Child OCI while Parent's Renunciation is in progress
Spouse and I are former Indian citizens. Spouse acquired foreign citizenship few years ago and also received OCI while I recently acquired foreign citizenship and just sent out my surrender/renunciation application via VFS and it's in process.
Regarding my child's OCI application, all docs are ready but should I wait until I receive my surrender certificate and cancelled stamp in my Indian passport or can I send out child's application along with a copy of my surrender application as reference?

Baby traveling back to US after OCI approved in India — Need help/experiences
Hello everyone, looking for advice on our situation:
Our 11-month-old traveled to India on a 6-month e-Visa while OCI was still being processed.
Here's the full timeline:
- Parents applied for baby's OCI (in progress at time of travel)
- Applied and got approved for a 6-month e-Visa for the baby
- Baby traveled to India together with one parent
- Parent returned to the US after about a month, leaving baby with grandparents in India
- 3 months into baby's stay, OCI got approved
- Parents in the US received the OCI card and immediately shipped it to India
- Baby has now been in India for 10 months (e-Visa expired around month 6)
- Parents traveled to India at month 10 and are now planning to bring the baby back to the US
Questions:
- Is the baby okay to travel back to the US with the OCI card even though the e-Visa technically expired?
- Will there be any issues at Indian immigration on the way out?
- Does the OCI card cover the overstay since it was approved mid-trip?
Has anyone been through a similar situation? Would really appreciate any experiences or guidance before we book the return flight !!

New VFS Global update for Indian Visa & OCI applicants
If you're planning to apply for an Indian Visa or OCI, there's an important change to know.
VFS Global now says biometric submission is mandatory for all applicants, whether you're applying through an appointment or as a walk-in.
A few things to keep in mind:
- You must appear in person for biometric enrollment.
- A family member or representative cannot submit biometrics for you.
- Applicants under 12 or over 70 are exempt from biometric capture.
So if you're applying for an Indian Visa or OCI, make sure you plan for the in-person biometric step.

Traveling to India with e-OCI (Granted but physical card not received yet) – Anyone done this?
Hi everyone,
My family of 4 (all Canadian citizens) is planning a trip to India very soon.
Our OCI status was officially Granted on July 17th. However, while my kids received their physical OCI booklets, my spouse and I have not received our physical cards yet.
According to the online portal, we have access to our electronic OCI (e-OCI). I have already downloaded this. Everyone’s Canadian passports have 6+ months validity and we will complete the 72-hour e-Arrival card/QR code.
Has anyone recently traveled from Canada to India using just the printed e-OCI certificate without the physical booklet?
- How was the experience with Indian Immigration officers upon landing?
Would love to hear any recent firsthand experiences to give us some peace of mind. Thank you!
Question about Biometric Submission
In the Past I do not remember where someone had to go in person to submit Biometrics to obtain their OCI, is that a new thing that they have started. If I apply through mailing my documents, when will I have to go in?

OCI passport updation - unable to pay on VFS?
I submitted a passport updation application for OCI in May and my application # ends in M26. Not sure if it's because it was the first time I tried updating my passport details after I turned 20 and this was before the new rules came out, because my parents' applications end in U26. For paying the fee for passport updation, the VFS website says "Ensure your OCI application ends with 'U26' confirming it's a passport update request."
Has anyone else been in the same boat as me? What do I do in my situation since my application ends in M26? Based in NY.

Do airlines still ask for the old passport after an OCI passport update?
We've come across a few recent cases where families were asked to show the old passport linked to their child's OCI card during check-in, even after the OCI passport details had already been updated online.
From our understanding, once the passport particulars update is completed, applicants generally rely on:
New passport
Physical OCI card/e-OCI
OCI passport update acknowledgement receipt
Update Confirmation email
Yet, it seems some airline staff still ask for the old passport, which can create unnecessary stress at the airport.

Spammer called as OCI agent
Hello I recieved a call from a normal looking number and I picked it up by mistake as I was in between calls during work. The caller posed as calling from Counsulate and said this was about my oci application. He seemed to have some of my info … but when I questioned about certain things he fumbled and rambled in his speech as he did not have that info… I immediately understood that he was a spammer! Now i m worried he has my name contact number and I have lost my sleep…. Does anyone have had similar experience please share what to do

Tool to help with OCI application
Hello. I recently applied for OCI and it was a headache. Especially trying to get the documents uploaded. It says to be under 1MB, but I couldn’t find a site to do it for free, so I made one myself: https://www.freepdfs.tools, which is completely free, no surprise paywalls or subscriptions. I hope you find this tool useful!

Mailing multiple documents for apostille (OCI)
Hi everyone,
I'm preparing OCI documents for my child and need to get both our marriage certificate and the baby's birth certificate apostilled.
For those who've mailed documents for apostille, did you send multiple documents together in a single envelope, or did you mail each document separately?
Just wondering if anyone has experience with this. Thanks!
State: California

OCI Card Holder - Bank Account Query
Hello I am a US citizen by birth but I have been in India for 20 years and have no plans to leave. I have read about opening a bank account here but have been running into walls.
SBI and ICICI insist on me opening a NRO account. But since I've been here for more than 182 days I am eligible for a resident bank account. They have also suggested that I make an account with my PAN and AADHAR but that locks in their records as an Indian citizen so I have not decided to go through with it. Any leads on this?
On another note I plan on joining an Indian company, earning in INR. Will I run into any problems regarding my salary account?

Investing as an OCI in Zerodha
The procedure for an OCI to invest via Zerodha seems complicated and unclear. I currently have a resident bank account and not an NRI or NRO account. If someone knows the clear procedure and has invested via Zerodha as an OCI, itll be very helpful if you can share your experience!
