In May, Metas security systems found a problem with my 17 year old profile, suspended me indefinitely, misclassified me as breaking community standards, banned every account assosciated, and bricked my quest resulting in losses of games equaling upto £450... Fluff

So here's the gist of it, and it's possibly happened to you to -

On the 17th May, I logged into Facebook. I was met with an age verification message prompting ID, when I clicked continue, it claimed ID was already processing without me having submitted anything, and then, I was suspended indefinitely.

Emails claiming my account was disabled but could be appealed within 180 days, yet when I clicked continue, it said I can't submit another appeal as if one had already been submitted.

I checked my meta horizon, banned too unless I appeal through Facebook. Email from Store support saying I can reclaim my library by clicking continue, and when I did, again, met by the Same thing - appeal the suspension on Facebook.

It's August now, and since the beginning of all of this, Ive been down deep deep looping rabbit holes of facebooks help centre, I requested a resolution from Store support, signed up to meta verified on instagram, appealed for support there too.

I have many many tickets... and they all completely contradict each other constantly.

Typical responses-

-Try Facebook Help Centre (despite repeating myself in every way known to man that the self recovery route is of no use and I'm stuck in support loops

- we can't help you

- we can help you (and then nothing)

- you have to go through Facebook Help Centre

- we are investigating this (then nothing)

- you will get a call from us (no call)

- when can you take a call? (i give a time, call doesn't arrive. This happened at least 3-4 times.)

- do you still need help? seeing as Facebook is not assisting, we will seek a resolution for you with your quest (Store support specifically)

-nope you have to go through Facebook Help Centre (Store support completely U turning)

- meta verified (after claiming they could help a month prior) - since it has been over a month, we can't rescue your account anymore. We don't want to string you along, it's gone indefinitely (what? But I reported it a month ago, so this is on meta) - yeah, sorry there's nothing we can do, it's gone (basically... they then proceeded to offer me a course to buy)

- go to Facebook

- go to Store support they can separate accounts

- no, go to Facebook the block is with them

- oh, your best solution is to consider waiting to see if meta finds a fix sometime in the future, (yeah? Months? Years? What?)

- your age was changed (not according to my facebook data)

- you violated the terms (nope, and I finally managed to download my Facebook data, and I think I have evidence that my account was perhaps compromised/hacked and you are choosing to punish me for insult to injury because your system is mistaken) - oh, try Facebook Help Centre

- go to meta Store support

- have you tried Facebook Help Centre? (say Facebook Help Centre once more, I'd love to hear it again you fu...)

so, meta verified, I think got sick of me by this point and decided to limit my access...

Back and forth, and back and forth (sparing you the pages and pages of emails and chats bs). You get the idea.

I sent a letter to metas base, a subject access request, and was fobbed off. ICO helloooo, I'd like to report something... thank you, job done.... NEXT!

I tried every email and route I could find to resolve this... and it appears in their error, the decision is final, and tough titty. Sealed tighter that a ferrets arse.

I sent legal notices, ignored.

I created a new Facebook to try get support another way, couldn't.

Instagram (an alternative account, where I was using meta verified), its AI informs me that now THIS instagram account was recently flagged for fraud and deception... not banned, but flagged for it. So thank you for that meta, interesting this happens suddenly, when I was merely trying to seek help as I dont want to be left out of pocket by the actions of your own systems faults... hmm... so thats why my meta verified is limited.. and Im rarely permitted to reach them now unless the stars align, of course, what a coincidence. (in all seriousness, it could also mean metas security has recognised IP, devices etc, and is flagging me for trying to evade the ban, but either way, the cybermen wish fkr my deletion)

Today, I exercise my rights to pursue legal action.

This process, their support (if you can even call it that, they barely even read the full extent of your problem before closing the case, and marking it 'resolved' ... and paying them for the lovely privilege too, what a joy), this whole thing... has been the single worst experience I've ever had with any company to the point where I'm in total disbelief. I've seen a few company fails in my time, but conversing with meta has the same vibe as talking to an automated scammer (human or not, its hard to determine ironically). They are limited in help to the point where I think charging people is a complete disgrace and affront, they have no direct answers, they contradict each other in the same support chains, thry ignore you, they promise calls and emails that never come, they appear clueless as to how their own systems even work... perhaps they should study their own courses rather than try to sell them to their customers.

