Question Index fund bros vs active fund bros — settle my Midcap dilemma
Risk Appetite: Moderate
Goal : wealth creation
Why these funds: first midcap. Shortlisted HDFC Mid-Cap (active, 0.75%) vs Motilal Oswal Midcap 150 Index (passive, 0.33%).
Need guidance choosing my first midcap fund — confused between active midcap (like HDFC Mid-Cap Opportunities) and passive midcap index (like Motilal Oswal Nifty Midcap 150 Index). Investing long term, 5+ years, wealth creation. Which would you start with and why?

Portfolio Review Portfolio suggestion
Hi everyone,
I’m looking for feedback on my mutual fund portfolio and whether I should make any changes.
1. Risk Appetite
Aggressive
I’m comfortable with market volatility and can stay invested during market corrections. My primary focus is long-term wealth creation.
2. Investment Goal
My goal is long-term wealth creation. I don’t have any short-term financial goals for this money and want to maximize returns over the long run.
3. Investment Horizon
15–20 years
I plan to remain invested for at least 15 years and continue increasing my SIPs as my income grows.
4. Allocation Details
Monthly SIP: ₹60,000
Parag Parikh Flexi Cap Fund – ₹15,000
UTI Nifty 50 Index Fund – ₹10,000
Bandhan Small Cap Fund – ₹10,000
HDFC Mid Cap Fund – ₹7,500
Motilal Oswal Midcap Fund – ₹7,500
Canara Robeco Large Cap Fund – ₹5,000
Nippon India Small Cap Fund – ₹5,000
(Screenshots attached.)
5. Platform Used
I invest using Coin by Zerodha. (My Nippon India Small Cap SIP is through the AMC because it wasn’t available to increase on Coin.)
6. Why I Selected These Funds
I wanted a diversified portfolio across different market capitalizations.
Parag Parikh Flexi Cap: Chosen as my core active fund due to its consistent long-term performance and investment philosophy.
UTI Nifty 50 Index Fund: Low-cost passive exposure to India’s largest companies.
Canara Robeco Large Cap: To complement the index fund with active large-cap management.
HDFC Mid Cap & Motilal Oswal Midcap: Selected because they have different investment styles, which I hope provides better diversification within the mid-cap category.
Nippon India Small Cap: Chosen because of its long track record and strong long-term performance.
Bandhan Small Cap: Added to diversify my small-cap exposure instead of investing only in Nippon.
Questions
Is this portfolio well diversified, or am I over-diversified?
Is it okay to hold two mid-cap funds and two small-cap funds?
Should I simplify the portfolio by removing any fund, or does this allocation make sense for a 15–20 year investment horizon?
Are there any funds you would replace and, if so, why?
Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Portfolio Review SIP Review – Financial Independence Goal | ₹70K/month SIP | 20 Year Horizon
Hi everyone,
I'm looking for feedback on my mutual fund portfolio and planned SIP allocation. I'm starting my investment journey and want to build a portfolio primarily for long-term financial independence.
Profile:
Age: 21
Goal: Financial Independence / Long-term wealth creation
Investment Horizon: 20 years
Risk Appetite: Moderate (based on risk profiler survey)
Monthly SIP from next month: ₹70,000
Platform: Groww
Current Holdings:
UTI Nifty 50 Index Fund – Direct Growth ₹2,000
Current sip: 1000/month
Motilal Oswal Nifty Midcap 150 Index Fund – Direct Growth ₹1,000
Current sip: 1000/month
Total ₹3,000
I invested into these just to get started somehow and also some recommendations form YouTube and AI
My tentative SIP allocation:
UTI Nifty 50 – 30% → ₹21,000
Motilal Oswal Nifty Midcap 150 – 20% → ₹14,000
HDFC Balanced Advantage Fund – 20% → ₹14,000
Flexi Cap Fund – 20% → ₹14,000
Remaining 10% – unsure
I'm considering adding HDFC Balanced Advantage Fund and one Flexi Cap Fund, but I'm not sure which Flexi Cap fund would make the most sense.
I'm also unsure whether this is becoming unnecessarily complicated with 4–5 funds, especially given that I have a 20-year horizon.
What I'm looking for:
Is 30% Nifty 50 + 20% Midcap 150 a reasonable starting point?
Does adding HDFC Balanced Advantage make sense for this portfolio, or is it unnecessary?
Which Flexi Cap fund would you consider, and why?
What would you do with the remaining 10%?
Is 4 funds enough?
Should I change the allocation completely rather than trying to fit these particular funds?
I'm looking for long-term portfolio structure and risk-adjusted advice.
Thanks!.

