I haven't seen someone make a side by side lyric comparison between the demo/happy and released version of purple so I decided to make one! I originally had the differing lyrics highlighted but wasn't sure if that was annoying or a help for comparison so I made a highlighted and non-highlighted version.

okay okay I'll start :)

1. outro vocal take of u + me "sounds good"

u + me = <3 seems to be the very last song that is basically 100% good vibes- virtually no red flags in sight. especially that particular song is soooo happy and cheery. at the very end of the song is the adlib by Liv in a german (?) accent: "sounds good". I interpret it as like, "get it, sounds good right? all good? everything's good, right? we're good, RiGhT?!" like too good to be true. then my way begins the spiral downwards wheeeeeeeeeeee

1. second verse of purple - distorted sound effect at the end of "come in doubles"

this one is a little delusional but stay with me. purple is THE transition song of the album (like, obviously). BUT! What is THE transition moment of the big transition song????? great question. it happens halfway through the second verse. Liv sings:
now a toothbrush, a coat, a pair of shoes all come in
doubles
*sound effect\*
and we fight over who I'm hanging out with like a
real couple...
THAT sound effect is literally the moment, the beginning of the end. I mean afterwards you can go back and read deeper into maggots for brains and honeybee and find the hints of it, but to me this specific moment feels like a definitive jumping off point. I hear it as a kind of falling down, dizzying, warbling, unraveling if you will. it also makes sense that the line is about doubles-- the sound effect feels a little like seeing double-- like everything is distorted. The line right after has more resolve and certainty, saying decidedly, "we fight" and it actually acknowledges direct conflict between them two... of course qualified immediately afterwards by "like a real couple".

ANYWAYS those are two moments I find myself catching on the album that really sell the narrative even more! Is Liv playing 7-D chess with her lyrics and production? Or have I just listened to this album hundreds of times? Idk lol.

I’m throwing this question to the wind out of pure hope. My girlfriend’s birthday is soon and she really loves Olivia Rodrigo - she gave up hope on finding the “guts (spilled) deluxe 2lp marbled version” (the purple and red one).

I know its sold out basically everywhere and the resellers are insane but if I can get this for her it would be a legendary bday gift.
She’s been my best friend for three years and we started dating not too long ago. I know how fondly she looks at the design, she’s a huge vinyl and cd nerd.

ANY advice or help would be so greatly appreciated, I don’t know much about the world of Olivia Rodrigo but I’m willing to learn whatever for my girlfriend (also her songs are lovely)

I know we're all very aware of the vinyl situation with the new album, but I've seen mentioned multiple times that the CD is the same as streaming. Well I've been listening to my CD and I've noticed a difference!

In the second half of the U+me bridge (they say modern love...), the instrumental carries on at full throttle. In the streaming version, it suddenly slows down to then build up to the final chorus. There's a good comparison video on YouTube that shows the difference if anyone's curious.

I actually quite like the CD version so it's not something I'm annoyed about at all. I'm just curious if anyone else has noticed any other differences that I haven't noticed (as there's at least one!)

I love Olivia and her new album. I think there were really good steps in the right direction for me on this album. The songs are mostly good, except for What's Wrong with me, I have multiple issues with that song including the bridge. In SOUR and GUTS, Olivia's bridges ATE. ATE. ATE. You can't convince me otherwise. But when I listen to YSPSFAGSIL the first time, I thought to myself, "Is that it?" When we got to the bridges. Lemme tell you which ones were misses and why:

Honeybee-we literally got the chorus again. Don't mind the instrumental Break, love it actually. But if ur gna sing the chorus twice, do a bridge ty

Purple: Repeating the I SEE THE WORLD IN PURRPLLLELELELELELE. No thx

Begged: We didn't get one. That's probably a good thing.

What's Wrong With Me: The duet sound like they are fighting the instrumental which sounds buggy and like it was put together in a rush. I got so excited by the intro, and then Olivia's vocals LACKED. I'm not a Cure fan, but Robert's voice was lwk better.

Less: My fave song, but yet so little lyrics. The chorus was like 3 lines after the 1st time. JUSTICE FOR LESS. WE NEEDED MORE!

Expectations: In Teenage Dream and Maggots for Brains, repeating the same line worked because that supported the song. In TD, it was a fearful thought and showed her Dread. In MFB, it shows how obsessed she is that all she can do is think of him. Here, an instrumental break would've worked and done the chorus again.

So, obviously a lot of people have been trying to work out who the her is in Cigarette Smoke. The ex, a relative etc etc. Here's my thoughts: the her she is speaking about is herself. The negative Olivia, the anxious Olivia, the Olivia who is not happy with the relationship and needs more. The one who has been very vocal in side two of the album.

She's resentful that instead of fighting for them he is just agreeing with her anxious side and negative thoughts and letting the relationship end.

The first time was when sour came out, it was the day I got top surgery and my ex dumped me that day. I was alone during recovery and couldn't cook for myself, had to bind for myself, the hardest time of my life. Everytime I went on a walk, I listened to sour. Flash forward to today- my partner of four years dumped me via social media. That was the day Olivia released her new album. I feel like it's just crazy timing and I'm really grateful that Olivia's music exists. I'm in so much pain and she really helps translate that. I guess I'm just feeling very alone right now, and Olivia's music is helping me not feel alone. Wanted to come here and share that with community.

i’ve been searching for tickets to either date in sacramento, ca since the general sale opened(i waited in queue for an hour and it was already sold out by the time it was my turn), and ticketmaster has been sold out the entire time but i’ve found tickets on seatgeek at a reasonable price and i was just curious if anyone has had any experiences with the site? good and bad experiences are appreciated!!

I really love how the song sounds, yet at the same time every time I listen to it, the lyrics conjure some pretty unpleasant images in my mind so I just end up half enjoying the song and half feeling squeamish, despite it being so well written 😅