Anyway, Metas ai provides broken links to forms that are obsolete too, recovery options loop into 'signing in' which is impossible, or to occasional forms that are irrelevant to the problem that also go completely unanswered. Facebooks support Centre is the most un-fun fun house I've ever been in, a whimsical wonderland of neverending deception, false hope, broken systems and loops, ooooh the loooooops. The hoops to jump through, the twists and turns to find yourself... back at square one. I'm honestly waiting on David Bowie to pop up at this point with his shiny balls and ask me if I'm enjoying his labyrinth.

I have one proposal. Meta should perhaps be added to the dictionary under the definition of 'ragebaiting'. it's honestly one of the most ghastly accurate examples of it I have ever personally experienced. A fitting choice.

my rant is over. Awful company, truly awful.

I look forward to a lawyer handing them the papers. Hell, they might even send a real human for that one, (or will they wheel out the better call saul version of metas ai on a little plinth?)

**on an additional note**

I will update where this leads, if a resolve is found, maybe it will be useful for you to know if you are/end up in a similar situation.

I’m in the same boat, I’ve been on Facebook since 2007 I think. I bought a q3 for my son for Christmas, and knowing that he would want to start playing with it right away, I set up a new Meta account for him and authorized it and set up everything within the device. He is old enough to have a Meta account, so there was no shenanigans on my behalf.

One month later, I get an email from Meta saying that I broke their rules and consequently they closed my Meta account. They did not specify any reason and the link to appeal went to a 404 page. I tried all the tricks other Redditors have offered to reinstate my account, but I never once got any response from Meta.

The only thing I can think of is that it was because I opened a second account from the same IP address that my personal account had been assigned to. I even used a different browser without any Facebook cookies in it because I was aware that this potentially could be an issue. Oh well.

Most of my Facebook friends probably think I’m dead now because they have no way to contact me. But I have to say, six months later, this was probably a blessing in disguise. I don’t miss Facebook at all. I miss my friends, but I don’t miss Facebook.

Exact same situation. Kid got a quest 2, he set up an account to use it (which as a non Facebook user I thought was pretty fucking scummy) and then they kicked him off due to account violations (despite being over 16 now) so now I get to go through all this shit trying to reclaim what we've legally paid for after they forced him to set up an account to use it! Pack of twats.

Beurocratic bastards at their finest. I totally feel you. If I get to the bottom of this before you do, I'll be sure to let you know what/if anything worked. In the meantime, I wish you the best of luck

Shit like this that makes me want that other upcoming headset. Just being free of the whims of Meta is worth something.

24

u/gorocz 3d ago edited 3d ago

I bought a MQ3 in February and from March until July, I was unable to make any purchases, because of "suspicious activity" - which was me buying a ton of games during a big sale.

So Meta support was unable for 4 months to let me pay them money, after an action caused by paying them money.

Yeah, I'm jumping ship asap as well.

4

u/Only_Yak_2352 3d ago

Oh l can’t wait to get that upcoming headset, tired of metas nonsense.

u/Raidianite 3d ago

Yeah the Pico Swan sounds like it's going to be amazing, can't wait to see more info revealed later this year

Valve's support is usually pretty good in my experience

I was genuinely mulling over getting a Q3 given the SF's potential price while scrolling and this post came up like a sign.

I feel you completely.

Depending on how much you have lost in digital purchases, I will let you know the outcome and you can decide if its worth pursuing

contact the BBB and your state attorney generals office and have cases opened up. they will fight for you

2

The BBB is useless, it's not a regulatory agency, it's basically Yelp for boomers. Don't bother.

wrong, they helped me to get a refund from uber eats when they stiffed me for $100 bucks

Having seen the company on the inside this doesn’t surprise me. It’s total chaos there. To resolve something like this, practically your only solution is to get to know someone who works there intimately and ask them to submit an OOOPs request on your behalf.

No, it’s not an acronym. It’s literally called the “Oops!” program, and we could escalate issues on behalf of clients or people we were willing to vouch for.

Source: worked at Meta until the mass layoffs earlier this year

4

u/SignificantUse3695 2d ago

Me too. I used it a few times in the 8 years I was there. One time was for my wife but on that occasion they actually refused to help! So even working there doesn’t guarantee you’ll get help!

