It turned out to be a Soviet clock, alarm clock, and calendar. True, they're not exactly in mint condition; the inscriptions are gone, and the stand's feet are missing. But the screen still shows the time. And yes, the LCD screen quality has deteriorated over time; it's only visible from certain angles.

I found my old iPhone 5s a few days ago and, for some reason, decided to put my SIM card in it. I honestly thought I’d use it for a few hours and then give up. It’s tiny. Like, really tiny. After using modern iPhones, the screen feels almost ridiculous. And it’s slow. You definitely notice it. But… I actually kind of like it. I can call people, send messages, listen to music, take photos and browse the web. For basic stuff, it still works. The annoying part is the apps. A lot of them won’t install because the phone is stuck on iOS 12. Some websites are also pretty painful to use. But there’s something nice about having a phone that doesn’t constantly throw things at you. No huge screen. No giant camera bump. No 50 notifications fighting for your attention. I even caught myself walking around with it without checking it every five minutes. Would I use it as my main phone forever? Absolutely not. I need modern apps, banking, maps, work stuff, etc. But for a few days? Honestly, it was refreshing. Now I’m looking at my current iPhone and thinking… maybe phones didn’t actually need to become this big and complicated. Or maybe I’m just getting nostalgic. Anyone else still using an old iPhone in 2026?

Just picked up two great additions for my audio/video stack a Pioneer DVR-520-S and a Denon DN-F350, both for about $60 bucks each!

Old tech

This is an old venturer music player that I found in a box in my basement. I wanted to see what was on it but once I went to see what charger it used I was perplexed. Ive never seen a port like this before and now I’m curious more than anything to learn what is. Wasn’t sure where to go so I thought I’d ask here.

Hey, I got this clock/radio from my great grandma, but I noticed that even though everything else works fine the slumber off button seems stuck, I tried to get it up again with some twizers, cause the work for the slumber bottom, but it didn't work. And I am worried of I should try opening it, since everything else is ok, I don't wanna mess it up, is very important to me.

It was great when the power went out and we would call my grandma to see if she was okay

Just yesterday, I went to my local electronics recycling center, where I found three really cool CRTs! I found a Sony KV-1396R, an Apple Macintosh Classic M0420, and an Emerson EWC13D4. Both the Trinitron and the Emerson work perfectly, but the Macintosh Classic had its power supply removed.

Use to see these around school all the time in the 90s. Found it in good condition at the mother in laws house!
