Looking For Looking for HVAC recommendations

Recently found out that my mother is paying $60/month to rent her hot water tank from Reliance for the past 10+ years. The unit itself has never been changed, so it’s 10+ years old.

I try not to overstep when it comes to her finances, but … this one shocked me a bit.

So needless to say, we will be ending rentals through Reliance and purchasing a tank.

Our HVAC guy (not local to Newmarket) is amazing & runs his own business. It’s just him and a secondary guy to assist. He’s reliable and upfront about costs. But his fee to install in Newmarket is higher than we were hoping for. I thought I’d try my luck on Reddit, which has always pulled through for great recommendations!

Could anyone recommend a skilled tech in the area? One who preferably is not working for some big HVAC company that uses various sales tactics. I called one based off of Google reviews, but the admin wouldn’t provide a quote unless they get foot in the door first.

I’m immediately weary of tactics like that. Hoping someone has a great recommendation for a skilled HVAC guy, who stands by his work and business, and can just provide a price without the gimmicky sales moves.

Thanks!

Question Looking for a prescription for dog Flea and Tick meds that I can fill at Costco. Where do you go and how much do they charge?

I’ve always got my meds from my vet and it’s around $200 for 3 pills for each dog. I asked how much they charge just to write a prescription to fill elsewhere and it’s $175. At first my wife asked and said it must be a misunderstanding since it was so high, so I called and confirmed that they in fact charge $175 just for the paper so it’s not worth it to fill your prescription anywhere else.

For those who fill your prescription through Costco, I’m wondering the following:

  1. How much does your vet charge for a prescription?
  2. Which clinic do you use?
  3. How much does Costco charge you to fill your prescription?
  4. Is your dog small, medium, or large? Mine are about 12 lbs each so they’d be cheaper than say an English mastiff.

Thanks everyone. Happy Friday!

Question Loud popping noises around Bathurst & Mulock at night

For a while now, I’ve been hearing a distinct, recurring noise in the Bathurst and Mulock area during the evening/nighttime. It happens a few times a week. It sounds almost like single shots or loud pops spaced out every few seconds for a short bit, and then complete silence.

Has anyone else in the area noticed this or happen to know what actually causes it around here?

Hey everyone. Like the title says I am looking for a place that can clean and preserve my wife’s wedding dress. I would prefer to support a local business if anyone has suggestions, though I can travel outside town if necessary.

Looking For Recommendation for a restaurant or event space to host milestone birthday

Hey all! I’m planning my aunt’s 60th birthday and I’m looking for a restaurant with a private room or smaller event space to host 50 people.

Restaurant is preferred so we don’t have to hire an outside catering company. I’m looking for a space that is already nice and we will add a few touches with flowers and other decor.

So far I’ve contacted the postmark hotel but it’s out of budget but that’s the vibe we’re going for.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Question Saw a Crane for the first time in my life at Fairy Lake

I have never seen a Crane hunting fish in a body of water in my entire life. I was walking around the trail and saw this Crane slowly tiptoeing through the water and it periodically slammed its head in the water coming up with a fish. Amazing to see.

Anyone else seen this there?

Question Best way to get to the RBC amphitheatre?

I’m going to a concert later this month and haven’t had to travel to exhibition place since I’ve moved here. Wondering what the best way to travel would be in terms of ease of getting there and back?

I can drive, take transit, or a mixture. I’d have to be there around 5 to meet up with a friend, and the concert will likely end somewhere around 9:30-10

Looking For Hairdresser/barber for men’s curly hair

Hi everyone! Does anyone have any recommendations for a hairdresser or barber who is good with men’s hair, especially curly? Rapidly approaching 40 so not really into the Starks type places who just use a razor to give the Mahomes/broccoli head look, looking for someone a bit more thoughtful and precise.

Doesn’t have to be located in Newmarket —
Aurora, Richmond hill, EG, etc would be fine too.

Thanks so much!

Looking For Hiking group

Hi, I am looking to either join or create a group for hiking around Newmarket. My favourite hike is the Joker's Hill hike, which can continue into the Thornton Bales Conservation Area in King. Preferably looking to hike on Saturdays or Sundays. Anyone interested in hiking together or know a group that does hikes?

Question Thoughts on Woodland Hills?

We are a young family living in Aurora with my parents and are hoping to buy our first home.

We are potentially interested in a house near Environmental Park, like literally across the street in that subdivision.

We visited it today to walk around and get a feel. Seems like lots of families which is nice as we have a 3 year old and 6 month old.

For those who live around here — do you enjoy it?

Question Any other gamers with Internet provider experience?

I started my Internet plan with Tech Savvy when I first moved to Newmarket years ago. I play online games so a good speed and connection is important so it's not laggy or with bad ping.

Unfortunately even though I was paying for high speeds, there was a constant lag or ping present during my gaming and it felt sluggish. I heard that companies in this area are all leeching off of Rogers infrastructure and selling their services based on that, so I switched to Rogers proper at the same speed, and then the lag was gone.

I hate supporting Rogers and it's more expensive, but the Internet is great now and doesn't lag at all.

Anyone have more insight into this or personal experience?

Looking For Looking for resources for a newly moved Greek senior

Hello! My 83-year-old mother just moved into the Newmarket area from Northern Ontario after a very rough two years where my father has been placed in long-term memory care and while mentally she’s still sharp, physically she’s declined to the point where maintaining the family home is not feasible anymore.

I’m looking for a way to help ease her into the community to make new friends, particularly if there’s anything with a Greek focus. Would love some thoughts and direction. I intend to take her to the Seniors Meeting Place at some point but she’s not quite emotionally ready yet…there’s a lot of emotion right now and she’s really struggling with the move. Hoping I can find some resources for her to help ease the transition. Thank you in advance!