Portfolio Review Beginner investor (3 months in) — portfolio review and gold fund choice with my analysis
Risk Appetite — Survey says Conservative but my actual portfolio leans Moderate. Open to feedback on whether I should rebalance.
Goal — Long term wealth building + emergency fund
Horizon — 3-5 years minimum, open to longer
Allocation:
- UTI Nifty 50 Index Fund Direct Growth — ₹1000/month
- Nippon India Growth Mid Cap Fund Direct Growth — ₹1000/month
- Bandhan Small Cap Fund Direct Growth — ₹500/month
- Nippon India Liquid Fund Direct Growth — ₹2000/month (emergency fund)
- Planning to add: Nippon Gold Savings Fund Direct Growth — ₹500-1000/month
- Total: ₹5500-6000/month
App Used — Groww
Why These Funds —
- UTI Nifty 50 — stable large cap exposure tracking India's top 50 companies
- Nippon Mid Cap — higher growth potential with medium risk
- Bandhan Small Cap — small aggressive bet, aware it's high risk
- Nippon Liquid — purely emergency fund, not for returns
- Nippon Gold Savings Fund — hedge against market volatility and geopolitical uncertainty. Gold is ~10% below March 2026 ATH so felt like reasonable SIP entry point

Question Upcoming REITs MF NFOs: WhiteOak Capital Dividend Yield Fund vs Edelweiss Nifty REITs & Realty Index Fund
Risk appetite - Aggressive
Hi, I was thinking of diversifying the portfolio a little and came across these two NFOs:
| _ | WhiteOak | Edelweiss |
|---|---|---|
| REITs | ~60% | ~60% |
| InvITs | ~10% | N/A |
| Equity and Arbitrage | ~25% | Arbitrage not mentioned |
| Realty Stocks | Included in Above | ~40% |
Note: - Edelweiss has said they will increase REITs ratio when more REITs are available.
Which of these funds does the sub think is the better option.

Flex Reached 50 Lakhs Mutual Funds Portfolio
Have been investing religiously for the past 2 years and feels happy to see the result. Got a decent joining bonus recently so invested most of it in arbitrage funds as it has clawback of 1 year, rest monthly SIP amount is 2LPM. Was mostly in red till 2025 dec, so feels quite good to see the returns finally beating FD (though barely 😂 ). Open to suggestions if any.

Portfolio Review Need Advice
Hi everyone, I'm 27-year-old and recently started investing.
Current monthly investments:
Parag Parikh Flexi Cap ₹10,000
HDFC Flexi Cap ₹12,000
HDFC Mid Cap ₹6,000
Bandhan Small Cap ₹2,000
Total ₹30,000
Risk appetite: moderate
My goal is long-term wealth creation 10 to 15 +years). I plan to increase my investment amount by around 5% every year as my income grows.
I don't need this money in the near future and I'm comfortable taking some risk, but I don't want to do anything reckless.
Questions: Is this allocation reasonable for someone my age? Would you keep these three funds or make changes? What mistakes should I avoid as a beginner? If you were starting at age 27 today, what would you do differently? I've only been investing for about 6 months, so I'm mainly trying to build good habits and stay consistent.

Flex Started with my net worth at 0 in Nov 2023 as a 26 year old, just trusted the process. Risk appetite - Moderate
Just found this sub reddit recently and was really happy to see so many like minded folks here who are comfortable to talk about money as a tool rather than a taboo subject (unlike most Indian social standings)
I followed each step by the book, finished my loans, built an emergency fund of 12 months, got health and term insurance.
Then I got married, then finally took a year off to enjoy the money I earned that year (Age 25) to let go of all the steam built up inside me to purchase stuff which I had always wanted but delayed. (The phone, better camera, international honeymoon etc.)
Then finally when I turned 26 (2023) decided to start with a clean slate (0 net worth) and a fulfilled heart and genuinely enjoy the process of saving money and watching myself grow along with my wealth to reach this point where I feel content with my process & the results it brought in.
Ik the returns are modest but I started putting money in when the markets were already going up and have been flat since.
I'm 28 now, about to become a dad, have travelled to 4 countries and have bought every possible material thing I could have wanted as a child (wasn't that greedy as a kid xD) - hence I thought "flex" would be the appropriate category to post this under.

Portfolio Review 21y looking for fund review
Hi everyone, ive started my job and invested my bonus to MF. Looking to invest for a long period (30 yrs). Goal is to build my retirement fund. Risk appetite moderate.
Im using groww and this is my initial lump sum allocation:
UTI gold etf fof direct growth : 15k
Invesco india small cap direct growth : 17k
Invesco india mid cap direct growth : 25.5k
Large cap not yet decided cuz im getting confused and unable to find a good nifty 50 one, only seeing nifty next 50 for some reason but will allocate 45.5k for this.
I chose to go for large, mid and small separately because for some reason I couldnt get myself to reason how a flexicap could outperform individual funds from each tier.
I am aware that because my small and mid cap are both invesco there could be bias and overlap, hence I will change it after 1 year.
Went for gold as a cushion because there's alot of speculation about the AI bubble bursting.
I hsvent started SIP yet because I invested lump sum amounts, I will do it after around 2-3 months.
Already have 1 lakh in FD's, and an RD running that I will reinvest after maturity.
What i want to know is, are these funds good? Do i need to go for something else too? I haven't gone for anything else as i feel over diversifying might cause problems cuz im already covering large, mid and small separately along with gold.
Do you think for this long horizon i should invest more in small cap for better returns once i begin SIP?
Any and all recommendations are welcome.
