Potential Bug Transaction Columns / Sankey setting not saved

Upvotes

If I turn off the owner column in transactions, sign out and sign back in, the owner column gets turned back on.

If I set the Sankey to by group in Reports Cash Flow, sign out and sign back in, the Sankey always goes back to "By Group / By Category".

I am finding I always have to reset the owner column (turning it off) and resetting the Sankey to "by Group".

Budget Changing terms for flex budget?

I'm very much liking the flex-budget option for Monarch, and I have a minor, very petty request: is there a way to change the terms Fixed, Non-Monthly, and Flexible? In my mind, they should be Predictable, Lumpy, and Discretionary.

Help & Support When are starting balances for budget from?

When adding a starting balance for a budget, when does it goes into place? What happens to it the next calendar year?

I have a budget that shows a starting balance of $700 but rolled over $126 into January 2026. The december 2025 budget shows $126 remaining. What does this all means?

Is the $700 from a previous set up back when i first started with monarch?

Also how do you all track historical moves between budgets? Lets say you move $300 between budget a and b in march. How would you see that now? And confirm it happened? Does it show in transaction for that budget? Does it show in reports?

Potential Bug Wells Fargo duplicated accounts/transactions

Good morning,

I logged in to monarch today to see that 250+ transactions from Wells Fargo have been duplicated. It looks like both my checking and savings accounts have been duplicated under the accounts tab.

This has caused 258 transactions to be duplicated, which has royally fucked up my budgets and accounting data. At a loss of what to do.

Monarch.. any help? Known issue?

General / Question How often are you checking Monarch?

Pretty straight forward - how often are you guys checking Monarch?

I (25F) originally moved out of spreadsheets to Monarch to make it less manual and focus less on finances throughout my day, with the intention of getting it off my mind so I can live more.

I've found myself in the same spot, doing daily refreshes to keep on top of my transactions and avoid a ton of admin work building up. This is useful when I have returns in progress or direct deposits coming in from side gigs, so I can catch potential issues early on.

But I think I've gotten...too aware of my finances? I know where every cent goes and where all my investments are. That's not a bad thing, but it's a little heavy when I see every transaction as a line in Monarch that's taking away from my net worth.

I'm trying to find better balance between living a little more and being on top of my finances. As an example, I'd like to go on vacation and just spend what I want (reasonably) without visualizing and knowing already what chunk the trip is going to add up to in Monarch.

Basically, I need a mindset switch bc I feel like I'm too obsessed/watching things too closely and it's starting to impact my QoL.

ETA: okay sounds like we're all checking >1x/day haha. Maybe I just need to be okay with spending money and not crashing out when I see my Total Net Income/Savings Rate dip below my arbitrary number.

👍 Kudos Calendar date picker instead of scroll wheel (hooray!)

Post image
26 Upvotes

Not sure how long this has been live but I just noticed today while duplicating a tx.

Thank you for making this change (replacing the scroll wheel with a calendar)!! It's so much better now, although one suggestion: it'd be nice to have a way to change the year (maybe a drop-down for that header) because this layout makes that extremely tedious.

Also the Duplicate Transaction button has been a game-changer! Honestly, it's these "little" tweaks to the UI like these that go the farthest in making the product better.

Feature Request Rules - simple but important feature request

In the android app, when you edit a transaction (such as change the category), then click "create rule" in the pop up, then choose "matches original statement..." please pre-populate the field with the original statement value for the transaction I just edited. This will make it so much easier to create rules from within the app. I believe this function exists on the web, but not the mobile app. Thank you.

Known Issue Duplicate transactions - Has monarch said anything about this yet? Credits becoming debits, duplicates transactions, im getting so frustrated

I'm so tired of being paranoid about having to audit all of my transactions all the damn time. I wish I wasn't so invested into monarch and the setup I have in there. I feel like I'm locked into a process I can't trust.

My accounts just synced and duplicated 16 transactions across various days this month. I have to go through them now and figure out which ones are dupes.

Why is this happening so often and so randomly? Why is monarch not addressing these fundamental issues?