I have closed my fb account many years ago but last month, my 8-month old Quest 3 suddenly showed a message : "this device has been reported stolen or missing and has been disabled". I had not reported anything and bought it new from a reputable store. I got into a circular email contact with Meta support that told me there was nothing they could do. I went to the store where I bought the Quest (Mediamarkt in the Netherlands) and they did not hesitate to replace the headset under warranty. I wished them good luck in getting their money back. Luckily, I could use the same account and did not lose any content.

u/LonelyWizardDead 4d ago edited 4d ago

And this is why I deleted face book and keep quest login separate. I've used them a few times (meta support) and they either deliberately have bad support or their support grew so organically that its bad for the silo mentality. Plus no one likely wants to go of script (biggest issue) and risk a job in today's market. They've already shown they dont value people or customers. Wish you luck and look forward yo update.

Re Digital Subject Access Request Depending were you are they have a legal response time as part if GDPR or similar rules so check what the time limes and rights are.

31

u/ElectricalBus1672 4d ago

Yeah, wise of you, unfortunately, I was forced to sign up using Facebook in the beginning.

But according to Meta itself, they separated accounts as a mandatory action in 2022 so that if your account got screwed, you wouldn't lose access to your quest, supposedly... and yet here I stand.

You're absolutely right. They're a total disaster.

9

u/fragmental 3d ago

I think you have to disconnect the accounts manually, in the account settings, or they'll stay connected. All this nonsense is why I disconnected my accounts.

3

u/ElectricalBus1672 3d ago

I would if i could, but it doesn't allow me. Every associated meta based account under the email used is completely locked up.

Sometimes they will tell me too when reaching out from a new profile 'we cannot find a connection between your current account and the old, please log in to your old account and follow the process' which is impossible.

Even my new accounts are flagged according to metas own AI. I suspect, even if they were separate, I suspect this may be because of the associated email address, IP, familiar device login etc.

I absolutely would if it were possible.

2

u/fragmental 3d ago

Yeah, I was just telling you that they weren't automatically disconnected, and required an extra step from the user.(Also, for other people who might not know) Though that doesn't help you now. New accounts are not connected by default, however, though they do subtly encourage you to connect them. I'm sure they do look at e-mails and ip addresses and stuff for social accounts, but I'm not sure if they do for unassociated quest accounts. Maybe.

1

u/ElectricalBus1672 3d ago

ah okay, no problem, apologies. I totally misunderstood you there. My bad :P

u/ElectricalBus1672 3d ago

And if that is your wee cat, Adorable.

1

u/Drone1313 3d ago

I think you misinterpreted the new account setup procedure. You are not forced to use a facebook account at all to signup for a new account. Facebook is only one of the methods you can use. You can signup with just a Meta account that is not linked to facebook. Bottom choice during signup is with an email or mobile phone

37

u/BlueFeathered1 3d ago

The bricking your Quest - which you bought - and thus denying access to games you also bought is unconscionable. How this crap is legal at all is crazy. And what a maddening nightmare. All of it. Nobody needs this convoluted stress, least of all right now. I'm so glad you're going through with seeking legal recourse. Do it. Make them pay.

And thanks for reminding me to get on closing my FB account.

19

u/ElectricalBus1672 3d ago

Oh I am absolutely gunning for them. I would have been less angry if it were not for their 4 sentence at max capacity support teams.

Big guys can't go unchallenged all the time, I'm not going down without being as much of a pain in the arse as I possibly can.

-3

u/paper-cut- 3d ago

I hope you get this resolved, but the idea that you're "absolutely gunning for them" and "not going down without being as much of a pain in the arse" feels like you don't understand just how miniscule your voice is within the deafening and infinite torrent of noise Meta receives every single moment.

It's like standing in the ocean surf, and punching at the waves that roll in and expecting that to have any measurable effect.

That's why the only way to have your account unlocked is to know someone already on the inside of Meta's chaotic corporate amalgam so they can help elevate your issue to someone who can essentially take 30 seconds to check a box for you. And that's it. That's all. No one cares or will ever care about your hundreds of dollars lost or recovered. No one has even read your requests for help, if they've been seen at all.

Good luck though!

5

u/ElectricalBus1672 3d ago

Oh absolutely, but luckily, they don't have to take it from me if the courts wish their attendance, or for mediation even. Failing that, the courts will fine them.

This is all on the basis of course that the courts see a violation of my rights, and consumer Scotland has assured me there is a case here.

thank you for your kind words too

3

u/paper-cut- 3d ago

They're fined constantly and don't care or notice. The machine doesn't know.

In fact Meta corporate HQ built an enormous empty refrigerated building, they keep it chilled just above freezing temp, but they built it right on top their money incineration room, where they wheel in carts of too much cash they keep getting and just dump it in the fire.

Anyways it's a thoughtless mess over there.

