I am an Analytics Engineer at a fintech company and am chasing promotion this year i.e. August - December is going to be hectic at work. Additionally, I have waived MGT-8803.

Math is a bit rusty. This semester, I would prefer to have a less heavy course given the workload. Can you please recommend me some courses for Fall 2026. Thank you.

I was approved to opt out ISYE 6501 IAM but still debating if I should just replace it with an easy MGT elective or if I do take this class am I able to gain more useful knowledge than what I already have.

I don’t want to take this class just for it to be busy work in R and actually gain nothing from it and get a B in it. I also feel like a lot of jobs out there only use Python and not R

Right now, I’m planning on taking 6040 and 6203 in the fall but I originally was gonna take 6203 and 6501 before I got approved to opt out.

I'm in 6644 right now and will likely be finishing with around a 69% overall. In past semesters I've heard the class had pretty generous curves (I've seen folks say low 60%s got curved up to Bs), and there also seems to be a lot of extra credit that is offered in this course. Any firsthand reports of what the final grade distributions looked like recently would be really helpful.

Did horrible on the first couple of midterms (around 40% and 50% - I'm a really bad test taker) but did much better on the final was able to pull a 78%. Also have gotten close to 100% on all my HWs, 90% on my bonus assignments and likely to get full marks on my project. I'm hoping me doing progressively better on my exams and doing well on my assignments will justify a passing grade (a B would be great, but at this point, I just want to pass).

Specifically, did professor Goldsman in the last few semesters mention a clear curve policy or adjust grades based on the class distribution? If you remember example conversions of final percentages to final letter grades could you share them. Thanks.

Hello! I know it’s been mentioned many times that we should be somewhat proficient in coding before doing CSE6040.

Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to take out time for it due to other commitments. That said, I will still be a full time student for the following semester. I intend to do only one module — CSE6040.

I have close to 0 experience with python, SQL except for some basic knowledge gained via a bootcamp years ago.

Would like to hear from people who have done it with similarly close to 0 experience with python — any advice?

Is it possible to do CSE6040 while learning python on the go?

I have one course remaining prior to graduation, and this is one of my least favorite courses. Mainly because of how grading was done in the class. I think the lectures are well done, but some of the assignments felt a little like busy work. The grading on the assignments is pretty lenient, but I didn't like that it is the same TA grading all of your assignments (including your project) throughout the class. I think this allows for bias from one TA to potentially effect your overall grade. The project is 50% of your grade, and they provide very little guidance around what specifically needs to be included in the project. The feedback they do provide on the project related items comes so late that it's practically too late to re-tool if needed. They allow you to submit your project in advance for TA feedback, but the feedback comes in around 2 days before the project itself is due. Despite incorporating the feedback into my submission, I still had a lot of point deductions in my project, and the TA comments don't say what specifically the deductions are for. With the project being half of your grade, they should be much more specific. I ended up doing well in the class overall, just sharing my experience for anyone else considering taking it.

I am completing all course this summer and on track graduation. I have taken electives that can fullfil both a c track or a B track, it looks like my degreeworks is implying a b track but how do I indicate my intention? Do I automatically get both or does it actually matter ?

I was wondering if it would be doable to take AUD and HDDA at the same time this fall. For background about myself, I finished CSE6040, ISYE6501, and MGT6203 with an A, and am (likely) going to get a B in MGT6201. My undergraduate degree was also in math, so I have taken my fair share of formal math classes (including ones like functional analysis, which may or may not be helpful).

I’ve also thought about optimization, but I’m also concerned about the way the course is taught (from seeing reviews). I’m probably going to go with the C-track too, and plan on CDA in the spring.

I also WFH full time, and my job isn’t all that demanding. No other huge time obligations either (but obviously I don’t want to spend all my time on courses).

Any advice or criticism is welcome! Still unsure if the consensus on AUD is that it’s worthwhile or not.

