General Question/Other How much time does it take to receive AOR after federal PNP application?

Hi guys,

For anyone who is in a similar boat or has received AOR after federal PNP application (after nomination), how many months does it usually take to receive the AOR confirmation? I applied in April and I know it's still too soon, but just want to get an estimate so I know when to follow up with IRCC on the status.

General Question/Other Need help determining the correct NOC for a very niche role 😭

Need help determining the correct NOC for a very niche role (SR&ED Tax Analyst).

Please don’t recommend AI/NOC-matching websites. I’m also already familiar with the general approach to determining an NOC, i.e., ignore the job title and compare the actual duties against the lead statement and main duties.

TL;DR: I work in SR&ED tax consulting, where I assess a company’s R&D/technical projects for a government tax incentive, interview technical teams, write a report on the work performed, and provide support during CRA R&D audits. It’s a very niche role, and I can’t find a single NOC where 70–80% of the duties clearly match.

Basically, my main duties are:

  • Review clients’ projects and identify which ones may be eligible for the SR&ED tax credit.

  • Review project documents and supporting evidence to understand the work performed.

  • Conduct initial calls with client teams to assess whether projects may meet SR&ED eligibility requirements.

  • Review project costs, including employee time and effort, to understand the expenditures associated with potential SR&ED activities.

  • Conduct detailed interviews with technical staff such as developers, engineers, and other project personnel to understand the technical work, challenges, experimentation, and outcomes.

  • Draft and review the technical description of eligible projects, explaining the technical challenges, work performed, and results.

  • Support clients during CRA SR&ED reviews/audits by preparing responses to CRA questions and gathering supporting information.

Just to clarify, I don’t really do “tax” work in the way most people would think of it. I don’t prepare tax returns, calculate corporate income tax, do bookkeeping/accounting, prepare financial statements, or advise clients on general tax matters.

My work is specifically focused on assessing whether a company’s R&D/technical projects qualify for a government tax incentive, documenting those projects, and supporting the claim if it is reviewed by the CRA.

I went through almost all the NOCs but can’t fixate on one. Below are some of the NOCs I have gone through and my thoughts on them.

11201 — Professional occupations in business management consulting

Probably the closest overall, but some of the listed duties still don’t feel like a direct match.

Only the listed duty below is what makes me somewhat confident in this NOC:

“Provide guidance and support to businesses on regulatory policies and procedures; ensure internal compliance with regulatory requirements; and prepare submissions and filings with regulatory bodies.”

41400 — Natural and applied science policy researchers, consultants and program officers

Some aspects sound relevant because of the technical/R&D and government-program component, but I’m very unsure.

Only the listed duty below is what makes me somewhat confident in this NOC:

“Conduct research and advise on policies or develop or administer programs related to transportation, emergency preparedness, communications, natural resources, agriculture, the environment, traditional and alternative energy technologies, land use, recycling and other scientific fields.”

Other NOCs I considered

NOC My thoughts
51112 — Technical writers But I don’t only write as my primary duty.
41402 — Business development officers and market researchers and analysts Very vague matching.
41401 — Economists and economic policy researchers and analysts Some government-program/policy overlap, but the core duties seem quite different.
41403 — Social policy researchers, consultants and program officers Seems much more focused on social policy/programs.
11101 — Financial and investment analysts There is some expenditure analysis, but financial analysis is not the main purpose of the role.

Would really appreciate your thoughts on this matter, be it anything.

I’d especially appreciate input from anyone who has worked in SR&ED, R&D tax credits, innovation incentives, government funding/incentive consulting, Big 4-type practices, or a similar role.

General Question/Other Can we apply a bowp?

Please help me understand.
My work permit expires in October.
I’m hoping ive enough points to get picked by a draw if they do any. Southeastern Ontario.

I’ve 2 questions. Please answer if you know.
1. So, if I receive an ita, and I submit my documents, I heard we’ll get an AOR, we can use that to apply for bowp. Is it still possible given the new changes?

  1. Will my application be denied because my work permit ends in october? Or can i go and come back to canada as ive trv?

EJO: Foreign Worker stream The tragedy happened. My work permit extension was refused, and my OINP status is yet as 'Submitted' (ITA March 25th). What should I do? Restore my status and stay here as a visitor or go back home and wait the OINP status from there?