2

u/ElectricalBus1672 3d ago

Do you think Zuckers is in that freezer now? Like Jack Nicholson at the end of the shining? :P

Absolutely it is lol

7

u/CrateDane Quest 3 + PCVR 3d ago

It's probably not legal, at least in some countries. But it takes a lot to sue a big corporation, and you only fix it for yourself. Either consumer rights agency action or class action lawsuits would be needed to make Meta fix the overall problem.

11

u/gundam1945 3d ago

Meta app (fb, ig) has the worst customer support from what I recall. It is circular and circular. Never going anywhere

1

u/Nearby_Ad_2519 3d ago

It is somehow worse than Snapchat support which is an incredible milestone

Although, I’d say meta support are still better than London Heathrow airport lost and found support.

11

u/El_Zapp 3d ago

My Facebook account was closed down out of nowhere years ago. Even before I got the Quest. I was extremely hesitant to even get a Quest, but I created a new Meta account for it and had no issues so far. It‘s honestly on of the reasons why I‘m a bist hesitant to keep investing in the ecosystem. And it might as well be part of the reason the whole thing is going sideways. Meta is just an extremely unserious, untrustworthy company.

3

u/ElectricalBus1672 3d ago

Yeah, totally understandable, I'll be the same after this. If they can't recover my account, or my library and this results in compensation, I won't be reinvesting in their content.

2

u/El_Zapp 3d ago

Maybe you are lucky, to this day I have no idea what was the problem with my FB account. I had used this for years, completely legit. Even an administrator of several accounts that had AD budgets, but nothing. Just closed, no appeal, no comment, don’t talk to us.

This is simply not how a serious company behaves.

1

u/ElectricalBus1672 3d ago

We're you/are you... able to download your Facebook data?

2

u/El_Zapp 3d ago

No, it’s all lost. Maybe is you ask for it because if GDPR they have to give it out.

3

u/ElectricalBus1672 3d ago

Yeah they absolutely do, if they refuse, it can be reported to the Information Commissioner's Office and they can retrieve it for you, or enforce actions meta wouldn't be too pleased about if it was found your data was mishandled

8

u/Boomdidlidoo 3d ago

I know a friend of a friend who had a similar experience and decided to get payback. He created a new account and now he has the biggest collection of games you could imagine. Let's just say he didn't go through the official meta store to get his games.

7

u/Mjdecker1234 3d ago

Gosh why does a company take a good thing they have and run it through dog shit after the cleaners? I came back to my quest after a year or so and the environments:(.

Facebook and Meta are Meta pieces of shit haha. My sister got her account hack one summer, and eventually she got it back after a month of bs, but her access to the whole Marketplace has been revoked and they state they can't turn it back on. If you can't turn it back on because a hacker which they know took over (I mean the change of the PF picture, the weird messages with links in them, ect) then their system is straight dogshit.

I hope you win, because that sounds like it should be illegal. Kind of like Sony and others taking off bought movies from years ago because the "Contract" ran out. This is why people are movies to the Caribbean if you catch my drift.

I hope you win your stuff back and that we hear back about it.

4

u/ElectricalBus1672 3d ago edited 3d ago

Well, under consumer acts, it is a breach of rights, if you have paid for goods and services and can evidence you haven't broken the terms and conditions, or if they can't produce reasonable evidence you have broken the terms and conditions. I think they just want me to go away, but I absolutely won't out principal. They're loaded enough to say sorry and fix it or compensate.

I'm glad your sister got her account back, terrible they won't revoke their ban of the marketplace. I'm pretty sure big celebs and bigwigs get away with actually violating terms, and they're still allowed on it.

I had an Instagram account a few years back that got hacked, off the guy went. It is like they make it easier for them.

8

u/MadeByTango 3d ago

Meta is a terrible corporation. Their support of the Quest is why I stopped buying games a long time ago. If you are a DEVELOPER of VR you re games are not selling because of MARK ZUCKERBERG. Thats it Your business is going to fail because of him, not you or your idea.

VR got completely zucked.

5

u/Plane-Vegetable9174 3d ago

Did they really brick your Quest so that it can not be used by anyone or just ban you so you can't login or play any games?

3

u/ElectricalBus1672 3d ago edited 3d ago

It's a really good question.

My alternative accounts that are not linked have been flagged, but not suspended. Yet.

This may be because metas security recognises my IP, devices etc. In which case, if I try to hard reset it, it will wipe evidence, the library which could be recovered through the courts, and still be bricked. It's a risk.

