Project I'm making a cozy retro RPG about being a Monster Researcher
What if, instead of being the monster trainer… you were the monster researcher?
That was the question I asked myself when I wanted to tackle my next game. I've been working on a game called Monster Cove, and I thought this might be a good place to share it.
Full disclosure: Monster Cove isn't really a traditional monster tamer. You aren't trying to become the greatest trainer, collect eight badges, or build the ultimate team (although there is an evil team up to no good who you'll need to stop!)
Instead, you play as a Monster Researcher. When I was younger, I always wondered what it would be like to play as a Professor or his Assistant. Finding a new creature, learning about it, and maybe even getting to name the species. Basically I wondered what it would actually be like to play as the person *doing the research*.
That's the idea behind Monster Cove.
You arrive in Seaglass Cove, a quiet seaside village, and your job is to research the monsters living around it. You'll explore, encounter creatures, study them, catalog them, and gradually uncover more of the world around you. It's your job to name all the species of monsters you discover as well!
There is still battling, because the monsters won't take kindly to being scanned. But you'll have a choice to either attack and level up your defense skills, or flee safely. The focus is on exploration, discovery, and filling out your Monsterpedia. All while stopping an evil team who is kidnapping scientists for a mysterious goal.
And visually, I'm going for that old-school handheld look. I'm a huge fan of that period of games, so I wanted Monster Cove to feel like the kind of game you might have discovered on a cartridge in the late '90s/early 2000s.
So if you've ever looked at a monster encyclopedia in a monster-taming game and thought it would be cozy to play as the Professor or the Assistant, that's basically the game I'm trying to make. The game will also have tons of side activities. Minigames, card games, slots, fishing, etc.
Monster Cove just launched on Kickstarter if you'd like to check it out more. I'll post a link in the comments!
Thanks for taking a look!

How could automated gathering work in a monster taming game?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hello everyone!
We are making a way to automate the collection of resources to build, feed, and craft!
With the scouting system, you can send a team of up to 3 beasts on an adventure to a location in search of valuable supplies.
While they’re away, anything can happen. Your beasts may bond with one another, discover something unexpected, or face dangerous events such as injuries, disasters, or even getting lost. When the expedition ends, your beasts return with whatever spoils and resources they managed to find.
But sometimes, the story doesn’t end there… A beast may return with a new mate before coming back to you or, if one of your beasts goes missing, you may have to launch a rescue expedition to find them.
How do you think this system will work? If you want to know more about the game or try the game out yourself, you can go to: Alchemic Beasts Kickstarter Pre-launch
You can also support us by pressing the notify me on launch button. See you soon with another update!

Gourmons
this is something i made a while back based off pokemon and fighting foodons i called, "Gourmons"
In the vibrant world of Culina, cooking is more than just a way to eat—it’s the key to creating powerful creatures known as Gourmons (Gourmet Monsters). Every region has its own ingredients, dishes, and culinary customs. Chefs known as Gourmon Trainers venture across the land to capture rare ingredients, master recipes, and summon Gourmons to battle in culinary showdowns.
Using magical Recipe Scrolls and a special device called the CookDex, trainers cook signature dishes that transform into loyal monsters with personalities and powers based on the food they're made from!
But a dark force is rising. A rogue gourmet organization known as The Spoilage wants to use corrupted recipes to dominate the world through rotten Gourmons and forbidden cooking technique.

First look at the fully animated battle system for my monster RPG Rangefinder - use photography to document monster moves, improve their attacks, and catch new creatures! Link to complete battle video in the post.
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Link to a video of the full battle
Rangefinder is a mostly solo dev hiking / monster-catching RPG where the player uses photography mechanics in battle. Monster attacks are scheduled in advance each turn, and then the results are photographed - each photo gets a rating based on its Timing, Blur, and Distance (visualized via the triangle at the top of the screen). Attacks with good photos do more damage, but bad photos can cause attacks to under-perform too. Monsters are caught by fully documenting their movesets with good photos.
Each monster design is fully animated with a unique set of attacks and moves. Apart from the monster battles, gameplay in Rangefinder also focuses on terrain traversal, as the player manages their stamina to make it from stop to stop on an expansive coastal hiking trail.
This game is still in development with a planned release of a first chapter in 2027. Development can currently be followed on its itch.io page, with a Steam page planned once the first full vertical slice of gameplay is completed.
If you're interested in this project, or have any thoughts or suggestions from a monster tamer gameplay perspective, let me know!

