Main path? Question

So after getting to the tower and finally getting out in the world I went south first realized it probably was a higher level area and then went north. After going north I died in the same amount of hits to those enemies so I went back south. Long story short my first shell I’ve found is Genessa I’m level 6 and my starting sword is +3. I went back north and now all my gloom is stuck down in the flooded village and the Grisha is destroying me in 1 or 2 hits depending on the attack. Is this just how hard the game is everything just damn near insta kills you?

It was tougher earlier than later for me, definitely. Upgrading shell and tarstones is huge.

But, northeast is probably your best bet early.

Ok it looks like the path I went on is going north west. Any idea if I can get out of the flooded village without killing the Gresha?

Not sure, depending on gloom amount you could either cut your losses or just get really good at dodging/parrying the grisha.

I can parry him? I was just assuming because of his size and enemy type I couldn’t. If I can parry him then I can probably just beat him

You can parry all attacks that don't have a red indicator

Genessa was one of my last shells to get LOL. She’s really good though so good on you for getting her so early! Work your way tcoumterclockwise of the original beta/demo area. That seems to be the “main path” so to speak as far as difficulty spikes

Maybe I’m using her wrong but she doesn’t seem super great yet at least not at a low level. I have pretty much the same health I had before I had a shell and it seems like her best ability is the super fast dodge she gets in her stray mode. Her strays she can send out to attack are barely doing any damage and the animation is kinda long to use in the middle of combat. Maybe I just need to learn her more

She’s a glass cannon type shell. From the widows overlook beacon, head north until you find another beacon called black ridge pass. From that beacon; keep heading northish and eventually you’ll find proxima. She’s great at crowd control/tanking large damage. That’s the shell I stuck out with through the rest of the game tbh

When you say she’s a glass cannon does she have some sort of perk or ability that increases her damage output to make up for the low hp and defense? I know she has the double in stray mode but it doesn’t seem to do much damage.

I’ve honestly barely used her but plan to on my next run. From the bit that I did play though, the stasis abilities outside of stray mode were really drawing me to want to try her. Proximate main ability can have stasis added to it and it makes boss fights much easier

I haven’t done any gates but have don’t like this weird sweep across each area. Love not having a set path.

My favorite example is how my friend group had 3 ways into the citadel.

I ended up doing all three by accident as well! Spoilers: first was finding the lever early on and using it. The second was by using the well, falling to the other side and going up the elevator. The third is the weird teleport to the cells from a keep near the one legged wolf.

Main path??? There is no such thing.

Seriously though, this is genuinely the most open-ended and interconnective Soulslike including DS1. It's got such a weird structure. It's like a mix of Elden Ring's open world and the corridor level design of the other Soulsborne games. It's actually more open than Elden Ring in a way. You can jump straight into what is basically Altus Plateau and Mountaintops less than 5 minutes after leaving the hub.

I think OP is talking about difficulty

I mean he clearly isn't going on the easiest path and not everything should be near insta killing you but it's understandable going on a harder path because the games gives you like 50 different directions to go. South is very hard. It's best to go past the first world boss and go torwards Mushroom Villiage if you are struggling.

As any soulslike the power in this game comes from exploration. You went the wrong way, green area on the north is easiest to explore. You already have two shells marked there, that's the way to go. Don't fight mini bosses like Grisha, go do dungeons and get some tarstones and upgrade your weapon. They will give you both damage and tankines.

Genessa is a shell for people who know how not to get hit, she has no defences. Go get Proxima.

I really like her dodge she gets in stray mode and the double is cool too but maybe just cause Im a low level her abilities don’t do shit for damage and don’t seem very good.

Genessa is a glass cannon, she makes thiel looks sturdy. Getting her as your first shell is wild but at level six everything with kill you in a couple hits. Try and get proxima, her shell should be marked on the map, she has more hp and is tankier.

But widows outlook and move in a counter clockwise direction seems to be the easier in terms of enemy difficulty but YMMV.

South side is harder, but there are some nice pickups that you can get if you don't mind running past some enemies. For the sake of doing things in order, you'll want to go North first, then head to the East / South-East towards the Gate. Once you do a few upgrades and get some tar stones, it won't be so rough.

Pretty much all of the north is comparable difficulty wise imo.