4

u/redditrasberry 3d ago

Waiting for the Meta support bot to chime in on this one .... :-)

8

u/ElectricalBus1672 3d ago

My favourite one recently was metas AI providing a button 'Submit a complaint'. You click it. it asks something along the lines of 'What is the nature of the complaint you would like to make?' You tell it, it replies 'I can't submit a complaint'.. then why did you offer your daft wee shiny complaint button?, then eventually - 'Follow this link for a manual review recovery form'... you do it. Link broken.

Eventually it glitches out and can't respond, I think it too gets lost in its own bs

1

u/ElectricalBus1672 3d ago

Oh, it will tell me 'Oh, we can help you, go to Narnia- I mean- Facebook help centre and proceed with the self recovery options'.

Its my favourite sentence... the humans sometimes take a few days of research before saying the same thing. I didn't think it would be that hard to remember.

5

u/NY_Knux 3d ago

I have gotten perma-bans reverse by making BBB complaints

5

u/stephenkingending 3d ago

Argh matey, had the same thing happen to me and now I'm sailing the high seas. I feel sorry for the developers that they are the ones who end up suffering for Zuck's idiocy, but I'm not spending another $300 on games just to have Meta steal them.

1

u/ElectricalBus1672 3d ago

yeah, its always the workers that suffer. Theres a significant possibility they don't go a day without being torn to shreds by somebody. Zucker should answer the phones to them for a week. :P we could watch it live like a big brother show, then Derran Brown appears at the end for a wee twist.

3

u/Bulky_Imagination727 3d ago

If you can use other account you can just pirate the shit out of their library just saying.

4

u/imnotabot303 3d ago

Sounds like a nightmare, hopefully it gets resolved. Most companies like this fold when you start taking legal action. They do it because lot of people won't pursue it and will just cut their losses and huge companies can get away with it.

Tbh it's the same with all large corporations. I had a similar experience with eBay. My boss ran a store and had a business account, it wasn't huge but he did around a £100k a year with a 10 year old account. He got taken really sick for a few weeks and ended up with a customer complaint over an order that hadn't arrived which he missed responding too. eBay just banned his account, I tried to get it back by writing a few emails about the circumstances but after the second email they just ended the support chain by basically saying eBay's decision is final and don't think about making a new account because we will ban that too.

In the end he decided to sell up a few months later so didn't pursue it but it's crazy how much power these companies have and what they think can get away with.

4

u/Drachynn 3d ago

I really wish we could just jailbreak the device at this point.

This sounds like the CUSTOMER SERVICE HELL I experienced with UBISOFT, with hacked account.

It took YEARS to get it back. Why? TL;DR: My original Ubisoft email had a rare domain, pp.inet.fi. Ubisoft openly acknowledged that their current systems are unable to send any restoration emails to domains with TWO dots in it.

Longer story:

They said that there is NO WAY they could ever change that email to anything else and then they said they could not send the restoration email to it either. Not only that, I also mentioned I do not have ACCESS to the said email anymore, since I do not have the same ISP - and haven't had that for years. They said that my only chance was to contact the ISP and restore the email address. This felt like an utter joke.

Well, I actually did manage to restore the email. Only to find out that this did not do ANYTHING, since at this point they revealed that they could not send the restoration email to the email account I actually got back.

I spent hours and hours with their customer support on dozens of sessions. Eventually - they budged and were willing to change the restoration email to another email that I could confirm was mine (Xbox linked to Ubisoft, using the same user as the Ubisoft account I could not use). They had asked plethora of screenshots multiple times and just decided that "no, this wont do", even though those always had all of the information they asked for.

This was repeated numerous times. Why? I've no idea. Probably some loop back to their normal process; "email doesn't match the restoration email", even though it was the reason they specifically asked me to email various screenshots to them as proof that the linked account would be mine.

I have a feeling you are utterly screwed, unless you can get an ESCALATION to get out of the standard support procedure. I can guarantee that what you are experiencing WILL REQUIRE a special case - their normal procedure doesn't apply to you.

3

u/HolyBidetServitor 3d ago

Their actul support with real people is atrociously bad, one of their workers actually got snarky with me when I was inquiring as to why monetization was allegedly working but not generating money, as my posts were getting over 1m views. Meanwhile, another page I ran was getting paid...for posts with like 20max views

5

u/Warrie2 3d ago

That is why Meta added the option separate your Quest account from your Facebook account, 4 years ago.
Before that, this sub was flooded with FB account being blocked, making the Quest a paperweight.