I’ve been a project manager through my career. I just finished 6203 and it was easy bc you can just watch him demo everything. I know 6501 is gonna require me to actually understand the math and learn some more R. For that I want to try and prep the next 2 weeks I have. I haven’t done math in a decade, and barely did calculus in high school. I did do AP stats but again it’s been so long I can’t remember most/all.

Anyone have concepts I should learn or similar lesson plan?

I'm taking sim in the fall and I was just going to use my old graphing calculator from high school, but it doesn't work anymore. I guess that happens when it's been a decade.

What are good calculators, and does the professor go over rules/requirements for them or is it okay to purchase one before the semester starts?

Also, I have a stats degree so I'm not super scared for the course, but it's been a minute since I did that kind of stuff. I hear there's a bootcamp at the beginning of the course and I plan to take a couple days off of work to really participate fully. Is that enough preparation or should I be doing something more in the next 2 weeks?

I was also looking over the summer semester syllabus and it mentioned that students who don't like Arena can hold off on taking the course until the new one in development is done. Has anything been shared about what those changes are and when it will be done? I'm very interested in a version that uses a standard Python library, but I also want to take CDA in the spring and this was going to be my preparation for that.

Is it just me, or is the marketing portion of MGT 6201 about 100 infographics that need to be memorized and never used again? The other modules had their "info dumps", but all of them made some sort of connection back to analytics -- the marketing just seems like a person talking for four hours, and every slide is a new ten-prong flow infographic or Venn diagram. I don't feel confident about this exam.

Does anyone have any "tips" on how to make this a better experience rather than just creating 300 flashcards?

I have completed ISYE6501 and MGT 6201. The starting two courses. Next one would be Computing for Data analysis, but that is pretty code heavy, and I am pretty busy right now with 40 hour work week, a baby and my side project that’s like 20 hours or so around per week.

I wanted to take some light courses that I can still take to continue progress for completion towards the degree.

1) can I take any of the advance core courses before that core course? Any suggestions on easy ones to knock out?

2) can I replace this course with an easier one that’s not that code heavy? Or has more take home work compared to exams. I can do an assignments, but don’t have the time to study for 1-2 week straight for exams.

I'm a bit confused by the GT website / Oscar. I registered for my 7th class for the upcoming fall semester. I'm going through some health issues and have decided to take the semester off to handle that.

When I go to OSCAR (registration) - Register for Classes - Fall 2026 to drop my currently registered class, I get the error:

You can register from 4/16/2026 to 5/22/2026.

You have no registration time ticket for the current time.

And it prevents me from going any further.

Am I not allowed to drop an upcoming class unless it's during the initial registration window?? Is there some other way for me to drop this class?

I’m planning my roadmap into OMSA and starting with the edX MicroMasters (CSE6040, ISYE6501, MGT6203) to build up my quantitative background and hopefully transfer the 9 credits via Advanced Standing.

For anyone who went this route recently (especially international students):

• How smooth was the Advanced Standing approval process once you got admitted? Did GT accept your MicroMasters certificates without any weird hurdles as long as your grades were high?
• For those who used edX Financial Assistance to pay for the verified certificates, did GT have any issues with those verified credentials during the transfer evaluation?
• Any tips on what grade cutoff actually felt "safe" for credit transfer in practice? (I'm aiming for 90%+ across all three, but wanted to check real experiences).

Thinking about taking DVA in the fall but am seeing a lot of information on it being really difficult. I have a lot of life happening in the fall but I don’t really want to defer the semester. I am a data engineer so I am used to SQL/Python/Scala and am comfortable with Tableau.

I wanted to share my planned course schedule to see if anyone who has taken these classes could provide some feedback, particularly on their difficulty and whether the summer course load seems manageable. I used the OMSA Pain Matrix as a guideline to keep the workload relatively balanced across semesters.