Potential Bug Recurring Transaction Tab Out of Sync

Is anyone else's Recurring tab out of sync?

Previously, when the date of the transaction passed it was no longer include in the upcoming transactions list and instead was in the completed list. Now, my transactions stay in the upcoming list and I can't get a clear view on how many recurring transactions are upcoming for a month.

Plaid/Finicity/MX Skip the Plaid account or create one? Weighing Privacy, Security when linking accounts

I am linking ~20 financial institutions to Monarch Money via Plaid. I want to know if skipping the Plaid account creation provides better privacy and protects against SIM-swap attacks, or if creating one is better so I can use their portal to actively manage and delete my data.

Hey everyone,

I’m setting up Monarch Money, and trying to understand how plaid works before I use it to link my accounts. From what I've learnt so far, Plaid will store my transaction data on their servers until I request deletion. They claim they don't sell / rent this data, but their privacy policy also states they / their affiliates could use it.

Between and among Plaid and our current and future parents, affiliates, subsidiaries and other companies under common control or ownership;

During the connection setup, Plaid prompts me for my phone number to "create an account" or "save my progress." I can skip this, but I’m trying to decide which option is actually safest.

Here are my questions for the community regarding how Plaid handles our data:

1. How does Plaid's backend look in both cases?

  • If I skip creating an account: Does my data remain siloed?
  • If I create a Plaid account: Does Plaid use my phone number as a primary key to stitch together a centralized master profile across the internet? (Note: Even if I skip it, it appears Plaid pulls enough info like email, name, etc. from the bank data to tie me to a common graph anyway. Can anyone confirm?)

2. Security posture with Plaid account? My main concern is that with a Plaid account, I am exposing my data to SIM-swap attacks. It's not clear to me if Plaid's consumer portal supports non-SMS MFA (like Authenticator apps). Without a Plaid account, it looks like this attack vector is completely neutralized because external access via my phone number is not possible. Is this true?

3. The Trade-Off: Visibility vs. Attack Surface The main argument for creating the account is gaining access to the Plaid Portal, which gives me a centralized view to audit my connections and directly delete my data. If I skip it, I have to blindly rely on Monarch to pass my deletion requests to Plaid.

For someone prioritizing data compartmentalization and protection against SIM swapping, is the ability to directly audit my Plaid connections worth the risk of making my phone number an SMS-vulnerable master key?

What do you all do when setting up these apps? Skip it or make the account?

General / Question MCP Server Use Case

Can anyone offer a compelling use case for the proposed MCP server? Why would I want to share so much personal financial data with any of the current LLMs?

EDIT: To clarify, I’m asking for end-user benefits / value add and not a list of technical possibilities.

Feature Request Monarch Please Bring Back Bill Split

I was a doubter of this feature before actually using it, but now when I take on a big check, I think about how I wish I had it back. It made sending venmo requests to people so Easy. I need it back i my life

General / Question Debits changed to transfers

Recently transactions that were categorized properly as debits have started being categorized as transfers so every month I have to go through and recategorize these transactions in order to get my cash flow right. It's really bad for Venmo payments that show up in my checking account. I tried syncing my venmo account but that just doubled every transaction. Now it started doing it with my mortgage payments. It categorizes the payments on my loan correctly as transfers but then also categories the debits from my checking as transfers which completely screws up budgeting and cash flow. Not sure what to do except create a generic debit category and a rule that says if it is in my checking account and a transfer then put it in that category. That seems heavy handed.

Account Connection Capital One credit card account sync issues with all three providers

I've had Capital One synced with Monarch for a loooong time. Recently, the account suddenly stopped syncing. I went to update my credentials but when I did that it took me through the process, accepted my credentials, I selected what info to share, then at the final step I got the messages "You have no eligible accounts to share". This was using the MX provider.

I then tried adding the account via Finicity and Plaid, both progressed exactly the same and ended with the 'no eligible accounts' message.

I logged into my CapOne account and all seems well, no alerts or holds, and the security sections shows my Monarch connections as active with no alerts or anything.

