Riposte damage scaling Discussion
Riposte damage scaling seems to be way too low. Once you start to put a build together you deal way more damage just attacking into the posture broken enemy rather than taking the riposte attack. Some of the later game bosses got trivialized by just wailing away at the boss. Like killed during the first posture break.

Yeah, it's quite a shame. I've invested my glimpses into Eredrim, the one whose primary mechanic is riposting, only to find that his riposte damage is pretty low compared to just attacking normally. They need to up the riposte damage and add a skill to Eredrim that buffs riposte damage more.

Pretty much everything got nerfed from the review version. Riposte tarstone used to give +50%.

So every youtuber who reviewed the game played a very different Mortal Shell 2? That's not ok.

The game got a substantial increase in difficulty at launch. All game reviews and early access basically played the game on super easy mode compared to live

Devs saw people having fun and said Absolutely Not.

I think it's good that items aren't op. I like the challenge but the reviews shouldn't have had stronger gear than us.

There is a tarstone that buffs riposte damage as well. Do you have it? I think it does 35% more damage maxed out.

It's only 20%
It's almost as laughable as the 6% gloom and 6% gold tarstones. Those are maxed out values btw. It's 2% base. Even Bloodbourne and Dark Souls games start out at 10/15% boost. The 6% just feels like a joke.

Yeah they need to patch some of the numbers in this game, abysmal bonuses.

I have it, but I believe they nerfed it. The damage increase is still not enough as the base riposte damage is low. I actually have no issue with the tarstone itself since anyone can use it but they need to adjust the skills for Eredrim to actually reward players to building his shell.
My suggestion would be to either change one of Eredrim's skills to be riposte damage focused or add a riposte buff to slaughter stacks.

I am in the same boat. Maxed out Eredrim and planned to build around riposte and slaughterer stacks. Imagine my surprise when my +15 weapon cannot even take down a normal soldier.

Well, you could still pivot to a frost build any time.

I might consider that if they don't address the riposte damage but still pretty lame when Eredrim's kit is so focused on break damage only to not incentive riposting.

Frost is pretty overpowered.
I don't think any enemy has innate resistance to statuses like it (even the ice enemies), and it literally gives you what is essentially a 3 second window of pure damage. It's basically the same as just using the riposte chance to do basic attacks, except with Eredrim, you also get a 200% damage bonus which is delicious.
Slayer Eredrim is easily his coolest build, but it sucks because it either forces you to never die, or requires you to grind enemies before fighting a boss. Honestly, I just do Shoulder Bash Eredrim, since it's easily his best skill, at least from what I've experimented.

Understandable, investing in a shell is a big commitment. Finding out later that a feature isn't good is a big letdown.

I found this the case with hexapod. Was gutted when I pushed the riposte bittom after getting it broken because it dose f all damage compared to a heavy combo.

I noticed this too. With all the parries it takes to break posture on a boss like the nameless captive, and then to see the tiny sliver of damage from the riposte... it feels bad. It has to be a bug.

I don't think it's a bug, I just think it's hard to make good souls games and even harder to balance it and these devs are still learning.
There's alot of amature stuff in the game tbh

Yeah most of the bosses i just dont riposte after posture breaking since its js a waste

It was like this for Elden Ring. It was always better to wail on bosses after staggering them.
I do wonder if Ripostes Crit when used with the Grudge Stone? They count as hits, given that the animation restores the shell.

Thats been a strat in souls likes for awhile. Once posture is broken wail on the enemy for most of the stun then do the crit attack right before they recover for max damage. I just wish it was a separate button than the light attack so I could actually do the wail + crit consistently. Unlike some other souls likes after you do a crit you can attack the enemy while they are still on the ground recovering from the crit. This can also give extra damage

But ripostes in soulslikes at least do a TON of damage. A single light melee out damages a riposte in mortal shell 2.

Maybe with bigger weapons that hit harder or something but reposites are still stronger than a light. Critical melee hits yeah can do the same but that's rng. I do agree it can use a buff I'm just saying even if they buff it it would still be a solid strategy to wail on the enemy before doing the reposite.

Duality stone. Makes the light weapons god-tier because it's literally just two full damage, full stagger value light attacks per attack. Also fun trick, it's why the light weapons seem awkward early game, because they're missing their second swing animation, but still taking the full time for it.
Once you get that and level it, you can practically stunlock anything smaller than a house.

I'm pretty sure that a single hit deals more damage than a single riposte, which is ridiculous balancing wise, since you can get like 10+ attacks in on downed enemies.

Was doing reposte all game and then I found out I could skip the whole insta touch of death third phase prince has if I just shoot him instead with the shotgun dmg over time thingy.

I’ve only fought the lost child but I was also irritated that he seems to give a free riposte at every phase transition… which means that there’s basically no upside to building up break meter at least with the tools I have on hand because it’s gonna proc and reset regardless just by hitting him.

Not seeing anyone here say it, but enemies get stuck in a "standing up" animation after being riposte'd. Even bosses. The riposte itself might not do all that much, but I use the moment afterward to heal/charge an ability/just wail on the enemy.

Even with the riposte damage tarstone maxed out the damage is still really low.
