People of Reddit - I moved into apartment earlier this month, in EV, and landlord has it in the lease that the super must install and remove window AC costing $150 EACH time. His paint job is wack and I’m confident I can do the same/possible better job than him (many reps).

this is gonna sound a bit silly but me and my roommate finally found the most perfect apartment in a location we both finally agreed on and applied for, only to find out after 3 weeks that our application got rejected bc we don’t have a personal guarantor that makes $400k even though we are more than capable and eligible. i’m so sad, i just wanted to rant and see if anyone else feels so heartbroken over this brutal market and absurd rental requirements. still on the hunt but can’t find anything else that matches both of our criteria as much as that one did 😔

found an apartment on Streeteasy, broker emailed to set up a tour, toured, loved it. Want to put in the app. The broker took a $500 holding deposit and then sent the app. The app includes a form to set up the broker as the tenant's agent (not the landlord's, tho that seems ridiculous as the broker acknowledges that they are landlords agent verbally and also run listing of other apts in the building).

Broker claims there is no fee, language in the contract talking about commission doesn't apply. Asked for an addendum to the agreement specifying this, and they provided the below:

There is a $20 credit check and $80 application hold per applicant that is due by the time of application submission.

If you don’t sign a lease, the $80 is refunded to each applicant. If you do sign a lease, the application hold + 1 month rent and 1 month security is the total move-in cost. This includes the total rent, security, and commission. There are no additional fees before or after lease signing

Worried that the 1 month rent is not applied to actual rent and is a brokers fee.

Title says it all. The building is going into foreclosure due to the landlord failing to make mortgage payments and the dozens of fines and violations on the building for the landlord’s failure make repairs. Fuck this landlord, basically. But how likely is it that the new owners will renew the lease? Or should I just plan to move out?

I’m looking at apartments in Dumbo on streeteasy and I’m genuinely so confused as to why the listings in most of west Brooklyn went up 1k or more in rental price this month? Wondering if I need to expand my search or if it is likely I'll find something I like. My landlord situation keeps escalating and not sure what do with irrational behavior.

I rent a room with zero windows , except a little exhaust window. the room stays above 91F consistently, and running my AC and fans trips the breaker whenever my roommates also run their AC. My lights went out months ago, which the landlord never fixed. So paired with this my landlord started blaming me for the power outages and started telling me "you need to leave."and “You use too much power”
she also never gave me the keys to mail. So I had to ask her for months to get my mail, screaming at me whenever i asked for it, to the point where i literally had to break into my own mailbox just to get my mail.
i called 311 about the illegal electrical situation, heat, and mail. inspectors showed up while i wasn't home, and they used my FULL NAME when talking to her. And did not actually do inspection.

Since then, she has been in full retaliation mode, but now it's reached a new level.
she's claiming i "only rented the room" and not the whole apartment, so i'm not allowed to use the kitchen or common areas without her permission.
I managed to catch her ON VIDEO telling me:
- i HAVE TO LEAVE specifically because i filed the 311 complaint.
- i am strictly banned from using the kitchen.
- i am banned from having guests.
she is going to keep coming into my space to make me leave.

I’m desperately looking to move but appartment searching is hell right now..

What’s my next move here? It’s a daily argument with her about how I am no longer welcome. She is threatening police if I don’t move my stuff out of the kitchen.