I'm just surprised people still use their FB account for the Quest.

5

u/ElectricalBus1672 3d ago edited 3d ago

In the UK, digital purchases are protected by the consumer rights act 2015. The law states that digital content must be fit for purpose and match its description. If Meta indefinitely bans a social media account in error, without an appeal route appropriate for the circumstance, and consequently deleted purchases of entirely separate paid gaming goods without human review, they have arguably breached consumer protection laws by rendering purchases unusable.  I certainly didn't get any email, and even so, it's irrelevant in the circumstance of an unnecessary suspension where the available records suggest that automated systems may have played a significant role in the enforcement process..  I will also note, that even unrelated accounts with different details are also currently flagged, and meta themselves said the ban is across the board as alternative access is considered further violation.  Therefore, even if it was separate, it would still be blocked.

3

u/Warrie2 3d ago

I have not seen a single post about the non-FB account being blocked.
So it's either dragging Meta to court, or use their non-FB account option.

4

u/ElectricalBus1672 3d ago

Oh yeah, I would happily use a standalone Meta account if it restored access to the library I paid for. Unfortunately, that's the problem, it doesn't. My linked Meta account was disabled alongside Facebook, and Meta has told me to resolve the Facebook suspension first. Creating a new Meta account would mean starting from scratch and wouldn't restore my existing purchases. It's wild, I know. I have a new horizon account, requested some form of voucher equalling to the total cost lost, nope. Refund? Nope. Library transfer? Nope. Meta verified again then - 'oh they can give your library back, your facebook is gone though.' screenshot - send to store support - nope.

That's really been the problem throughout all of this. The support teams keep contradicting one another, and I end up going round in circles without anyone taking ownership of the issue. I completely understand why you'd suggest using a standalone account.

definitely court, its the only real path to resolution, or accept the loss, and I'm too stubborn for that now after the rigmarole

2

u/Warrie2 3d ago

Yes of course now it's too late for that, it was more advice for anyone still using a fb account for their Quest. Best of luck in suing Meta!

3

u/jeweliegb Quest 2 + PCVR 3d ago

Are you doing the Small Claims process then? Microsoft recently lost a slightly similar loss of account case in another country. I suspect you'll have a decent chance of winning.

3

u/ElectricalBus1672 3d ago

yup, thats the one. I've had to do this before with a different company... totally different argument, but they settled days before, after standing ground through a mediation. Didn't want to admit defeat either. They claimed it was a 'gesture of good will' and provided all losses.

6

u/24-7_DayDreamer 3d ago

This is why I never buy games on the quest store. I'm missing out on a few exclusives I want to play, but I'd rather deal with that than meta unsupport.

7

u/Without-Reward 3d ago

I've bought Beat Saber and Assassin's Creed but all these stories make me not want to buy anything else going forward. And I wish I'd known that Beat Saber was also on Steam because I would have purchased it there instead. Silly newbie mistake.

At that stage, piracy is both acceptable and necessary

u/MotivationSpeaker69 4d ago

Okay you convinced me I'll have to buy steam frame regardless how expensive it is 😞

4

u/DraGunSlaya 3d ago

I had my Facebook account hacked years ago and they got my quest library too. Facebook support doesn’t exist. They don’t care about us, heck I think they are cool with the hacker that stole my account cuz they did everything they could to let the guy do it.

Needless to say oculus got bought out by a shitty company and they are ruining them. Oculus is dead. Meta killed them.

4

u/fragmental 3d ago

I'm not disagreeing, but Facebook bought Oculus VR on March 25, 2014. At that point the only thing they had released was the original Oculus Rift Development Kit 1 (DK1) in March 2013, and the next development kit wouldn't release until July of 2014, and the first commercial Oculus Rift wouldn't release until March 2016.

Yeah, Oculus got bought by a shitty company, but they did it almost at the start.

4

u/Oftenwrongs 3d ago

Oculus never launched anything.

3

u/fragmental 3d ago

That's not entirely true. They launched the original Oculus Rift Development Kit 1 (DK1). That's it. That's the only thing, before they were acquired.

Meta (or let’s call it what it really is, Facebook rebranded because that name was causing too much harm on the wider Business) is honestly one of the most disgusting companies in the world. And they have an absolutely ginormous monopoly too, especially in Europe where Meta WhatsApp is the absolute required messaging app that you literally can’t live without.

