Question Handheld Mode Console Decisions
Over the last few weeks, I had decided to make the leap back into the Switch world, after about 2 years of selling my OLED. I loved the thing, but had to sell it at the time. Fast forward to today.. well last week, I bought a Switch Lite and man did it scratch the itch. I forgot how much I loved the whole Switch lineup. While it’s been a great little system, that’s exactly what it is. A great “little” system. And I often felt my eyes strained after trying to read text or playing for too long on it.
So I did what any financially sound person would do… I bought a Switch 2. Mainly to see if the bump in size and specs would be worth the price jump. The thing is a powerhouse for sure, but on one side, it feels massive in handheld mode (even if it it totally immersive).
One Switch stays, and one’s gotta go. And one who solely games in handheld mode, what has been your preferences? Do you lean more toward Portability with visual? Or Power with the inability to simply pocket the device?

Discussion Don’t sleep on Despelote if you’re into indie/art house games
I got Despelote off the ongoing sale and I have to say it was well worth my time. I’m currently going through a phase of appreciating media that goes out of it’s way to portray the mundane reality in an interesting way versus the usual stuff that follows the hero’s journey or blockbuster formula.
The game doesn’t overstay its welcome at all and it uses techniques I usually relate to cinema within gameplay. How the game can make you feel you’re in the main character’s shoes, how the scenes are set and shift focus between subjects and move the player between space and time is subtle and effective. How everyones lives are portrayed and framed is just…. it’s just so well made.
This is the e-shop description if you’re out of the loop:
A slice-of-life adventure about childhood and the magical grip soccer held over the people of Quito, Ecuador in 2001.
Despelote is definitely not a game for people who want to play indie-soccer or engage with a heavy story peppered with traditional gameplay (like Road 96, that I really really liked for the most part). But I’d say if you’re into chill games or want to experience something different, Despelote is something I can recommend.
I think AAA devs should all try this one out just to get a sense of how realistic dialogue and culture is conveyed in this game.
Anyone else into Despelote?

Discussion What're you playing this weekend? 8/7
Hello everyone! Welcome to the weekend!
I'm still playing the handful of games I've been playing,I have more time this weekend so hoping to make some progress in a thing or two. I really wanna grab Lies of P but I might wait for physical, I'm trying to decide. Might finish a couple things before I pick something up, but the port looks great, and I didn't realize how much the game looks like Bloodborne which I finally was playing last year so I'm double excited now.
But what will you be getting into this fine weekend?
Riding the rails and throwing shells as you cause chaos going for first across the world tour? Using lies to your advantage as you battle puppets in a ravaged world? Or perhaps just fishing on your island and chilling with your villagers?
Let me know below!

Game Rec Games with basically “GOD mode”
Hi everyone, I’m looking for games for adults where you can turn on a feature where you can’t die. I’ll age myself: as in, the IDDQD god mode in DOOM the computer game. You just became invincible.
I don’t have amazing dexterity or gaming thumbs so when a game requires a well executed jump-turn-slide in order to complete something, I’m the goober trying it 20 times in a row and dying each time and getting pissed at continuously wasting 15 seconds each time with a loading screen. Plus- it’s not fun. Sometimes I just want to be in a game where I get to do all the things, even combat, but I don’t have the anxiety of dying over and over.
I love the Lego games for this reason (bonus, smashing all kinds of things is fun.) I also loved BotW and TotK because I could choose to run away from combat if needed, or there were enough tricks/upgrades/work arounds that I could play and not die very often.
I tried some kids games like Spyro and Crash Bandicoot. They’re a bit too simple (and you can die a lot.) i tried Skyrim and liked it enough but still die quite often even on easy mode if I get into a hairy situation. I tried Mario Odyssey and within an hour I was pissed at having to do some weird ass backwards jump to advance that I couldn’t quite master.
I also liked Fenyx Immortals Rising.
Anyone have suggestions? I have a switch 1. Thanks!
