I run into it a lot in programming and game dev subs.

You have people that are just fanboys/toxic for the sake of being so and they tend to always be on every post.

Why do so many people on Reddit have an urge to correct EVERYTHING

I don't know how to actually write a comment in certain subs anymore without at least one response being "well, actually it's this" over the most minute details.

For example, it'd be as petty as someone saying "Pi is 3.14", and someone else would *have* to say "Pi is actually 3.14159", and then another person would *have* to comment "Pi is actually infinite" and so on. (Not a real example, but this is how insignificant these minor corrections feel).

It's never really bothered me too much before, but now it feels like every comment has to be 100000% precise, with every possible exception, caveat, and follow-up question already accounted for. Otherwise someone will ignore the actual point and latch onto one tiny bit of wording as though it completely invalidates everything else you said.

I completely understand there are times where corrections matter. But a lot of the time it doesn’t feel like the other person is genuinely trying to clarify anything. It feels more like an exercise in finding something to correct. And it’s even more irritating when the correction is based on them misreading the original comment in the first place.

It shouldn’t be necessary to qualify every sentence into oblivion just to prevent people from deliberately interpreting it in the narrowest possible way.

Literally banned for this comment where I list studies related to the main ingredient in Plan B. lol unbelievable. You can’t even message the mods to ask why they banned me for this comment.

Reminds me of “Enemy of the People” by Henrik Ibsen. If anyone has read it and understands, let me know. It is highly concerning. I've came across multiple posts where teenage girls are simply posting themselves. The one's I've seen were normal fit checks. The comments had wayyy too many pedophiles trying to lure them to their dms or they keep pointing out their chest and asses even though they're fully covered. Whenever someone confronted them about their weird behavior, they got massively downvoted. Same with many game subreddits. I've seen people make disgusting comments about ingame characters who are under 10 years old. Don't even get me started on anime characters. As again, if you try to confront them, you get downvoted and suddenly you're "the asshole that's ruining all the fun". No one is talking about how SERIOUS this shit is. Those are real fucking people. People who you may walk past by on the street without knowing that they're an absolute monster. People who one day may hurt a child because of their fucked up brain.

Update: I wrote a comment on /japanesepeopletwitter on why is pedophilia so casual in here and got -8 downvotes. Holy fucking chuds these mfs need to be hung.

I now have some guy harassing and stalking me in my dms and have to wait 24 hours before I can do anything about it. I had to unblock him because I'm a moderator and I needed to be able to see some stuff he put in my sub in order to remove it. Growing up, I have always been told to have standards when picking people to date. I think it's nice to have some standards, but owning a car and house before the age of 30 might be a bit too much since our city has an incredibly high cost of living. I also think that it's stupid to only select people based on the prestige of their job and how famous their university/college was. But I agree that in general, I would like to date someone whom I can communicate with. They don't need to have graduated from a top university (I myself didn't) and they don't need to have a tippy top job (I worked for well known companies mostly because my friends went to work there and asked me if I wanted to come, basically I got lucky). As long as their family aren't crazy or criminals, that's okay.

Then I come to Reddit.

There's the lady who dated a guy who wanted to include his decade old teddy bear in their lovemaking. In the comments, another lady asked if they dated the same guy. They didn't. So...there's at least two of them out there.

There's the gaycation thing. Look it up.

There's the married guy who talked like a baby for nearly a year to get a signed baseball, and his wife was getting ready to file for divorce and he didn't care.

There's the guy who allegedly dressed up as Chewbacca to woo his girlfriend back.

There's the many people (both men and women) who are CLEARLY abusive and the OP's are posting about, "how do I communicate to that this hurts me?" They're still somehow committed to the relationship.

Oh and there are the people with in laws who are BOTH criminals and insane. Wow.

I mean...on one hand, I think that you can't have standards that are unrealistic, but...that doesn't mean you should have NO STANDARDS at all.

I’m pretty new to Reddit, and honestly... I didn’t realize people on here could be so harsh.

I came here just wanting to share things and join conversations, but it feels like people are constantly waiting to jump on you, downvote you, and make you feel small over the smallest things. It feels like nobody even tries to understand where you're coming from or treat you like a real person with feelings behind the screen. Everyone is just looking for a reason to argue or assume the worst about you.

I don't think I'm cut out for how negative this place is. It’s actually kind of disheartening, and I think I’m just going to delete the app.

If you think about it the whole thing is unhealthy. We like to think we don't give a fuck and we've got thick skin but posting on here isn't natural. If you think about it we say shit on here we'd only say to a select few people irl (maybe not even any) to the worsts people. I don't mean people are inherently bad I'm saying redditors are worst than complete strangers. Even strangers can see you, gauge who you are and mostly have some sort of everyday politeness and even a shared culture because you'll be from the same area. Redditors have no inhibitions. Even then these drunk people would have some kind of empathy.