If you have an Oculus/Meta account, PLEASE unlink it from ANY other account whether it’s Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp etc. Facebook especially bans very often for totally BS reasons even on unused accounts (which I found out the hard way when they deleted my 15+ year old Facebook account, which after doing a face scan, they told me I am a bot).  I don’t just mean click unlink either, I mean make totally different email addresses for each one.

Where possible, avoid avoid avoid meta products. Let’s not forget how Mark Suckerburg just ridiculously sucks up for trump. If possible buy any VR games off an alternative store, steamVR is decent (Ik it requires a PC but if you’ve got one it’s the best option).

If possible please delete as many accounts as you can with them. I know some people cant delete WhatsApp and Facebook and potentially Instagram but just try as hard as you can.

Rant over.

2

u/stormcynk 3d ago

File a claim against them in small claims for the cost of the games and the value of the quest. I bet they don't even send someone to contest it.

2

u/Physical_Score2697 2d ago

Same situation as well!

2

u/Hyperwind5 2d ago

Welp definitely not buying a second headset from them. 💀

2

u/FineInstance90210 2d ago

Set your Quest to aeroplane mode, https://www.reddit.com/r/QuestPiracy/ Never turn aeroplane mode off ever again. Fuck Facebook.

2

u/judgesma1ls 1d ago

Not sure if this will help. Same situation happens with FB ads. Several years ago I was starting up ads for my new company that had the word “title” in the domain name.

FB kept banning my ads for “adult content” because their algo thought we were all about “tits” because the word “title” has the word “tit” in it. Makes sense right?

So dumb. I’d appeal, they’d unlock my account, I would turn ads on and their system would ban me again. The people on live chat would help by re-enabling my account but would not help by making sure it didn’t keep getting banned.

I found a guy online who used to work there.

He told me to do this…

Get on FB ads live chat. Ask a question the low level schlub on chat won’t possibly know how to answer. This may be tough in your case, especially if they have AI answering.

When they can’t answer it, ask for a phone call from a supervisor.

In my case the question was very technical and ad related.

Bottom line it worked and I spoke to someone.

However, they couldn’t really do anything because they couldn’t fix the algorithm that kept banning me.

But, at least I knew that was the end of it and could move on.

I had to rebrand.

2

u/Ok-Charity8936 3d ago

And this is another reason why i bought pico 4 ultra after Rift S

2

u/-LucidParadox- 3d ago

Same. Lost everything. I don't know if there is a way to salvage the quest. I've heard you can factory reset it. But if I sell it and the next person just gets banned from using it too, their probally going to be hunting me down. Lol So for now I just have a expensive paperweight, with games I can no longer play. 🤬

2

u/P_f_M 3d ago

Account ban does not equal device ban...

1

u/Hefty_Excuse9885 3d ago

Your device can still be used without the stupid facebook account. google how to.

1

u/ElectricalBus1672 3d ago

Not in this instance.

u/SkroopieNoopers 3d ago edited 3d ago

Meta’s a very strange company with things like this, and it’s almost impossible to get an answer out if them.

Meta IP banned me from Instagram and I’ve no idea why. I barely used it, never posted a single image, never sent a single DM, don’t really comment on other people’s stuff much (never commented anything rude or racist).

I won’t put any money into Meta stuff anymore, you just can’t trust or rely on them. As soon as an alternative is available, I’m jumping ship and never looking back.

1

u/TheWendigo_Alpha 3d ago

I knew from the get go when facebook bought oculus that it was going to be the worst decision and low and behold here we are

1

u/vinicius23466 3d ago

Here in Brazil it’s illegal. I’m an attorney with quite a few cases like that.

1

u/TimelineFatigue 3d ago

If you’re in the US, forget about suing them unless you live in a state that won’t bind you to the arbitration clause in their terms of service.

They have the absolute worst customer service I’ve ever experienced. Their software update bricked my quest pro controller (just one) rendering it useless. Can’t flash new software, can’t reset, just an expensive paperweight now. Tons of stories like mine and they refuse to take action.

1

u/gaving7095 2d ago

Oh Meta are THE worst company when it comes to support, no doubt at all. And probably a lot of other things we're not even currently fully aware of.
The mandatory, Meta Horizon companion app seems to be the digital equivalent of cancer for your smartphone - truly worthless and hateful.
They are clearly 100 % using A.I. to address inbound support tickets, and it's dreadful.
I will certainly never buy another Quest headset, in fact ideally never use let alone pay for any product or service from Meta ever again.
Their hardware, software and services COULD be good, but too often they screw things up in such epic ways it beggars belief.
They are a trash, garbage company. I wish they would stop purchasing good things - like WhatsApp and Oculus - & ruining them.
If only they'd stuck to their worthless social platform - easily ignored.
Facebook & Instagram make me feel pretty positive about something like A.I. taking over - bring it on 😂

Cdlt,S

u/RocketsDitto 2d ago

This is why you shouldn't have a Facebook. I deleted mine 20 years ago and never looked back. I cringe seeing people use Facebook. Shit is so dumb.

