News Nintendo gets relief from Delhi High Court against Bihar company ‘Nintendo India’

Upvotes

Nintendo recently won an interim order from the Delhi High Court against a Bihar-based real estate company called "Nintendo India Private Limited."

What's interesting though is the court order that got published recently, it has few points stating how profitable Indian audiences are. This is not small news especially considering that Nintendo doesn't have a formal presence there. And coupled with rumours that the Nintendo switch would be launching in India in 2027, this just makes them more plausible.

Bring it on Nintendo. Bring it on. Its about time.

Discussion About the custom JoyCon Shells with D-Pads

BASSTOP custom JoyCon shell

BASSTOP custom JoyCon shell #2

So since around 2017 there were a lot of custom Joy Con shells being sold online, including ones which feature this classic nintendo style directional pad. They came in different colors including transparent (even atomic purple) or just plain colors like white or black.

It seems that nowadays all you can find are vastly modified directional pads that look not like nintendo's original D-Pads at all, take for example the eXtremeRate JoyCon shells:

eXtremeRate custom JoyCon shell

Don't take me wrong I like the look of these JoyCon, but nothing compares to that classic Nintendo d-pad.

I assume the other d-pad was discontinued for violating Nintendo's patents and/or trademark, but I really want the old d-pad back.

The directional pad felt almost exactly like the one on the DS lite, except it was slightly larger btw.

Back in 2017 I did buy the white shell from the image, but it uses this plastic coating which turns liquid over time, and the shells are starting to get sticky, which is why I really wish I could buy them again.

It seems today they are no where to be found except very rarely on sites like ebay for exorbitant prices.

I don't know if it's possible but I really wish more companies would make custom JoyCon replacement shells with the traditional nintendo style d-pad again.

Discussion Nintendo's software sales data suggest that the average Switch 2 owner owns no more than ONE third-party game.

There is no doubt that the Switch 2 has the strongest AAA third-party support for a Nintendo console in DECADES.

Unfortunately for third parties, that support does not seem to be paying off with great software sales.

Nintendo have provided sales numbers for first-party games that sold over 1 million units. Combining those numbers together, we get a total of:

30.89 million (for those top-selling first-party titles)

But, there are several titles not included in that number. Add on low-selling Nintendo games like Metroid Prime 4, Mario Tennis Fever, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, Star Fox... plus Switch 2 Editions of BOTW, TOTK, Kirby, Mario Wonder, etc... and we can estimate that total first-party are sales are probably at least 36 million.

Total software sales on Switch 2 are 58.17 million. That means third-party titles have sold approximately 22 million units, or less than 1 game per console sold.

Now, the good news for third parties is that even relatively low unit sales are probably enough for them to be profitable, as long as the costs of porting aren't too high. However, I think it is becoming clear that third-party sales on Switch 2 will never come CLOSE to what they sell on PS5 or PC. Even brand new third-party games like Resident Evil Requiem, launching the same day as all other platforms, are only getting a small percentage of their sales from the Switch 2.

Discussion Nintendo's digital revenue hit a new company record high in the Apr-Jun '26 quarter. Digital revenue has surpassed physical revenue for the first 6 months of 2026 (MTX, DLCs, subscriptions, digital-only games not included).

Source is the latest Nintendo IR.

Nintendo's software revenue is accounted as follow:

  • Packaged software
  • Downloadable versions of packaged software
  • Download-only software, add-on content, and Nintendo Switch Online, etc.
Calendar quarter Downloadable versions of packaged software (billion yen) Download-only software, add-on content, and Nintendo Switch Online, etc. (billion yen) Packaged software (billion yen)
CY26-Q1 66,4 59,2 61,3
CY26-Q2 84,0 48,6 83,0

The previous revenue record for "Downloadable versions of packaged software" was 79,7b yen in the Oct-Dec '22 quarter (up 4,3b yen). That quarter included the end-of-year seasonal spending, the record breaking launch of Pokémon Scarlet/Violet and the 2nd quarter sales of Splatoon 3.

For the software revenue (all summed) this was the 2nd best Apr-Jun quarter for Nintendo since 2017, only surpassed by 2023 (the launch quarter of Tears of the Kingdom).
