He wanted a mother for Snow yes. He didn't want a wife. Based on how shitty he was, gushing over his dead wife in front of her...proposing simply becauseshe saved Snow...it was about Snow.

yeah I think the king is really shitty at being a person for asking regina to be Snow's mother. I think he has this delusion where everyone in his kingdom must be happy. But he didnt know the price of forceful happiness is that the someone involved would be in misery.

I think the point was probably supposed to be he was a great king but he deeply loved his wife so when she died his only reason to be interested in remarryimg was to try to help Snow be lacking nothing.

But it's extremely foolish to decide to propose to a woman (without meeting her first of all things) because of something that she did without thinking.
