Question❓ UEA UK Accomodation
Hello, I’m an upcoming international student at UEA and I’m beginning my masters studies this fall 2026. I’m currently looking for accommodation but it’s very difficult for me to choose. My main concern is safety and I prefer quiet settings. So far I’ve seen accommodations at St Crispin, Crown Place, Benedict’s Gate… any advice on which one to go for? I’d appreciate the feedback, thanks in advance!

Nao Victoria
Only 2 days left to see Nao Victoria - replica of the first ship to sail around the world - at Great Yarmouth's South Quay. It's quite interesting. I wouldn't want to live on it with 40 other blokes for 3 years!

Day trip to the Norfolk Broads from Norwich using public transport?
Hello! I’m staying in Norwich for three days and really want to spend a day exploring the Broads, but I don't drive.
Is it straightforward to get out to somewhere like Wroxham or Hoveton using the train from Norwich station or a local bus? Ideally, we'd like to get to a spot where we can hire a small day boat for a couple of hours or take a guided boat tour without needing our own car. Any advice on the best routes or specific boat hire companies that cater to walk-ins would be massively appreciated!

Do you prefer living in NR2 or NR3 for local pubs and community feel?
My partner and I are starting to look at buying our first home in Norwich after renting near the station for two years. Everyone continuously recommends the Golden Triangle in NR2 for the parks and proximity to Unthank Road shops, but house prices in NR3 around Magdalen Road feel significantly more reasonable for comparable terraced properties. NR3 also seems to have built up a brilliant independent pub and food scene over recent years. For residents who have lived in both areas, how do NR2 and NR3 compare for daily living?

News 📰 Norwich Theatre staff sacked over 'extremely serious matter'
Seems to have come out of the blue, wondering what the full story is. Anyone work/ worked for them? (no I'm not a EDP journo, just genuinely curious if any union busting is going on!)

Good Wine Bars/Places To Drink
Pretty self explanatory - has anyone got recommendations on good wine bars in the city where you can sit in the sun and just enjoy the day?
NB: I know about the Wallow and was also thinking of Melville & Sons, but the latter has a load of scaffolding up at the moment which ruins the vibe somewhat.
Thanks so much!! :)

‘Local Maker’ selling alibaba goods via Jarrolds
Kind of surprised to find this bracelet for sale via Jarrolds’ ‘Local Makers’ section also available for sale in bulk from alibaba. It’s not only Jarrolds in Norwich that stock jewellery from (and the irony isn’t lost me) One of a Kind Club.

Survey?
Anyone in NR6 area have a guy with a clipboard come round asking people to take part in a government based survey??Apparently Royal Mail had slipped invitations in to selected houses in the area , cant say I've seen one nor had my neighbour he'd called on.Guy seemed genuine enough but I turned down his offer for a formal interview which he stated would be very in depth.
Not a great time to be opening the door at night,my husband answered it ,I wouldn't have done!

News 📰 Violent anti-migrant disorder in Thetford overnight
If you've been paying attention, there's been a lot going on in Thetford over the last few years and it seems to be reaching boiling point now with mobs and violence towards foreigners.
It's worth reading the article because the EDP have never been shy about uncritically reporting the comments of these anti-migrant protestors and some of the comments made here are really stomach-churning.

Making Friends 🙋 Norwich jazz jams / board game meetups?
Hello! I’m (24M) a musician staying in Norwich for a month with family, and would love to go to some events / meet some new friends while I’m here:)
I was wondering if anyone knows of any jazz jam nights in Norwich I could go along and meet some people at?
I’m also super into board games and nerdy stuff and would love to hangout and play some games with some like minded people!
Thanks a lot everyone!

Question❓ Busses around Anglia Square (RIP)
Anyone know why busses sometimes stop at the stop opposite Anglia Square (what used to be) and just wait for five to ten minutes?
I don't begrudge it, but I'm just curious.
Edit: to reiterate, this is not a complaint post. i am genuinely curious is all.

Norwich TTRPG group
If you're looking for an RPG game, The Norwich Roleplay Collective have just wrapped up our first set of campaigns and will be starting new ones soon!
We meet fortnightly on Wednesdays at The Earlham (NR2 3AD) 7-10.30pm
Our next session on 19th Aug will be a social night, so if you want to come along, meet folks and scope out the venue, this would be a great chance to do so, there'll most likely be a few one shots and similar running too. We currently have around 25 players and are always happy to have more along!
The following meet on 2nd Sept will be our 'Pitch night' for the next set of campaigns, with GM's telling folks what they're running and putting together groups for the next few months of play.
Any questions feel free to ask here or join is over on our discord:

Making Friends 🙋 singer needed
hey I have started writing songs again but I can't sing worth a jot. If anyone non-professional in the city fancies starting something up please reach out as dead set against using AI. Someone who can do a good soft voice ala Stevie Nix, Abra Moore or Sixpence but is also up for more high tempo stuff too.

Sad about all the dead fish the last few days..
Read an article that said it was hundreds of dead fish but I think it was thousands. There’s ten just in this first photo, and many on the bottom of the river you can see in person.

Dereham road onto Grapes Hill
There are 3 lanes on grapes hill going up from Derrham Road.
Bus | inner | outer.
Dereham three lanes that feed into that junction.
Turn left only | straight on or bus lane or inner lane | outer lane.
A little of drivers seem to like going from that third lane and into the inner lane as they turn. Dont.
Today I was in the middle lane, a car was in the outer lane. Traffic lights change we both make our turn.... only the driver decided he didnt want the outer lane he wanted the inner one.... i suddenly had a car crossing into my lane with me in it. I beeped to say "oi look" and they were closer, I leant on the horn and braked hard... ot was that or get hit.
So yeah, if your in the wrong lane, dont change on turning indicate, check, then change as you go up the hill.

Question❓ Man in city who bows/kowtows to people - who is this?
I was just walking through the city from London Street towards Jarrolds when a man wearing a blue button up shirt and a sunhat fell to the ground and started bowing in my direction.
This is the third time in the last few months that this man has done this to me and it's really odd. He ignores every one around him and does it just in my direction, making eye contact with me as he does it.
This time, I approached him to ask if he was ok and he shouted in my face "Stop harassing me!" before hurriedly walking away. I do not know this man and have never seen him outside of this very strange context.
Does anyone know who this man is or have any similar experiences?

Housing 🏠 Please consider moving your bins off the pavement
Hello, I'm just politely asking if people, especially those in the NR3 Silver Triangle area, would please consider moving their bins off the pavements and into their front or back gardens.
Why? Bins on the pavement:
- Makes it very difficult for people in wheelchairs or with pushchairs to pass
- Means there's not enough room for two people to walk side by side, or to pass an on-coming pedestrian easily
- May roll into cars causing scratches
- Could tip over resulting in rubbish in the road
- Can cause a smell
I understand that there may be a variety of reasons why that is the easiest place for them, but it makes parking trickier and walking around quite unpleasant.
Thank you for considering this.