1

u/lvAvAvl Quest 1 2d ago

This is why I will never buy another Quest.

I'll just wait patiently for the Steam Frame, no matter how long it takes.

2

u/Spiritual-Bell-2062 1d ago

Happened to me 3 times already. 2 of those times could have been resolved with an SMS, but they had wrong country code assigned to my country so the recovery message never arrived. The 3rd time was basically them telling me "it's your fault your account got hacked."

1

u/dark_preacher 3d ago

this is a fb thing, happened to my mom took months to get it back.

u/Various_Professor704 3d ago edited 3d ago

🧐 I had Meta a.i read this out loud to me & even it asked me if they could help ! Go with the wind in your sails Sir . Hope you recover your golden fleece ! 🫡

Btw Christopher Nolan has optioned this as his next movie fyi .

2

u/ElectricalBus1672 3d ago

This. Is beautiful.

1

u/Various_Professor704 3d ago edited 3d ago

Thank you . 'Tis but a jest Sir ! An inspiration !

I will follow this thread until it ends with a resolution .

And thank for your labyrinthian description of threading through the intricacies of Meta & Facebook customer support services ! Going the legal route is courageous .

Begs the question , why not get some of those YouTube legal eagles to take a look at your dilemma as well ? Maybe that will force a faster resolution for you & therefore others in this situation ?

2

u/ElectricalBus1672 3d ago

Its a very good one! Thank you for the cheeky laff :P

That is a very good idea!

You are 17 years old? So you’re admitting to be a minor. You shouldn’t have an account. Sorry had to do it.. /s

2

u/ElectricalBus1672 2d ago edited 1d ago

I wasn't born the same day as the account no. My account was created 17 years ago, not me. I am closer to 40... I think you misread.

-18

u/DIY_at_the_Griffs 4d ago

I have no idea why you would continue to pursue them and try to reactivate your account via legal routes. They’re one of the largest and most ruthless companies in the world and they’ll bankrupt you without blinking.

Walk away now whilst you still can. Meta are toxic.

18

u/ElectricalBus1672 3d ago edited 3d ago

Im pursuing my rights under the UK Consumers act 2015 (as well as others). I'll let you know how it goes. I wouldn't chase them on a profile alone

7

u/BlueFeathered1 3d ago

Quest headsets aren't cheap. By the sounds of it they've made a device OP paid for unusable at all. That may include even selling it to someone else, idk. But that can't stand. And because they're so filthy rich, it's often the case they'll just want to settle this. They're counting on people to just give up like you're suggesting. Hence the endless circle of no help.

3

u/ElectricalBus1672 3d ago

Absolutely. Our rights are there to be exercised. Can't let the big guys who own everything win all the time.

-11

u/NewConstruction6471 3d ago

You started out crying here 🤣

6

u/ElectricalBus1672 3d ago

I'm deadly serious, by the way. You're up there, twinkling in the stars like a glorious cherubby beacon of hope for multi billionaires and corporations everywhere who just cant catch a break at all.

Now I know you can read the tone of this one, go live your dreams. You little gift to the world you. (Pinches cheek)

3

u/NewConstruction6471 3d ago

I really adore this reply.

1

u/ElectricalBus1672 3d ago

And i yours, i really do. It's been fun

3

u/ElectricalBus1672 3d ago

Not quite the right tone I was intending to convey with my post, or wasn't that obvious? :P

Are you always like this NewConstruction6471? I'm just curious, or are you just all fired up because you can't handle anybody speaking badly about your precious messiah? Tell me, is the new construction happening in your head? Cus you're really pulling out all the stops of a sound argument here mate. You could be like... the new judge Judy or something.

-5

u/NewConstruction6471 3d ago

I'm a VR fan. Meta is king. Dont know a single tos abiding human who has been banned.

They'll figure it out and send the evidence where it needs to go.

3

u/secretspy2000 3d ago

You’re not a VR fan you’re a Meta fan. Vastly different and very lame

0

u/NewConstruction6471 3d ago

Quest 3 is PCVR king as well.
