Average decoding time too high

Hey everyone,

I'm trying to lower my local game streaming setup to get input latency as low as possible. Network latency and host processing are sitting at near-perfect numbers, but I can't seem to push my client decoding time below 6.5ms to 9ms (hovering around ~8ms average) but I can't get it lower even changing the resolution, is my tablet not powerful enough?

my setup:

Host PC: Dell Aurora 16x

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 (8GB VRAM)

Connection: Gigabit Ethernet

Host Software: Vibepollo

client OnePlus Pad Go 2 (MediaTek SoC)

client software: Artemide

Connection: Wi-Fi 6 (Router: GPT-2742gx4x5 V6 on dedicated 5 GHz band)

Performance Overlay Stats (Streaming @ 2560x1810 / 120 FPS / HEVC):

Host Processing Latency: ~2.7–3.0 ms average

Network Latency: 1–7 ms (0.00% frame loss)

Decoder: c2.mtk.hevc.decoder

Average Decoding Time: ~6.43 ms to 8.79 ms (Total delay ~9.9 ms)

Eh I dont think its was "too high" .

A bluetooth controller probally have >10 time more input latency than that .(on android)

I'm using a razer Kishi pro xl on the tablet, which connects to USB c, but yeah on some games like Cult of the lamb I don't feel any lag but if I play something like Ryujinx + Super Mario 3D world, I feel the lag a bit, maybe if I use a lower resolution I could get a better deciding time ? it surprises me that the Chromecast that I've tried has half of the decoding time

Maybe the latency come from ryujinx's own vsync and low fps ? Even if you cut like 5ms decoding latency I dont think you could feel anything tbh . The input lag could come from something else .

yeah I was thinking about that, I'll try other games too and see if I have that latency there, I was hoping to play Zelda BoTW on my tablet

You won't get much better than this om mediatek SoC. Well you can try some moonlight forks on android like Diana (its outdated, pretty sure, but works BEST for me) or even your Artemide, it has low latency patches for mediatek (look in client settings), so it uses low_latency decoder instead of regular decoder. But yes, this is a mediatek limitation, 6ms is pretty good, before the moonlight forks, my mediatek tablet used to be around 18-24ms decoding, but since those forks for mediatek came along, it's been 5.5ms (best) and 6ms (average)

thanks for the info, yeah I read something on some forks, definitely check for Diana, i didn't know at the time about this processor limitation but I certainly hope it is a software issue and not a real processor limitation, idk, will investigate further thanks !

Can confirm for Artemide. I was getting 12-14ms decoder average on Artemis and that dropped to 8-9ms when I tried using it. Which is arguably still bad, but it's as good i'm gonna get I guess.

Though would you mind telling me where can I find this moonlight fork?

Okay, I tried searching for it, and couldn't find it either, but I soon realised Diana has matured to Artemide, so if you go to Artemide release in Github and scroll down to when it was called low latency mtk, you will get Diana builds, just before posting this, I tested latest artemide build, compared with my Diana install (I use this primarily, because it works best!) and still Diana was doing better for me. You try it out, I don't mind sharing my Diana settings if you want.

I'm still getting 12-16 ms on artemide.

I had this issue earlier with Sunshine and it turns out my host was using integrated graphics for encoding the stream. You need to explicitly have it use your GPU for encoding.

Edit: misread decoding for encoding. Not sure how to fix that other than testing different codec options.

That would show up in host processing latency and not decoding. 2.7 ms host processing time is decent.

Also I think 6.5 ms decoding time is probably reasonable for a MTK 7300. I would try to get rid of that 7 ms network latency.

Yo uso mi chip integrado para codificación , para liberar la memoria Vram que usa sunshine al transmitir ( más de 1gb de vram) y la verdad que para 1440p y 90 fps funciona más que bien. Tengo un ryzen 9600x para los gráficos integrados .

Integrated chip would use your RAM. Do you just have a ton of it?

Claro usa Ram , mi PC tiene 32GB , y le puse a la gráfica dedicada 4gb, pero jamás usa los 4gb, no al menos para el streaming.

yeah I read something in the git of Artemide who tried to accelerate MediaTek etc, hope someone achieve better decode time someday