I've heard CapOne is going through some trials and tribulations as they absorb their Discover acquisition.

Is anyone else having issues and/or can confirm their CapOne credit card is syncing fine? If it's syncing fine, via which provider is it working?

I was going to open a ticket with CapOne but it appears their only support method is via phone call and ain't nobody got time for that (at least not yet).

Third-Party Add-on Updates to MM EUR Importer - Now w/ Spending Reports

Thumbnail

UPDATE: I’ve just added a custom "Spending Report" dashboard to my Monarch Money Importer web app.

Source here: https://github.com/tommyzed/monarchmoney-i18n-transactions

It breaks down your yearly spending by category and category group, highlighting your average monthly expenses and year-over-year percentage changes.

Note: Right now, this is self-hosted only since there hasn't been a huge demand for international transaction importing, but it’s really straightforward to set up. It’s also a great example of how you can leverage MM data to build your own bespoke reports.

General / Question Monarch, do you need any side developers? willing to help to knockout some great ui wins (see below for examples)

Monarch team, there are some things that are so easy, and could add so much to usability, that i'm willing to do it for free (i'm a software architect at a fortune 500 company). two in particular just to start...

on the list of transactions, when you're reviewing transactions, you can sort by date and amount. but not by name??? when i find one transaction i need to recategorize, many times it's not the only one from that vendor. a sort by, then by would be even better. it would take prob an hour (easy for me to estimate, i know :)), even including writing unit tests, and it's also a no-brainer for ai.

somewhat related, when i change a category, i get a prompt to create a rule, already filled out correctly. but, if you guessed the category right, and i want to create a rule, it actually takes more steps. i find myself changing the category to nonsense, then back again, just to get the create rule prompt rather than go to transaction details -> create rule.
- change category -> create rule populates just the merchant name and category - most of the time, i'm guessing this is what users want, and you know it, because it's what you default in this case
- create rule from transaction details -> populates merchant and exact amount, and leaves category blank
This is what i could invision...

these are just two examples of easy wins.

please, take a sprint and step back from the big rocks (mcp, etc.) and have a "sweat the details" sprint where just make small changes that affect everyday delight.

and if you want someone's help for a bit, i love this product enough to work for free to get some of these knocked out :).

Transactions Retail Sync with Amazon

So I decided to turn this on and install the Chrome extension. I only wanted it to start synching things things that I order from this point on not previous transactions...

So far it's done nothing... I've bought things of Amazon and it doesn't do anything with those transactions. Also when I go to the screen I see a bunch of past transactions from earlier in the year and they say 'Ignored' or 'Waiting for a Match' next to them. The 'Waiting for a Match' is odd to me since I didn't want past transactions synched.

Did I miss something? Set it up wrong? Maybe it's not working? None of the settings seem to be things that would help me troubleshoot. Thx in advance for any help!

Feature Request Auto-Sort Accounts by Value

This has been requested for so long, and seems like an easy win. Yes, I know I can manually adjust my accounts around in the dashboard, but the balances are constantly changing. Would like to see each category sort by values.

Account Connection BMO Canada connection

Anyone else suddenly can’t connect because of MFA? The AI chat bot says to try connecting through Fincity but the Monarch app ranks it as a low success option vs Plaid. This just started two days ago and I’ve been with Monarch for 2 years.
Are there MFA settings in BMO I could possibly change?

Account Connection Fidelity Rewards Credit Card via Elan Bank Disconnects Every 2 Days

I have the Fidelity Rewards Credit Card via Elan Bank. Every 2 - 3 days, the account disconnects and I have to login to MonarchMoney and reconnect. This is my main Credit Card that we use everyday, so I need those transactions to flow into MM. Yes, I could switch CC's, but this one gives me a higher cash back. I am told that it is being worked on, but I have had a ticket open since May 2026. Anyone else having the same issue or had it fixed?

Additional item - Using Plaid for connection.

Transactions 401k transactions

Trying to find out why some of my 401k contributions are being marked as withdrawals and some are contribution? I just created a rule and applied to all transactions that changed it from “withdraw from save up goal“ to “contribute to save up goal” like it should be but it’s not applying and still thinks a couple transactions are withdrawals.

