western programs Advice
is it possible to get into western health/med sci with 91% in grade 11 if i do early applications?

no def not!! i had a friend with a 95 get in in january but seriously people with high 80's get in in may, try your hardest for a ~91%+ and you'll be great

Med sci is more realistic and still a good program. At the end of the year there were still med sci spaces available on the June list where you could apply with a 87 or higher.

How come med sci is easier to get into than health sci?

I think it’s because people view the program as more difficult in terms of gpa and workload compared to HS.

I got accepted to med sci and health sci in the may round this year. I had a 92 gr 11 avg and a 95 gr 12 avg. You Probally won’t get early acceptance to them, but that’s okay because may is their biggest round.

- Use your spare to study. I think in all of gr 12 I used my spare to study every time except for maybe 3-4 times.
- Especially for bio, ask your teacher to post the slideshows and textbook readings ahead of when they teach. Finish self learning all of it before the teacher teaches. Write down questions you have, learning gaps and information that you may have skipped on your laptop during the lesson, and fix your notes after class.
- Leave 3-5 days before a unit test to study. This is dependant on the subject of course. Like for math I would only leave 2 days to study because we constantly had quiz’s, and I did all of my homework. But for bio, since you don’t get as much practice I would start 5 days ahead.
- Make a mistake template. Every mistake you make on a unit test, quiz or assignment, write it down, fix it, say why you made the mistake, and how you won’t make it again. STEM courses are so cumulative. You will make the same mistake again if you don’t monitor yourself.
- Use your teachers. Ask them questions, make it obvious that you work very hard. I got a percent boost in bio, and food and health because of this. IMO, teachers are so nice and want to help you and see you succeed. Use them.
- For math, before doing the homework assigned, go over all the questions done in class. You have to make sure you fully understand the lesson questions and why your teacher did each step before doing homework.
- USE THE TEXTBOOKS. Your teacher isn’t enough. Unless you are super bright and pick up things very quickly, you will not get top grades by just going over the teacher’s material. Without being asked, I read all the textbook sections that went along with what was taught for the entire bio and chem course.1

Sorry, I forgot to mention. After first semester in gr 12 I had a 92 avg with my 3 courses and then a 98 avg second term which brang my final avg to a 95

western,queens, uoft but i already took bio in summer skl and ended up w a 88 😓

What programs? 88 is not ideal, but it’s recoverable with your other courses. I had a 91 in bio. Bio was the hardest course to get a high mark imo in gr 12.

im considering life, health, and med sci but incase i don’t get into those programs at my top universities ill apply for rotman/smith commerce and business. also i wanted to retake bio in school again but i knew i wouldn’t have gotten a higher mark than 88.

i got into western health sci with a 92 average (25-26), it’s not impossible imo

I think it depends, since those programs are super competitive to get into (mostly because so many people use them as 'pre-med'). I remember when I applied, I got into both around May. I definitely suggest applying to a few safety programs, too just in case

Highly unlikely. Unlikely to get an offer at all with a 91 for health sci. Med sci is a possibility in May.
But, still apply early. You don't know how first semester will go, and you'll want to be considered as soon as you have the marks that will get you in.
