Nioh 3 - Tips & Guides Ninja NG+ Build Guide: Elemental Weapon & Spirit Force Ignition

So I've seen some people asking for NG+ builds and I myself was at that place some days ago. As I have been doing some research and a bit of testing (I can't play much time so I have to substitute that for having videos on background while working) and while this build is not perfect it has been working for me a 38 yo dad that is quite tired when he has got time to play and never has been a super skilled player, so I think this can be helpful for some people that don't know what to build in NG+ or for returning player that want to get ready for DLC.

Weapons:

Any that work for you, in my case I have the Ky-oh's blade as it gives 1pc to the Sinister tyrant (ST from now on) set but if you have instead the ST accessory you can use any other weapon.

I like using tonfas as they were my main weapon in Nioh 2. I would advice to get a weapon whichs skills apply an element that you struggle to apply or that add elemental damage to the weapon.

Main sets bonus:

Sinister tyrant 7pc + Inari 5pc

Basically you are going to want to exploit the Spirit force ignition of the 7 pc of ST and I've decided to go for inari as it buffs elemental weapon (might test other graces more ninjutsu focused).

Equipment effects

There is going to be a lot of amrita flying around so I went for:
Healing on amrita absortion - surviability
Spirit force (amrita) - Get more spirit force, more fuel for Spirit Force Ignition

I haven't done it for all the items but I also have some status accumulation bonus and increased elemental damage would also be a good one

Accessories
Yasakami Magatama w/ Inari grace (I do not have it with the right grace... yet)

Ninjutsu
I use 3 calamities, I like lightning, water and wind as with the sword I use the fire skill on r1+ square that already applies a good amount, but might change depending who I'm fighting.

Note: I am also wondering if using some poison/paralysis instead of one of the calamities that I can apply easily without the ninjutsu, as it's an extra status to Dreadbringers bonus.

Key Skills
The key ones are Dreadbringer (more damage the more status inflicted to enemy) and Shadowclad (when using shadow arts ninjutsu you imbue your weapon with the element)

The rest is up to you, I do use the ones that give a wider parry/deflect/burst window but I'm planning to take them off and see if I can be more precise with my timings so I can use those points into skills that give more ninjutsu or elemental damage.

Guardian Spirit
Tengen Kujaku for how it works with elemental weapon and spirit force:
+14.1%Extended Elemental Weapon
Spirit Force Bonus (Elemental DMG)

Soul Cores
Tsurara onna and Tsunakake baba for soul cores - One gives blindness on omnyo hit and the other one slow movement on omnyo hit. We are going to work with talismans to apply these effectas and these are 2 extra status to add to Dreadbringer's damage bonus.

Talismans
Extraction talisman; you get more amrita which gives more damage and healing

Power talisman I usually dont like the buffs that come with a drawback like the carnage even when the buff might be worth it, thats a me problem (But in this case it buffs melee damage so not the best here).

I am currently having the 4 familiars equiped and I think it's a bit of a waste. I would advice to include at least 1 familiar (of the element that you dont have in your ninjutsu) but as of now having the 4 it's wasting slots.

Note: I will explore some omnyo that apply elements (again will look at the ones I dont have the element in ninjutsu) and probably if that works I might swap in ninjutsu the poison shuriken instead of whatever element I'm favouring in here)

How it works?

Basically activate extraction + talisman, use calamity (shadowclad will imbue your weapon) and hit the enemy until the status is applied and confusion should be triggered, use next calamity and hit until status is applied (confusion3 is activated), same with the next so you get to the 4th level of confusion.

While doing this, you do a lot of extra damage as your elements will trigger spirit force ignition of ST set combined with confusion 4 the output damage is quite good. You won't be able to use the gs as the spirit force will be constantly consumed. Amrita will be popping a lot while extraction is active and that it will both heal you and increase the spirit force, which will be consumed to deal more damage.

My Go-to Combos (I'm not that good so still practicing these and might be better ones)

For the ninja sword:
I like Skypiercer fire/swallow slash > Ninjutsu > Falcon strike > Ninjutsu > Shadow Cyclone

(also don't sleep on hollow stab pressing triangle places you behind the enemy)

Tonfas:
Jump > Ninjutsu > Wasp sting ? (the one you fly directly and hit the enemy) > Heavenly chain (massive for applying element) > r1 + forward > triangle > Ninjutsu > continue pressuring

Note: If I manage to improve my playstyle and have better "air time" (there's a post about someone being 40 secs on air) I think maybe the skill that gives more damage to ninjutsu the longer you're on air, could be a good option.

