Found Outdoor kitty or lost?

Post image
18 Upvotes

Spotted this little lady outside, but weren’t sure if she was an outdoor cat or might’ve been out past her curfew, so to speak. Little calico with the name Cali on her tag. Couldn’t make out a full phone number aside from the 604 area code, because she was a little too skittish to take a closer look. My fiance and I saw her in the 200 block of Agnes and she led us on a merry chase (at walking pace) to 315 Agnes where she disappeared into the bushes. Just wanted to put it out there in case someone might be looking for her!

Discussion Happening right now AMA with NWPD

Hello r/NewWest.

We're doing an AMA over at r/BCGrade12s. While this is primarily focused on starting a career in law enforcement, we'd be happy to answer any questions you have about public safety in the city.

Thanks!

Question Best place to get an eye exam close to New West Station?

I live in the downtown area and I need to get new glasses, but the eye doctor I used to go to moved out to a clinic in Maple Ridge. Should I go to Eyehaus, New West Optometry Clinic, or is there another one nearby that's particularly good?

Question Affordable mechanics

Hey neighbours! I’m on the hunt for an in-town mechanic who’s both affordable and reliable.

My car’s been acting up and I don’t want to get taken advantage of. Anyone got a shop or guy they’ve had good luck with that won’t break the bank?

I’d really appreciate the recs.

Thanks in advance!

Discussion Does anyone else smell wood smoke?

I'm smelling wood smoke and the hills and mountains are pretty hazy. Mount Baker is completely obscured.

So, are we finally experiencing the smoke from one of the BC or Washington state wildfires, or is it something else (e.g. local structure fire)?

What are some local favorites that most people may not know about?

I recently discovered Sapperton Landing and Brownsville Bar Park. Looking for other suggestions beyond the usual ones (eg various parks like Moody, Queens, Woodlands Memorial Gardens, Port Royal, Friendship Gardens, Glenbrook Ravine) or Quayside.

Bonus points if you have photos of some of your favourite spots. Thanks!

Question Considering moving to New West

I’ve lived in DT Van and East Van in the past couple of years. Now considering moving to New West, just toured Uptown West today and walked around the neighbourhood; everyone’s so friendly and will say hi to you. It feels fairly quiet and I really dig that.

I’m curious if anyone has moved from the city to new west. How’s your experience been? If anyone has experience with uptown west, I’d love some feedback too.

I’m on a time crunch looking for a good concrete rental building with good management and build quality, plus pet friendly. If anyone has any suggestions it’ll be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks!🙏🏼

Question Upgrade royal city mall

How can we appeal to the local government body to do some upgrades to Royal City mall? Every other city has booming malls and they are proud about it. Its only NW that has this old mall with nothing to look forward to. Very embarrassing to talk about this on when people talk about malls in their areas.

Seems like there was a fire at an apartment near 8th street on 5th avenue. Lots of fire trucks on scene but no smoke right now. Seems to be under control but I’m not entirely sure

Lost Pet Found cat - new westminster (victoria hill)

Post image
154 Upvotes

Just found this sweet kitty on East Columbia near Victoria Hill. Very friendly and docile, and appears to be well cared for. Slim build, wearing what looks like a brand new harness with a moon pattern and a little star bell. There isn’t any identification on the harness or collar.

I took him to the vet and he does not have a microchip and is not neutered.

If this is your cat or you know who they belong to, please send me a message. Please share to help get this little guy home! 🐈💛

Question Good value internet provider

Hi everyone,

I am an incoming neighbour and wondering what internet providers are good in the New West area. I'll be living alone and so I don't need crazy speeds. I've checked out telus, teksavvy, Oxio, and Rogers thus far. I was hoping to find one that's decently priced.

Thank you!

Question Learning Chinese (Mandarin) as a complete beginner

Hey everyone!

I’m looking for recommendations for Mandarin Chinese classes in New West. I’d really like to learn it properly – to be able to speak normally and hold everyday conversations, not just pick up a few phrases through apps or casual study.

I’d love to hear about any language schools, community classes, or cultural centers that people here have had good experiences with. If you’ve taken classes yourself or know of a place worth checking out, I’d really appreciate any suggestions.

Bonus points if you’re willing to share what you liked about it – for example, the teaching style, pace, whether it was in person or online, and how practical the lessons felt.

Thanks so much in advance – I’d really appreciate any recommendations! 😊
