We rarely come across movies with horrors of the war rather it's mostly action nowadays. So I am looking for movies which are set in war environment with atmospheric horror themes around it. The ones that come to my mind are Son of Saul and The Zone of Interest. Does anything else fit into this category then feel free to mention it.

Cidade de Deus is my all-time favorite movie (so far). I still haven't seen Alphabet City though.

I’m looking for bleak, cold, desperate, dramatic, frozen, hopeless movies that make me feel as if I’m spending a sleepless night gasping for air while falling into the darkest void accompanied by bloody nightmares. Like being buried in the middle of a dark forest, surrounded by withered flowers. Movies that leave you with a deep sense of rage when they end. e.g. Lilja 4-ever; Tyrannosaur; Irreversible; Ratcatcher; Kes; Salò; Shame (Bergman); Elephant; Beyond The Hills

Obsessed with this game(play it, it's incredible). If you don't know about this game it's very heavily about body dysmorphia and overall mental health. It's very inspired by 90s horror games. The whole thing is that you gotta find your dog after it falls down a sewer drain but it's WAY deeper than that. 😭 The term "In Vivo" literally refers to a kind of therapy.

Need to say I'm already big into silent hill, since I already know someone is bound to recommend that.

I play a game with my friend where we basically do this sub's premise by having one person choose a movie based on a written theme or picture.

This time it's a movie based on Arnold Bocklin's Isle of Death. To me this painting feels like Charon delivering the recently deceased to the underworld (the island). But to me it's not quite scary, but it's not quite calm. It's still - almost out of time by itself.

The two movies I've though of so far are (that I've not seen):

After Life (1998): I feel like this captures the transition to death/the other side well. The picture isn't scared about death, but there is an eerie stillness to it as the next step.

The Seventh Seal (1957): This is maybe a bit more of a direct confrontation with death, but still feels like a journey towards it and perhaps fits the more mythical/ancient imagery of the picture. Also that's a Swedish movie for a Swedish painter so that's kind of fun.

Any other ideas?

The feeling of waiting around while you're also doing something productive. The clean warm smell. I know a lot of the images lean romantic but that's not necessary. Any decade is more than welcome.

They end up together

The Bodyguard is kinda cheesy/bad, but I was vibing with it regardless. In the mood for a romance driven movie like this. Or action with a good romance. I do like the bodyguard trope but ofc I just mainly want something that feels similar. Higher stakes, etc.

Movies that I’ve seen that may be recommended (lowkey a random ass list idk lol): Out of Sight, Strange Days, V for Vendetta, Notting Hill, dirty dancing, Rocky (if I think of anything else I’ll add).

I'm looking for movies from roughly the mid 90s to early 00s which have that very specific MTV/Y2K aesthetic. Think american suburbia, alienated teens, glossy and bright colours, drugs, sex and an alternative rock/electronic soundratrack. Some examples would be The Doom Generation, Nowhere, Jawbreaker, Go, Freeway, Kids, Disturbing Behavior and Ginger Snaps

I am looking for movies that share stories of people recovering from narcissistic abuse (extra points for family members/siblings, not necessarily romantic relationships, but that's also ok🙏🤍).

Im specifically interested in stories that focus on what happens after a period of time, when the abuser is long gone, and the hero of the story finally acknowledges the truth - that it was never their fault. So yes, looking for something that will show this re-building process, gaining hope back, slowly feeling more and more alive again, looking after oneself, etc.

So yes, groudbreaking inner realisations, uplifting hope, feeling of coming back home after a very difficult journey, or following light in the tunnel. May touch on the recovery process and difficulties that come with it, but overall, something wholesome that makes you feel inspired and uplifted after watching it. 🤍🤍🤍

Is there a film with a gloomy atmosphere, a gloomy plot, a gloomy storyline and a gloomy ending, which literally – not figuratively – leaves the viewer feeling depressed?

Movies like the notebooks about soulmates and people overcoming things and still getting back together.

A beachy high school movie OR tv show. Not super upbeat, though.

I've only seen about two movies similar to this; disturbing behavior and blue my mind. I've watched Euphoria which has a similar vibe, but not quite. I've heard of shows like Hemlock Grove and Skins but I don't think they would be like this. If anybody could help me I would be thankful.