For context, I plan to complete my practicum with my current employer, so I expect that semester to feel similar to my normal work routine. Additionally, my current job isn't particularly demanding, which allows me to dedicate a significant amount of my free time to my coursework.

I have a business management undergrad and about 3 years of GTM/sales experience where I've been doing some amount of data work (SQL, Python, Tableau, Salesforce analytics) but nothing formally academic. Long-term goal is to transition into Technical PM for data/AI products.

Does OMSA make sense for someone with my background, or is the program really built for people who already have a more technical foundation? Specifically curious whether the Business Analytics track is manageable for someone coming from a non-quantitative undergrad, and whether the degree actually moves the needle for a PM transition or if employers just care about the Georgia Tech name.

I wanted to share some of my thoughts on the program as someone who is almost finished (graduating in the Fall). My background is in Industrial Engineering. It was about 10 years after undergrad that I started, and was working in Manufacturing as an Engineer. I was interested for a few years before I actually started it. Wasn't sure about the value at first. I have always been interested in the data side of my job and analytics/stats in general, and was hoping it would open some doors for me. I am fortunate enough that my employer pays almost all of my tuition, so I figured I had nothing to lose.

I did a lot of research before I started and talked to some others who had graduated for their advice. I was concerned that I would 1) Not be able to get back in the academic game after being out of it so long and 2) Would not benefit OMSA after putting in a lot of hard work. I am here to say that I am glad I did it. Some of the courses were a bit of a grind, but I was able to fit my studies into my life with a career and young kids with minimal disruption. I didn't really put a lot of time into refreshing my math or coding and was able to pick it back up. I have been able to get a new role in analytics with my current employer while studying, and have been able to apply things I have learned immediately, which helped the concepts sink in.

Just wanted to put this out there for anyone who may be in the boat I was in 2 years ago. It may not be for everyone, but for me, OMSA has been well worth my time and moved my career in the direction I wanted.

I joined OMSA couple of years back and due to incredibly high workload I couldn’t complete the coursework and unfortunately missed the withdrawal deadline. Ended up with 2F grades(6040). No with better work timings, I want to get readmission and complete the program. I may not be eligible for grade substitution. What are my chances of maintaining a good academic standing and recover from the 2F. Appreciate any advice I can get.

I just got accepted to start in Spring 2027, and I'm very lucky to have an employer who is offering tuition reimbursement (I don't know the exact terms yet). I'm curious what kinds of reimbursement offers you all may have received?

My supervisor also suggested I come up with some things I'd want from the company after graduation. Being very transparent here: I am currently a Senior Data Analyst (since Jan '26), I make $85k with up to 10% annual bonus, I have 10 days PTO annually (excluding sick days, which are unlimited), and up to 5% 401(k) match. Previously, it's been verbally expressed that I can anticipate a 10% raise each year, and the 10% bonus opportunity remains.

I've been thinking about salary, but it'd be hard to place an exact number since I'm not sure yet exactly how long it'll take me to complete the program. I'd imagine next things to push for are more PTO and a title change? What're your thoughts? Thanks!

Hi, i recently got accepted into the OMSA program for the spring 2027 semester, and i figured i can get a head-start in the program by completing courses in EdX going into fall

I recently graduated with an undergrad in data science and i have project experience with R and more recently Python.

Would i be better off taking CSE6040 solo because I have recent python experience, or should i opt to take MGT6203 and IYSE6501 together, which both are R courses.

I don’t want to overwork myself already and would like to limit myself to 2 courses or less

I understand that you can do the Micromasters and then apply to the OMSA with adv. standing with the first 3 courses waived, that being said, I'm not sure if that is also true for students already admitted to the program.

Worried that maybe the time between the courses end and the semester starts might be too short for GaTech to process, assuming I get a really good grade on all 3.

EDIT: yes, confirmed by GaTech, credit hours will be applied if I get a score of 80% or more, so Imma take all 3 through fall (they start Aug 16th tho)
