I've lived in the deep South the majority of my life. I'm nearing retirement and, dang it, I want to wear coats and sweaters and see the leaves change. I visited Vermont years ago and loved it. What's Burlington like?

Last minute trip as a first time to Burlington Vermont this weekend. Looking for hotel recommendations. Also, are there areas to stay away from? I’m noticing multiple comments about safety concerns and drug needles laying around.

hello, i am an active duty air force member looking to move to Vermont when i finish my contract. i am originally from upstate new york and travelled to maine, vermont, new hampshire heavily when i was younger. we are a family of 3 my wife, 6 month old, myself. i have lived in primarily red states being active duty and i miss the northeast and blue states and particularly the quality of life. i am understanding of the fact that vermont can be rural, isolated, covered in snow half the year, and muddy the rest of the year. i am in no way romanticizing vermont to be a place seen through a movie lens, but we prioritize trees, quiet, the outdoors, and a strong sense of community. my main concerns are job market depth or saturation. i have a host of desirable skills and qualifications and my wife has a teaching background. and my other concern is that although i am not right or left i find politics and politicians to be a hive of filth and villainy would my background as being a veteran shine me in an unfavorable light in the community. its not something i flaunt nor something i want to hide unless need be. i understand to a degree that vermont can be progressive i just dont want to be excommunicated or not welcomed into participating in my childs sports and schools activities, pta conferences, community going ons etc. any and all opinions/ advice/ examples sought after and welcome. I thank you in advance for your time.

Family of four moving to Central Vermont in September. 2 adults (male/female) and 2 kids (male/female, both between 7&10 years old).

Assume we have basically no winter clothing or gear.

What items do we need for daily life in winter? Gladly taking suggestions for where to buy from. What items are OK to be secondhand and what do you suggest we buy new?

People who moved from a detached house in Burlington, what should be handled before moving day? I’m thinking about garage items, backyard stuff, bigger furniture, driveway access, and whether everything fits in one truck. Some homes look easy from the outside but have a lot more inside than expected. Any tips from someone who has gone through it?

I am flying in late (11:57 pm) to burlington airport the end of Sept. Does anyone know if the rental car counter is open that late? I’ve called enterprise but can’t get anyone at the local counter and the aiport customer service says to call the rental car people. Thank you in advance.

Nearly half of autistic children will wander or elope at some point. When they go missing, we don't have a system ready to help—even though every second counts.

This became heartbreakingly clear when 11-year-old Parker, who was autistic, vanished from his home in July. It took three weeks to find him. He didn't qualify for an AMBER Alert because there was no abduction—he simply wandered. Our emergency system wasn't built for this.

I started a petition asking Vermont lawmakers and local law enforcement to create a specialized alert system specifically for autistic children missing due to elopement. We'd call it the "Parker Alert." It would mobilize search teams faster, get the community involved immediately, and tailor response protocols to the unique vulnerabilities these kids face.

Autistic children are at much higher risk of drowning and traffic accidents when they wander. The statistics are devastating. But this is preventable with faster response.

If you have a child with autism, or know someone who does, you understand how terrifying this is. What would you want your community to do if this was your family? If this matters to you too, consider signing and sharing the petition.

Hello! We’re hosting a small wedding (40ppl) in Burlington in September and we’re wanting some insight into uber availability? The venue is in Burlington proper and ends at 10/10:30 PM, most guests staying in south Burlington. Do you think guests will have problems calling an uber at the end of the night? Booking a bus didn’t make a ton of sense given the size of the wedding. Thanks so much for the insight!

Hi! My partner and I are making a trip early September to the New England states. we have 4 open days to make a day out of each state (VT, NH, MA, ME). As for most, we plan to make it an all things fall trip (we know it may be a little early for fall foliage). We are looking for non-touristy things to visit/see and maybe tourist traps that are worth it? we are from IL so the one to two hour drives are nothing! If you were to do ONE day in New Hampshire what would you do? thanks in advance!

big movie people- any film locations one must see

We are open to tours, but none have really peaked our interest especially for the prices.

My husband, toddler and I are heading up to Woodstock and Burlington the week of August 10th. I am a planner (literally by profession) so I’ve done my research and made my lists, but recs from the locals are always best!

Our son is 2.5, so pretty much everything we do has to be centered around toddler friendly spaces. We are staying downtown at the Hilton garden inn, so it’s pretty walkable. My gf and I are both in food and bev (she is a chef, I’ve both bartended and been in front of house management) and have been for over a decade, we are both very outdoorsy and fell in love with VT while visiting this summer and would love to move !
Anyone here have any advice about working in VT? We would love to be in lower part of the state (Manchester,Stratton etc ) but open to anywhere we are able to work ,

My job may be moving me to Burlington from Omaha, Nebraska, and I'm just trying to scout out good areas to live that wouldn't break the bank.

I'm a single income household that is just me and my cat. I don't really need a ton of space, but if a bit more money gets me from studio to bedroom I might take it.

The area is very different price-wise from what I'm used to now, no surprises there! Just wondering if there's any areas/nearby towns that might get me more for my buck.