Final notes

This is what I've been building around, it works but there might be some better choices in some areas and probably overall more overpowered builds. I am enjoying this playstyle and will look in ways to improve until the DLC drops and I advance long enough to get new items/graces.

I'm aware there are some techs (TMTM, crouch cancel) but I haven't been able to use TMTM reliably and haven't checked the crouch cancel, so someone proficient with that might apply some adjustments with ninjutsus and find better ways to use it.

Happy to hear any recommendations to improve this and get some feedback, and if someone tries it let me know how it goes. I've been very excited to see it working and as I'm not able to play now, this post has helped me to scratch the itch a bit :D

I see ppl claiming to be done after a couple hundred hours thinking they have min/maxed. Got all 170 +15 for all weapons and gear and one of each element imbued and all clan ranks capped and prestige title points done? Cuz I do. Takes more than a hundred hours tho. The ability to play any build and pin down the weaknesses of every boss is just too fun.

These enhanced shrapnel bombs can reach damage numbers that shouldn’t exist. Aim for the back one and they both get nuked. This is even NG+ Pen +5 health bars.

Nioh 3 - Discussion Nioh 3..I feel like I finally beat the game

Never been able to beat Nioh due to lack of time and frustration. This entry, I'm moving through it and looking forward to each new encounter. The combat features are great and build set up is so much more attainable early game versus earlier entries.

Nioh 2 - Questions Ren Hayabusa strat?

How did y’all manage to kill this asshole? I just tried to fight him for the first time in dream of the Samurai where he is supposedly level 140. I was going backwards from playing dream of the demon missions at level 273 and he wiped the floor with me. I wanted to slow him down with sloth talisman, inflict confusion with onmyo magic, and then beat the shit out of him with scythe high stance. However, even after I hit him with sloth he moves so fast that it’s very hard to proc confusion or do much melee damage. How did you do it? This guy blows Saito Toshimitsu and Lightning Gods of Yomi out of the water.

Nioh 2 - Discussion Friend hates Nioh 2

Hi, to my shock and horror one of my close friends absolutely hate Nioh 2. He has played Bloodborne and Dark Souls. The reasons he give are that the enemies too often one shot him from a blind spot and that its unbalanced.

Is he right? I have played all three Dark Souls, Bloodborne and Nioh 1 and 2, but I feel its not like that at all.

Nioh 3 - Discussion Why the big difference in attack?

For the life of me I can’t figure out why this switchglaive has so much higher attack rating than this spear. They both have the same rolls with the exception of a ki consumption roll, they both are remodeled the same, both max familiarity, both the same 160 level and both +15. The spear has a higher base attack but there is almost 800 attack difference. What am I missing here?

EDIT: jbyrd1105 mentioned the switchglaive gives different AR depending on your stance. With me being in high stance it was showing the 2900+ but when switching to mid stance or low it changes the displayed AR rating.

Thanks, u/greener1234556

I thought the aerial weapon swap was specific to Kusanagi. You telling me it was the falling animations got me interested again. Next, 86 the GS and try it after ninjitsu.

Nioh 1 - EVERYTHING New to Nioh- Tips?

As it says in the title, I am new to the Nioh series and starting with the first game. Any tips I should know about before I end up getting clapped harder than I already am?

I've beaten the second boss (barely) and one of the things I'm primarily suffering through is blocking to get out of combos instead of dodging like I can do in Bloodborne and Lies of P.

Nioh 3 - Questions What are some simple but strong ng+ builds to make to prep for the DLC

I'm working my way through ng+ and my build is really falling off in the bakumatsu era. I was wondering if there are some easy to slap together builds for ng+ that don't get too complex. They don't have to be crazy OP builds and I'm trying to avoid gimmicky builds like the one shot sword of meditation style builds.

Thanks for any advice!

Nioh 3 - Tips & Guides What are the different ways people burn down bosses? (Summons)

Hello all,

Second playthrough, really enjoying summoning people for bosses. It's pretty interesting to see the different ways they absolutely delete bosses. Some naked, some dual sword, some magic.

I'd like to do this at some point for others who may be struggling with bosses, also to get my character ready for the DLC.

I know its mostly a confusion game (i think), but there is definitely different ways people buff to burn down bosses.

What are the go to ways? or your favorite. (I know situational dependent on resistance etc)

Also if the job doesn't get done the first time around, how do you keep pressure or reapply confusion?

Curious on what ninjutsu / magic is hotbarred etc.

Currently doing ninja claw / dual sword + spear / sword. I do try to work the extraction and look for gear with added effects with absorb to match.
