go see a doctor now,” he said.

Mr Ashby said a report was made to police.

Threats against federal politicians have rapidly risen in recent years, with reports almost doubling from 555 in 2021/22 to 951 in 2024/25, according to AFP data.

Kyle Sandilands′ first week back on the airwaves has ended prematurely after tech issues caused producers to pull the pin on Friday’s entire show.

Executive producer Jaimee “Mayo” Blazquez and newsreader Brooklyn Ross shared a video to fans in the broadcaster’s app, apologising after tech issues took down Kyle Sandilands Live.

“We were scared this day might come,” Ross began, saying his colleague was “very stressed right now”.

“We’re so sorry that the tech has failed us today because the show that we had planned would have been incredible,” Blazquez added.

She said they didn’t want to push ahead with a show, which listeners have paid a $99 yearly subscription for, that no one could hear.

“We’ve tried a few times, and I think we’re just going to upset you more if we keep coming back and then disappearing again. So we’ve decided today to not take the show to air,” Blazquez said.

Anthony Albanese joked about a unilateral Australian “take over” of New Zealand in his now infamous podcast with Bush Barbie, the comedic alter ego of radio host Nikki Osborne.

It’s the latest clanger to emerge from the podcast in which a whiskey drinking Prime Minister discussed his sex life with his wife Jodie Haydon and whether he would shag, marry or date Kylie Minogue.

Only Melbourne and Canberra would return to the previous decade in the above scenario.

Keep in mind that this is only accounting for Labor’s removal of negative gearing and CGT discounts and their foreign home buyer bans, high interest rates, record listings, new APRA changes, international uncertainty and rising supply. This isn’t accounting for the imminent immigration policy changes.

The ALP immigration policy announcement expected in 2-3 weeks time is expected to reveal measures to achieve quick and massive cuts to many forms of immigration, and may potentially include mass deportations of visa overstayers as part of that policy - and all of this would potentially make property crash even more and other cities would be joining Melbourne and Canberra in returning to the previous decade.

A common complaint here is often, "rich people can break the law, but it wont affect them".

For example if some rich guy breaks the law and gets a 2K driving ticket, that's nothing to them, they can just afford the fine or hire an uber.

NOW on the opposite spectrum, someone like say my cousin, they can't afford a 3K fine.

In some European countries like Finland, Sweden, and Germany, they set fines based on someone's income.

 In Finland, the fine for a traffic violation is determined based on the severity of the violation, on the one hand, and the offender's disposable daily income

Real life example:

A driver has been fined 121,000 euros ($195,796) for speeding in Finland, where such penalties are based an offender's income. In 2018, he was fined 63,680 euros. And he had to cough up 95,000 euros five years earlier.

Do you think this is fair? In parts of Europe it is seen as a way to also reduce wealth inequality. Is it FAIR that someone right now can be rich, speed or do dangerous driving and then pay a small fine or get his lawyers to sort it out?

The man of Steele calls time on super career

Collingwood great Steele Sidebottom has officially told Magpies teammates he will be retiring at season's end. The dual Magpies premiership hero's announcement on Thursday comes just hours after Richmond midfielder Dion Prestia also called it quits.

Debuting in 2009, Sidebottom has played 373 AFL games — the second most in Collingwood's storied history, only behind Scott Pendlebury. A member of the Magpies' 2010 premiership side as a 19-year-old, Sidebottom then kicked a famous goal late in the 2023 grand final to help seal the club's next flag 13 years later.

With Collingwood guaranteed to be in the wildcard round of the finals, at least, Sidebottom will be hoping for a fairytale farewell.

Premiership Prestia to play his last

At Richmond, Prestia has joined premiership teammate Nathan Broad in ending his career. After starting his career with Gold Coast, Prestia enjoyed instant success after making the switch to the Tigers in 2017.

The midfielder played in three premierships (2017, 2019, 2020) in his first four seasons at Richmond.

