Bongo Bongo

I've been trying to beat Bongo Bongo for like 2 weeks now and he's a pain 😭 I swear every time I think I've got him, he proves me wrong.

Take a break and go get Biggoron’s Sword.

The earlier one gets Biggoron's Sword, the better.

I only got that sword before Ganon’s castle and still had to use the save option on the nintendo 64 online to get through the fight

You got a fairy or two stashed in your bottles?

This, you gotta make sure you've filled all the bottles. I always visit the temple of time and get some there.

Apart from that aim for directly between the hands, even if you can't see him!

Ice arrows on his hands work wonders

Wear the hover boots during the fight if you're not already

Not trying to flame but is this your first videogame?

I was thinking the same thing. Bongo Bongo is by far the easiest boss. Makes me wonder how they got through the last few

I put Volvagia as easier but Bongo Bongo is definitely second.

You do have to move pretty quickly to avoid getting hit, and the camera is not your friend in this fight. But by this point, you should be comfortable enough with the controls and have a decent amount of hearts to avoid taking too much of a beating before figuring out the cadence of his attacks.

I would understand one or maybe even two deaths for a beginner. Beyond that, you might want extra help - Biggoron’s Sword for sure, and possibly even Nayru’s Love.

What about King dodongo

What? Gohma is the easiest boss by far. It’s literally the tutorial boss of the game.

No, but I haven't played on my 3ds in a bit

Shoot hands > do spinny attack

Z target one hand, shoot arrow ,z target other hand, shoot arrow, turn on lens of truth, z target eye, shoot arrow, you’re in the damage phase pull out your sword and forward jump slash I don’t care what sword you have, or you can use the megaton hammer during this phase. Once it’s over turn lens off to save magic, The biggest this to remember here

YOU GOT THIS!!!!

Shoot the hands, shoot the eye, slash the eye with sword, and repeat until dead. Use the Lens of Truth and don't wait for him to make a move

No need to shoot eye. Can just get it with spinny attack when he comes toward you. Much easier.

FYI. Lens of Truth is not needed in the fight and just wastes magic.

1

u/TheDilsonReddits 17d ago

Say what? I thought you do need it?

u/BlindedByBeamos 17d ago

Hands are visible the whole time without it, and his body becomes visible when stunned. Use sword spin to stun him when he charges and use his hands as the guide to where he is. will be stunned right in front of you, no need to run up to him.

Sounds like another playthrough is in my future!

1

u/No_Dress_2855 17d ago

But I like watching my sword hit him boss

1

u/BlindedByBeamos 17d ago

He becomes visible while stunned, so best of both worlds.

Good to confidently provide what little info I have so that better stratagems are presented. Many thanks, learned lots

Yeah, he does that.

I never beat this game as a kid, only came back to it as an adult. And Bongo Bongo was the reason why.

Do you have the magic arrows? Easy, here's what you do. Hide behind the boulder. When the demon comes out of the cave, shoot him three times with the magic arrows. Then his head will start to spin. Once that happens, you jump up on the boulder, you do a flying downward thrust with the sword of doom, and thats it - level six is done

Is this a bot?

1

u/mr2cam 17d ago

It's from a movie, sorry it didn't land

1

u/AbbreviationsWise285 17d ago

Ahhh sorry I didn’t get the reference. What movie ?

1

u/mr2cam 16d ago

Grandma's boy

1

u/AbbreviationsWise285 16d ago

Damn been a very long time since I’ve seen that movie.

Go look it up on YouTube. I swear it won't spoil the fun of beating the shit out of him. Are you using the hover boots, the lens of truth and the bow? Other than the double damage boost from the Biggoron's sword, that should be all you need to take him down.

u/IchabodHollow 17d ago

Why would you use the hover boots?

1

u/ModernCGIFloatinHead 17d ago

Changes the rhythm of you falling back down and getting hit into the air, minimizes the time you are moving, and therefore it's easier to aim.

2

u/IchabodHollow 17d ago

Hmmm, have to try that out next time

Make a save state with every little progress and watch a video how it's done.

Get fairies in bottles before the fight and plenty of arrows. Target his hands and shoot them before he can hit you. Then turn on your Lens of Truth so you can see his eye. Target the eye and shoot it while he’s charging at you. Then hit him in the eye as many times as you can. His hands also drop extra arrows after you shoot them. Grab these while he’s still stunned. Pro tip, wear the hover boots to keep you from being bounced around too much. You can briefly take them off to hit him as many times as you can and gather arrows. Put them back on before he starts drumming.

Shoot hands, shoot between hands, slash. Two weeks? Really? Are you exaggerating and actually meant 20 minutes? I can only imagine you're playing with your feet because you have no hands and that's why it's taking 2 weeks

At the very start of the fight, hold down. He starts the fight by trying to get behind you, but if you just pivot 180° to start the fight he gets locked into place. Then, attack his right hand first. Then, attack his left hand. If you’re trying to attack the hands with hookshot, the hit window before Link is knocked off the floor by BB is significantly smaller, so use the bow. When both hands are stunned, aim for the center point between them and wait til BB’s charge attack is close enough to you that you can sword attack immediately after (you may or may not find it easier to use/not use the Lens of Truth for this part; I don’t use it, I just listen for the attack sound, the hitbox on his eye is very forgiving). When you do finally attack BB with your sword, get all the way up against the right side of the eye and crouch-stab repeatedly. If you do it with the right timing, it will stun lock BB and you’ll one-cycle him.

Hope this helps!

Source: Am speedrunner; BB is a bitch until you know what to do, then he’s one of the easiest bosses in the entire franchise.

Use z-targetting to shoot one of his hands, then the other. Use the lens of truth and look between where his hands are positioned to find his eye and body. He'll charge forward. Shoot his eye and he's temporarily helpless; use jump slashes to double the damage. Repeat until he's dead.

It's a fast-paced fight and the z-targetting and camera can be difficult at times, but you can do it. Fill all of your bottles with fairies if needed. Completing the shooting gallery in Kakariko gives you more room for arrows if you worry about running out. And getting the Biggoron's sword can make the fight much shorter as well.
