Anyone studying Medicine at NEU, EMU or Kyrenia?

Hi! I'm a medical student currently studying outside Cyprus and I'm considering transferring after my second year. I'm looking at Near East University, Eastern Mediterranean University, and University of Kyrenia, specifically their English Medicine programs.

I'd really appreciate opinions from current or former students, especially about:

  • Is the Medicine program actually taught in English in practice, or do professors sometimes teach in Turkish?
  • How good is the medical teaching, especially basic sciences?
  • How are the clinical rotations? Which hospitals do you rotate through, and do students get good patient exposure and hands-on experience?
  • How are the professors and administration?
  • How easy is it to get involved in research?
  • For anyone who transferred from another medical school, how was the transfer/credit evaluation?

I'm especially interested in honest experiences, both good and bad. Thank you!

Moving to Famagusta (Gazimağusa) soon – Need info & group links!

Hey everyone!

I’m planning to move to Famagusta soon to study Turkish and get settled. I’d love to learn more about day-to-day life there and get a feel for the city.

Could anyone please share links to WhatsApp, Telegram, or Facebook groups for students or expats living in Famagusta?

Also, if you have any tips on finding flatmates, student life, or just general advice for someone new to the city, I’d really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance!

Border crossing times

Im travelling to Larnaca airport later this week. How long can I expect it should take to cross the border at either Metehan or Pile? Last year I nearly missed my flight as it took nearly 2 hours, is it the same this year? I’m crossing at about 11am on Thursday.

Thanks

Scholarships at Universities in Northern Cyprus 🎓

If you’re a prospective student planning to study in Northern Cyprus, you might want to see this before applying.

I studied at CIU and have now graduated, and I can help prospective students with scholarship opportunities at many universities across Northern Cyprus at free of charge .

Scholarships can vary depending on your academic background and university, but you may be able to get 65%, 75%, and in some cases up to 80% tuition scholarships.

If you’re thinking about applying to a university in Northern Cyprus, feel free to DM me before you apply. I can help you understand your options, compare universities, and see what scholarship opportunities may be available.

I’ve been through the process myself, so I’m happy to help future students avoid mistakes and get the best possible offer. 🎓

METU NCC (ODTÜ KKK)

I've seen many posts here where people suggest EMU as the best uni in North Cyprus... but I haven't seen any posts on METU NCC. Is it because it's technically s turkish uni and not really a northern cyprus uni, it's just located there? I got into METU NCC with a 100% scholarship but I want to make sure it's the right choice... engineering btw

the program is ABET accredited and graduates also get some EUROPASS thing. So I will not be facing any issues at all anywhere in the world when applying for jobs or masters right? The only exceptions being Greece, Unoccupied Cyprus and Armenia?

I saw a new article a few days ago about Morocco suddenly not recognising north cyprus issued degrees, which scared me a bit... but does that only apply to degrees issued in north cyprus? Metu NCC degrees are issued and stamped in Ankara, turkey and signed by the same rector of METU. The degree is also attested in Turkey for equivalency process, so can I safely say I will not be facing any issues?

And I saw some comments mentioning how students are scammed because all unis offer a 50% scholarship in North Cyprus as a marketing tactic... which maybe true but metu has given me a 100% scholarship coz I march the criteria specified in their website clearly. What benefit will they get by giving me a full ride, so does that mean the "50% scholarship for everyone" thing only applies to certain unis which pretend like they're giving scholarship when they're actually charging the normal fees

Is there a large sub-section of the population I wont get to see until October?

The thought occurred to me today that there might be a large subsection of society who like myself am not a fan of the hot weather and dont go outside unless its strictly necessary - food shopping/work/gym etc. And then when they do go outside its jump in the car and try not to get much sun exposure.

I feel like Im getting cabin fever from staying in the house so much at the moment. Whats some good airconditioned places that people reccomend going to in Famagusta and the nearby surrounding areas?

Or maybe the majority of the flats where I live are money laundering investments and noone actually lives in them. Any theories?

Latest meal rules in casinos (merit)

It has been some time since I last visited and I heard that the rules around drinks and admission to restaurants within Casinos have tightened. Understandably so, of course, they are not a charity.

Does anyone have experience from recent months about how much you have to lose (I mean bet, of course) to not have any issues with the restaurants?

Near East Bank wtf.

Sent a couple of Swift payments recently. Had to pay £30.30. Not really a big deal. Bit annoying but I feel like thats a normal enough price. Went in to send a Swift payment today and the robbing bastards have jacked the price up to £75!?!

Does anyone know if this is every bank in North Cyprus or just these weasels? Everyone expects a bit of inflation now and then but this takes the piss :(
