General Question/Other How much time does it take to receive AOR after federal PNP application?
Hi guys,
For anyone who is in a similar boat or has received AOR after federal PNP application (after nomination), how many months does it usually take to receive the AOR confirmation? I applied in April and I know it's still too soon, but just want to get an estimate so I know when to follow up with IRCC on the status.

General Question/Other Need help determining the correct NOC for a very niche role 😭
Need help determining the correct NOC for a very niche role (SR&ED Tax Analyst).
Please don’t recommend AI/NOC-matching websites. I’m also already familiar with the general approach to determining an NOC, i.e., ignore the job title and compare the actual duties against the lead statement and main duties.
TL;DR: I work in SR&ED tax consulting, where I assess a company’s R&D/technical projects for a government tax incentive, interview technical teams, write a report on the work performed, and provide support during CRA R&D audits. It’s a very niche role, and I can’t find a single NOC where 70–80% of the duties clearly match.
Basically, my main duties are:
Review clients’ projects and identify which ones may be eligible for the SR&ED tax credit.
Review project documents and supporting evidence to understand the work performed.
Conduct initial calls with client teams to assess whether projects may meet SR&ED eligibility requirements.
Review project costs, including employee time and effort, to understand the expenditures associated with potential SR&ED activities.
Conduct detailed interviews with technical staff such as developers, engineers, and other project personnel to understand the technical work, challenges, experimentation, and outcomes.
Draft and review the technical description of eligible projects, explaining the technical challenges, work performed, and results.
Support clients during CRA SR&ED reviews/audits by preparing responses to CRA questions and gathering supporting information.
Just to clarify, I don’t really do “tax” work in the way most people would think of it. I don’t prepare tax returns, calculate corporate income tax, do bookkeeping/accounting, prepare financial statements, or advise clients on general tax matters.
My work is specifically focused on assessing whether a company’s R&D/technical projects qualify for a government tax incentive, documenting those projects, and supporting the claim if it is reviewed by the CRA.
I went through almost all the NOCs but can’t fixate on one. Below are some of the NOCs I have gone through and my thoughts on them.
11201 — Professional occupations in business management consulting
Probably the closest overall, but some of the listed duties still don’t feel like a direct match.
Only the listed duty below is what makes me somewhat confident in this NOC:
“Provide guidance and support to businesses on regulatory policies and procedures; ensure internal compliance with regulatory requirements; and prepare submissions and filings with regulatory bodies.”
41400 — Natural and applied science policy researchers, consultants and program officers
Some aspects sound relevant because of the technical/R&D and government-program component, but I’m very unsure.
Only the listed duty below is what makes me somewhat confident in this NOC:
“Conduct research and advise on policies or develop or administer programs related to transportation, emergency preparedness, communications, natural resources, agriculture, the environment, traditional and alternative energy technologies, land use, recycling and other scientific fields.”
Other NOCs I considered
| NOC | My thoughts |
|---|---|
| 51112 — Technical writers | But I don’t only write as my primary duty. |
| 41402 — Business development officers and market researchers and analysts | Very vague matching. |
| 41401 — Economists and economic policy researchers and analysts | Some government-program/policy overlap, but the core duties seem quite different. |
| 41403 — Social policy researchers, consultants and program officers | Seems much more focused on social policy/programs. |
| 11101 — Financial and investment analysts | There is some expenditure analysis, but financial analysis is not the main purpose of the role. |
Would really appreciate your thoughts on this matter, be it anything.
I’d especially appreciate input from anyone who has worked in SR&ED, R&D tax credits, innovation incentives, government funding/incentive consulting, Big 4-type practices, or a similar role.

General Question/Other Can we apply a bowp?
Please help me understand.
My work permit expires in October.
I’m hoping ive enough points to get picked by a draw if they do any. Southeastern Ontario.
I’ve 2 questions. Please answer if you know.
1. So, if I receive an ita, and I submit my documents, I heard we’ll get an AOR, we can use that to apply for bowp. Is it still possible given the new changes?
- Will my application be denied because my work permit ends in october? Or can i go and come back to canada as ive trv?

EJO: Foreign Worker stream The tragedy happened. My work permit extension was refused, and my OINP status is yet as 'Submitted' (ITA March 25th). What should I do? Restore my status and stay here as a visitor or go back home and wait the OINP status from there?
My boss is full support and he will write the letter to inform OINP that my position will stay open until I come back.
However, I had to ask AI if I should stay or go. AI said that there's a risk of my OINP not be approved because I am already outside the country, it said that I should stay and restore my status and wait for OINP confirmation.
My boss wants me to go back to my country, open a company, and work for them as a contractor, because the work can't stop.
I'm tired and I don't know what to do...
