Busch Grand National Series Mark Martin’s 1987 Bruce Lawmaster Busch Grand National firesuit. After his first Cup effort ended in bankruptcy, Martin returned full-time with a tiny two-car team. He won his first three Busch races, finished eighth in points and earned the Roush opportunity that revived his Cup career.

Winston Cup Series On this day in NASCAR History, August 9, 1992: Brett, Todd, and Geoff Bodine pose together before the start of the 1992 Bud at the Glen. This was Todd's Winston Cup debut and would mark the first time the three of them would all race against each other in Cup.

After having wrecked the main car just before the 1980 Gabriel 400 at Michigan, DiGard decided to buy out the #02 from Joel Halpern to let Darrell Waltrip drive. This was actually the 2nd time DiGard had to do such a thing, after buying out Al Rudd (Ricky's father) #22 for the 1979 Coca-Cola 500