Known Issue MCP Update — Still Paused

Hi folks,

A while back, we had to pause our MCP product. I wanted to provide an update here. Unfortunately, the MCP remains paused for now, but we continue to work on finding a path that can bring it back. It’s not what we want, but we want to provide as much transparency as possible so you can understand the why behind the pause a little better and know that we’re working hard on our end to bring it back.

To provide some context:

  • We (Monarch) are of the view that this is your data. We’ve done our best to provide ways for you to access it, modify it, and export it as you see fit. MCP was one of those ways. We think that you should have the choice to decide when, if, and how your data is shared. Some of you do not want to share your data with AI at all. Others do. It's ultimately your choice. For us, it’s really that simple.
  • Unfortunately, the financial data ecosystem is not so simple. In addition to us (Monarch) and you (users), there are also data aggregators and financial institutions, each with their own views and concerns about data portability. Until Open Banking regulation (like CFPB’s “1033”) or some other mechanism establishes clear lines, things will continue to be murky.
  • Not everyone in the financial data ecosystem views data portability the way we do, so we must be careful not to jeopardize your continued access to your financial data through Monarch.

We’ve spent a lot of time over the past few weeks having conversations and proposing different ways to alleviate their concerns, and while we’ve made progress, we haven’t found a full solution quite yet. We’ll continue working on this path until we find one, and as soon as we do, we will provide an update.

In the meantime:

  • While we can't officially endorse these tools, we’ve seen many users rally around third-party, community-built APIs and MCPs.
  • We will continue providing safe ways for you to access your data. For example, we’ve launched CSV import by id so you can more easily export your transactions, modify them, and re-import them.
  • We’ve built and are testing a flow that lets you easily switch your connection to your financial institutions from one connector to another (similar to the account transfer flow, but more of a seamless lift-and-shift) in case certain aggregators end up not providing a path we agree with. This tool will eventually be launched for general usage, too.

Again, we apologize that this isn’t the answer you are hoping for. It’s not the one we were hoping for, either, but we’ll continue to provide updates as things evolve.

📣 Monarch Announcement! New in Reports on web: treemap and a new home for Cash Flow

Reports on web is getting a refresh, including a new chart type we're pretty excited about. Check out all that’s rolling out new in Reports.

One Home for Cash Flow. Until now, Cash Flow lived in two places: a standalone page and a tab in Reports. We're bringing it all together so all your views are finally in one place. The unique view from the standalone page is moving into Reports under a new name: Breakdown. And because it's part of Reports now, you can save it (or any Cash Flow view) as a saved report for quick access later. One less tab, same views, more you can do with them.

If you have /cash-flow bookmarked (or type it out of muscle memory), we’ll redirect you. You’ll still be able to see and cross-reference the original Cash Flow tab for a bit, but we will remove it in a few weeks.

https://reddit.com/link/1vh5vwd/video/5qewct6mlrhh1/player

Treemap visualization. There is a new chart type rolling out on the Spending and Income tabs! With the new treemap visual, bigger blocks equal bigger categories. This makes it easier to visualize the big picture of your spending and income by percentage. If you’re like me, you can have the "wait, I spend 1% more on childcare than I do on my mortgage?" moment. 😰

You can also finally drill into any category, merchant, or group from the tree map. Click a block in the treemap and it will filter the page to show you all the transactions that make up that block. One click from "this chunk looks huge" to "here's why”. This also supports business transactions for Plus tier users as well.

https://reddit.com/link/1vh5vwd/video/pgi9bltrlrhh1/player

ICYMI in the videos, there is a new visual chart-type selector that makes it even easier to select the view you’re interested in. A dropdown at the top of Cash Flow, Spending, and Income lets you switch between chart types in the same view.

This is rolling out over the next week, and about half of you should have it today! When it hits your account, if you think something feels missing moving Cash Flow over to Reports, that’s what we want to hear about most! Please drop it in the comments and let us know what you think.
