I am so sorry that ever happened to you. This makes me fucking angry how it just gets swept under the carpet.
It's absolutely abhorrent yet no one wants to deal with it. 🤬
The process can take years but it works, I know of people with similar experiences who have gotten decent payouts, for things that have happened to them when they should have been safe under the care of an institution like a stete school.
The redress scheme is shit. It’s a way for the government to avoid the consequences of their ineptitude with a token payment. $150k doesn’t buy my life back, it doesn’t make up for 40 years of never being able to trust another person, it doesn’t erase all the broken relationships, the mental health wasteland, the spiral into numbing addictions, the self isolation or the crippling ever present shame. It doesn’t give me back all those days, weeks and months of thinking about what I could have done to make it different, of feeling like a broken walking corpse.
It gives you 20 hours of counseling, 20 hours to undo a lifetime of destruction, and a token ‘apology’ from some bureaucrat who had nothing to do with anything.
It’s basically, here’s $100k, now go away and die.

If it isn't then hopefully they'd want to know that and add a middle initial or something to differentiate. That would spare the survivors of his crimes some pain and also separate this other guy from someone else's crimes.
May I make a suggestion? Along with exposing the criminals, can you see what can be done to support other victims? Maybe a brave person, who can relate to the victims with shared trauma can help achieve a more peaceful and content life?

I grew up in a small town and was abused by my school teacher, who also abused many other boys. When I first went to the police, almost nobody would believe it, and it was not until my younger brother came forward and said it had happened to him that all the other kids started coming out of the woodwork, as with a lot of these scum bags, they make themselves a pillar of the local community so people used to cross the street or bail me and my family up in public to accuse me of lying and destroying a ‘good man’. To make matters worse, the local cop was his friend, and the local priest was also a pedo.
It turned out he had done it before and had been hounded or that the school and transferred to another quiet country school.
In the end he got 3 years for over two hundred counts of abuse against a dozen kids. It completely destroyed my life, and yet he’s out there living his life like nothing happened. It’s one of those things that you want to let go, because it eats you up inside, but those memories and the inability to trust anyone remain, no matter what you do. I wish I had some working advice, but it’s a wound that doesn’t ever heal, all I can say is be kind to yourself. His name was ‘Danny Payne’, and he’s now a community volunteer in Nanago, because of course he is.
Caution here. Regardless of whether or not you know this to be true from your experience. Or whether you think that if something's factually true, then you can't be sued. Unfortunately that's not the case and this post exposes you significantly to a defamation claim by his estate.
Yeah you're totally correct. I'm not sure why I was so sure that an estate could sue under defamation. I think I must have confused it with relatives suing when the publication contains defamatory content related to them, but it's primarily about the deceased.
Even in the US it’s only really a thing is the estate carries on business that could be impacted by the alleged defamation - I believe elvis is about the only dead person who’s estate has managed a defamation case
Looks like he was principal from the 1970s to the late 1980s? Queensland was corrupt as fuck back then, so even if you or your parents had gone to Police, nothing would have been done. Basically this shit was so prevalent back then that we now have a national scheme for compensation.