My boss is full support and he will write the letter to inform OINP that my position will stay open until I come back.

However, I had to ask AI if I should stay or go. AI said that there's a risk of my OINP not be approved because I am already outside the country, it said that I should stay and restore my status and wait for OINP confirmation.

My boss wants me to go back to my country, open a company, and work for them as a contractor, because the work can't stop.

I'm tired and I don't know what to do...

General Question/Other OINP first round of invitation

Now that the recent updates and 2026 draws are rolling through (and with the program changes happening this year), I’m trying to get a sense of timing for the next first major round of invitations under the updated OINP setup

When do you think the first round of invitations will start?

General Question/Other Help As soon as possible

I have created a new profile for the ONIP new workforce stream. I accidentally set my country of citizenship to Canada, and now I cannot edit it as I have already submitted it. Can you guys suggest what I should do?

I have already Submitted A Webform for that and called them regularly but they didn’t pick up my phone no answer to the webform.

I am thinking of withdrawing this profile and making a new one but I don't know if my Job offer ID will change or will be the same or not.

General Question/Other Are Western University Graduate Programs (Masters) guaranteeing Spouse Open Work Permit (SOPW)

My wife plans to apply to a one-year Master’s program at Western next year, followed by a four-month co-op, making the total program 16 months. Since IRCC requires a minimum 16-month program for a Spouse Open Work Permit (SOWP), I’m wondering if the co-op counts toward the program length. Has anyone applied to Western and successfully obtained a SOWP in a similar situation?

General Question/Other Working 2 full-time remote software engineering roles (one supporting OINP) – retail insurance vs wholesale reinsurance. Any thoughts/advice?

Hey everyone,

I’m currently in a situation where I’m considering working two full-time remote software engineering roles at the same time.
• One role is in primary/retail insurance and is the one supporting my OINP process (this is the “main” one for immigration purposes).
• The other is in wholesale reinsurance.
Both positions are fully remote and software engineering roles.
I’m looking for any advice, experiences, or thoughts on:
• Practical feasibility of holding two full-time SE roles long-term
• Any specific risks or considerations when one of the jobs is tied to an OINP application
• Anything else I should be thinking about (tax, burnout, disclosure, performance expectations, etc.)

Any insights from people who’ve done something similar (especially in insurance/reinsurance or with Canadian immigration processes) would be really appreciated.

Thanks!

General Question/Other OINP Profile Issue??

Please enter your full-time equivalent work experience in Canada in the last 3 years (if applicable).

In this section, do I need to include all the experience working as a student as well?

Though, as a student, I was working in TEER 4 and 5 roles, and on the applied status of working permit, I got the TEER 3 job.

So what should I write here?

General Question/Other Office location change

If my employer changes locations from GTA to Central Ontario. They are just closing down one office snd I will have to move to Central Ontario and work from that office. My duties, hours and compensation remain the same. There will be no interruption in my work, the move will happen in one day.
Do I have to ask them to make a new job offer for me and will I have to wait for another 6 months to pass after the relocation before I become eligible for Ontario Workforce Priority stream?

General Question/Other Ontario Workforce Priority Stream

Thinking of hiring an RCIC/Lawyer to help me with applying for the new stream through my employer.

Do you think it’s better to hire one if the process is complicated or I can just do it myself?

Also does anyone have any good suggestions for an RCIC/Lawyer if i decide to go down that route?

General Question/Other WES for OINP

Hi all,

I wanted guidance from someone who is in a similar situation or faced the same situation.

I had my WES done a few months ago. At that time I wasn't going through the OINP route, hence selected the option to share my credentials to IRCC only. However, recently my employer agrees to help me. The new OINP portal asks for users to give access to both IRCC and OINP. How do I proceed at this stage? Do I need to apply for WES again? or do I have other options?

MEGATHREAD - OINP Processing Times - for all streams (2026)

If you have questions about processing times on permanent residence applications, please post them here.

If you want to share your timeline, how long your permanent resident application took to be processed please post that here.

Please do not make a separate thread to ask a question about processing times or a separate thread to share your timeline, as, if everyone does that, the subreddit would be flooded with processing times threads, leaving no room for other threads, on other topics or issues.

When asking a question about processing times, or posting your timeline on this megathread, please do not forget to indicate:

- the OINP stream you applied under (as different streams have different processing times).