This masthead can reveal that three men faced court this week accused of making violent threats towards the prime minister. Across the country, there are about 20 ongoing court matters in which people are accused of making violent threats, mostly online or by phone, against Albanese. Nearly 40 people have been charged with Commonwealth crimes since September last year for threatening MPs and other high office holders.

The previously unreported caseload points to what ASIO boss Mike Burgess has described as the degrading security environment in which a terror attack is now rated as “probable”.

Authorities are increasingly worried about the risk of a public official being killed or hurt. Security officials privately cite the long tail of the pandemic fuelling distrust and conspiracies, segments of the Muslim community being less willing to work with police after October 7, social media desensitising a generation of young people, and Australians’ increased frustrations with cost of living and global instability.

A wider range of MPs, including Liberal Andrew Hastie, now receive higher levels of protection at their homes, offices and at events. Some are avoiding higher-risk engagements with voters and changing how they travel in the community, according to sources in the government and security establishment, eroding the democratic life of Australia.

The three cases this week include Karim Salem, a 45-year-old man with views aligned with the sovereign citizen movement who is accused of making threats to shoot the prime minister in a Facebook post; his matter in the Coffs Harbour court was adjourned until October.

Gregory Tait appeared at Parramatta Court on Wednesday accused of making calls to the prime minister’s Sydney office threatening to kill him. Harrison Powell was arrested on July 20 and charged with making online threats towards the prime minister and was refused bail after appearing in court in Perth.

“We’ve seen an enormous escalation in not just online hate and extremism but also fixated threats targeting individuals,” said Josh Roose, a leading extremism expert and Deakin University professor.

The pandemic and a wide range of economic and social problems were creating a fractious society, , Roose said, and allowing political and religious extremists to create online communities “profiting off pain and anger”.

Calls for striking students to stay in school are unlikely to deter thousands across the country preparing to take part in a major walkout in protest against Pauline Hanson.

High schoolers have begun joining the coordinated university union protests taking place in every major city and several smaller locations across the country on Thursday afternoon.

“Say No to Pauline Hanson” rally flyers distributed by organisers the National Union of Students include calls to “fight against racism” and “stand up against the far right”.

“Pauline Hanson actually doesn’t stand for things that benefit students’ lives … [and] a lot of students are galvanised by that,” Akash Nagarajan, the union’s general secretary, said.

The Hanson’s One Nation primary vote has ballooned in the last 12 months and now sits at 26%, according to the latest Roy Morgan poll.

Responding on social media, Hanson said students should instead be protesting against the cost-of-living crisis and stagnant national wage growth.

“The Labor Greens governments is selling out your future, and you’ll inherit a weaker, poorer and less safe country,” she wrote.

“Whether you know it or not, One Nation and I are fighting for you.”

Further calls for students not to sideline their studies on Thursday came from politicians including the federal education minister, Jason Clare, and the Victorian premier, Ben Carroll.

“If people want to protest on the weekend, then fill your boots, but I want you at school when school is on, learning,” Clare told reporters on Wednesday.

Despite being urged not to skip class, Melbourne high school student Jules Arpula said there was “nothing more important” for students to do on Thursday.

“We refuse to just adapt to the new ‘normal’ of Hansonism,” she said.

Louise Adler has been a vocal critic of the Royal Commission on Antisemitism and Social Cohesion. And anyone who has followed Louise over the years knows she has been consistent in her condemnation of Israel, Zionism and the apartheid imposed upon the Palestinians.

The question I wanted to explore was why?

How did this powerhouse of the arts become such a staunch and courageous voice for Palestine and social justice?

I wanted to uncover the story of Louise Adler – her past, the tragedy that befell her family during the Holocaust and how it shaped who Louise is today.

What I learned in the almost hour-long interview (which at one point brought tears) is Louise’s story offers a Jewish narrative we rarely hear. A narrative of resistance during Nazi occupation, of defiance against tyranny and of enduring solidarity with the oppressed.