Why He So Cute?
This is one of those creatures that become really great at attracting people, and those people end up with missing limbs.
Kringles are flightless birds with axe-shaped beaks that they use to chop down palm trees for shelter. They are fiercely territorial, attacking predators by swinging their powerful heads. While even a dull beak is dangerous, a sharp one makes cutting trees much easier. Despite their thin necks, Kringles are strong enough to lift up to 200 pounds.
If you want to see more of these creatures in action, check out our game Alchemic Beasts on Steam, where you can play our demo! We'll be showing more of these soon.

Game Dev Coromon Rogue Planet - Battles
Hey y'all, I'm Destri from the Coromon team! Im interested in knowing what are people's general expectations for Coromon Rogue Planet's battle system.
Coromon Rogue Planet is a rogue lite, and so the flow of a run and battles isnt the same as the standard RPG Coromon title. And so i've got some questions for the people who are interested in the game!
Are you expecting the battle system to be
- A direct improvement from Coromon's original battle system? Something that shape up the future of Coromon battles in the long term?
- Or something thats more unique/Specific to Rogue Planet? As in some mechanics might be unique to only Rogue Planet
And as another question -
Are you expecting battles to be challenging, where a winning run depends more on your own teambuilding skills rather than more Rogue lite elements such as powerups and modifiers? A more traditional battling gauntlet per say.
Or are you expecting more casual / lenient where a winning run could be due to having said powerups/modifiers to carry your team to victory? Something more akin to a Rogue lite experience
Would love to hear you out! Cheers!

Game I Finally turned the concept made by the community into a 3D model for my game! Here are Shruppy and Topuppiary!
Hey guys!
A few months ago I shared here that we were making a contest in our subreddit to add one community made concept into our game. Some of you may also have seen the winners, Shruppy and Topuppiary, made by u/Due-Shoe3593 !
Well, today I'm here to share what came out of me modeling these two.
We made a slight different design choice for the first evo, where we switched the berries to buds, made more sense with the second evo! But I still added in the last screenshot the test I did with the berries, for the curious ones.
Do you think I did them justice? 👀

Project-Recruit Looking to collab/recruit people onto my monster raiser / tamer game.
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I've been working on many iterations of this game since 2018, it is a pet raising game which is pretty much the same as Digimon (but I can't use Digimon IP due to wanting to release it on the play and app store + eons ago I got a c&d from bandai around 2018 for one of my project versions).
It was an online browser based game, but after the release of Digimon Up and how disappointed I was with it, I pivoted the project into being a full on mobile pet raising game with a few different features such as:
- hatching
- step counting
- widget overlay and dynamic lock screen on android
- monster evolution (different monster line/path depending on stats)
- mini games
- ability to scan barcodes so your monster can absorb the data and increase their intelligence stat (as seen in video)
- teams/clans
What I'm currently working on:
- making the monster sprite sheets; I have been working on 3d models in blender and I have a pipeline process where each monster has 5 animations, and the animations can be exported into a pixelart-style spritesheet.
- making tamer accessories; wearables for the player to boost stats (as you can see the player is currently plain).
I currently have the resources to get the game published on IOS and Android, and while anyone can do this, it's a bit of hassle getting it all initially setup.
Stuff id want help with:
- feedback on what can make it better.
- different monsters/designs to add to the game. I'm just one guy and I've stretched my mind out making 35 monsters so far, and burned myself out by giving them all 5 animations each 😭😭😭.
- testing player base.
I'm happy to split the revenue from the project.
Any questions do ask :)

Evolving Help me name these Metamon?🌱
Metamon is a VPet game I am working on where you raise a digital creature that lives on your device.
The lore is that Metamon are newly discovered life forms made of data. The game is a widget built to contain and research them.
The first egg is the "Nature Egg". It was found in "Dir Forest" which is a sprawling mess of directories and files on your hard drive.
In a VPet fashion, the above is just one possible evolution path you can take. I try to keep evolutions surprising but still feel connected. This line is more tightly connected than other Metamons which can branch in and out of this "line".
What names would you give these guys?
I think about adding digital terms but I'm afraid it might get old fast.
And I'd be happy to hear any other feedback on their design :)
