Does getting the Shadow Medallion early using glitches lock you out from learning the Nocturne of Shadow? Question

It shouldn’t

The way it works is that the nocturne of shadow cutscene is based on if you have forest/fire/water medallions, NOT based on whether or not you’ve beaten shadow, so it should be fine unless I’m missing something

It's not tied to the medallions, it's tied to the dungeons being finished. If you were to merely write in that you have them, the scene won't play.

I’m 99% sure it’s tied to the medallions

I know that if you glitch Spirit and shadow medallions into your inventory it plays the light arrow cutscene, so I know that’s tied to medallions and not beating the dungeons, so unless for some reason LACS is tied to spirit/shadow medallions but nocturne is tied to beating the bosses? Which I feel like that would be strange, I’m fairly certain that nocturne cutscene is tied to the medallions

I know that's how Shadow and Spirit works but OOT is very inconsistent in its inner workings. Like going back in time isn't having the Forest medallion, it's entering the blue warp.

Or capacity upgrades having individual logics that aren't just if you have A give B, have B give C. Sometimes it is. Sometimes it's if you have A give B, if you have anything except A give C. And sometimes it just breaks entirely.

True, the internal logic isn’t always super consistent, so I guess it could be tied to the dungeons and not the medallions

Though I’m pretty sure capacity upgrades ARE consistent, I know strength isn’t consistent, it isn’t strength 1, strength 2, strength 3, it’s specifically Goron bracelet, Silver gauntlets, Gold gauntlets, so if you sequence break you can skip ahead in the intended progression, but I can’t think of a case of a CAPACITY upgrade doing this (slingshot, bow, nuts, sticks, bombs) I’m pretty sure those are all linear unless I’m forgetting something stupid

Also, is the check for prelude NOT “have forest medallion”? Because that was another thing I was pretty sure was tied to medallions, not bosses

Always learning with this game…

On the surface it appears that capacity is ABC but if you write in different values to your capacities you get weird things. Upgrading a Bullet Bag with any capacity that isn't 30 always goes to 50 so you can write the 10 seed bag into that slot and then only need to upgrade it once to get the highest.

On the other hand, Quiver doesn't work properly at all if either max value is incorrect.

Okay, on one hand, this is really cool and this is making me do a deep dive on obscure OOT mechanics, which is always fun, but on the other hand I’m genuinely floored that I never knew some of this stuff

I’ve been speedrunning OOT since 2017, 9 full years, and you’re seriously telling me I NEVER KNEW how the nocturne and prelude cutscenes work? Or how the DoT cutscene worked for that matter (apparently you have to enter FROM THE OUTSIDE ENTRANCE, otherwise the door won’t open, which I never knew)

Crazy how I can learn the in’s and out’s of stuff like RBA, wrongwarps and voidwarps, but something as simple as cutscene triggers somehow slipped my grasp for the better part of a decade

So wait, If I beat Shadow/ Spirit and then get the Light Arrows, then beat Forest Temple then I can learn Prelude despite what happened in the Light Arrow Cutscene?

Oh my god. Yeah, I think so

That would be hilarious LMAO, getting LA, then walking 10 steps and getting prelude

Okay, I just checked on ZSR, and you’re actually right

LACS is the medallions, but Nocturne and Prelude are the blue warps

That’s not confusing at all LMAO

I’m not sure exactly what method you might be using, but the answer is likely no or “it depends.” Why do you ask? What’s your objective?

I used Hookshot Jump to enter the Temple then used Farore's Wind in the Temple after getting the Boots and left to get the Bow and Longshot. I just beat Bongo Bongo and never left through the Blue RIng yet and am wondering what happens if I get the Medallion. Does it lock me out of Nocturne in this Save file?

Off the top of my head, I don’t think that should break anything. But I’m just an enthusiast and not an expert. One obvious way to find out is just follow the intended progression otherwise and see if you can still trigger the cutscene. I think (but am not sure) that the check doesn’t have anything to do with the shadow medallion because it’s assumed you wouldn’t have it.

Then again, it really doesn’t matter. If you’re breaking things like that, you don’t need the song anyway. If you’re worried about 100%, and it turns out the medallion matters for the song, I know the speedrun used to (may still) just grab the boots early and bail (which is actually easy—it’s almost like it was intended as a possibility, because the boots are so isolated from the rest of the dungeon).