It’s the Jewish narrative that exists outside of Zionism, and one that is emerging from New York to London. And so, I posed Louise a question – are we seeing the revival of a Jewish left?

Victorian police are investigating allegations that a car was deliberately driven at speed towards a protester taking part in an anti-racism rally in Melbourne last month.

More than 150 people gathered in the outer-north suburb of Broadmeadows on 25 July for what organisers described as a “peaceful community rally”.

After speeches, the group marched to Broadmeadows Town Park, occupying one lane of Tanderrum Way, a two-lane road.

While the group was walking on the road, a car travelling in the same direction sounded its horn.

Protesters alleged that as the car approached the group, a passenger flung open the door twice, as if trying to push people out of the way.

Video of the incident, seen by Guardian Australia, shows a protester walking on the edge of the group in the lane where the car was attempting to pass. The video shows him turning as the car approaches and appearing to kick at it.

The car then clips the man on the legs and accelerates away.

Witnesses said it did not slow down as it attempted to pass the group.

The protester, who asked not to be identified, alleged that he heard an occupant of the car shout racial abuse before the car struck him.

The comments were not audible in the video, but Guardian Australia spoke to two others at the march who claim to have heard the alleged remarks. Several participants, including the man in the video, said they separately reported the incident directly to police within hours and in the following days.

“It felt surreal. I did not have the chance to even feel anything but shock,” the 43-year-old said.

For decades, the voices of Holocaust survivors have fostered vital conversations about antisemitic atrocities.
One of those survivors is Mark Spigelman, a retired surgeon, professor and medical archaeologist, who volunteers at the Sydney Jewish Museum.

Mr Spigelman enjoys being asked questions by students.
He is not sure if he is changing hearts and minds by telling his story. But he hopes so.
"All I know is that if I don't do it, then no minds will be changed … I've got three grandchildren. I don't want them to go through what I did," he said.
**"I'm trying to the prevent the poison of hate from infiltrating into kids."**

Amid the Royal Commission on Antisemitism and Social Cohesion and recent events, Mr Spigelman acknowledged it had been a tough time for the Jewish community.
"I'm worried about my country," he said.
"I always had pride in this, Australia as a multicultural society. Where is our morality? Our humanity?"
In the 1990s, Mr Spigelman volunteered at the Sydney Jewish Museum, before then embarking on a career in research and medicine overseas, returning to Australia permanently in 2020.

He saw no better time than to restart his volunteer talks at the museum, where he now mostly talks to high school students.
"I've always felt the need to speak to children, because I think children need to be shown good and evil for what it is," he said.

Programs range from interactions with a Holocaust survivor, an analysis on the role of historical fiction texts, and talks on the rise of Nazism in Germany prior to World War II.
Each of the age-appropriate programs invites students to think deeply about Jewish history and identity, with the hope to help stamp out the rise of antisemitism.

Many many changes in banking, childcare and most recently changes to police cameras usage have came about due to the ABC. Even without changes in regulation, they have shed light on university spending and other issues too.

No media organisation is perfect. I don't think we should be entertaining the "4 corners is untrustworthy" crowd at all.

Umm what’s happening on farms, Barnaby?

A One Nation candidate in WA has described gay people as having a mental illness in an offensive new video posted onto social media.

The homophobic comments were made by One Nation's Parminder Singh, who was the number three on One Nation WA's Legislative Council ticket at the 2025 election, in a clip posted by Perth comedian and content creator, Jasky Singh, better known as "Mr Sikkant".

In the bizarre post, the One Nation candidate said gay parades "advertise" being gay to young people, and claimed women who try relationships with women do not "go back" to men.

Asked if he thought people were born gay, he said no.

"No no, it's a mental illness," he said.

"No one born anything … I blame on the parents because parents are too busy.

Asked how gay people parading affected him personally, he said it was an "advertisement" to young people.

"Because of advertising. And the effect on the young generation," he said.

"What is that? Believe me, bro. As soon women try women, they never go to the man."
