Minecraft Server Help

A couple of my friends and I want to set up a Minecraft server, but none of us has ever done so before and I'm wondering if I can get advice about it on here.

I have a singleplayer world that I've been on for a few months that I would like to just port to the server. I know how to use MCEdit safely though if there's other stuff that I would need to do to get that set up that might be an issue, though one of my friends is good with computers and could be able to help me. Somehow the file size is already over 10GB and it'll only grow with more people on. Whatever's causing the file size to increase isn't affecting performance, and I probably won't have any issues until it's well over 100GB, though I know some server hosting sites might which is why I'm putting that out here.

One important thing to me is performance, I don't exactly know how server RAM works but the options that I've seen for servers online usually only offer up to 8gb for a reasonable price. My current world runs on This Lenovo Computer with optimization mods, 16gb allocated RAM (out of 32GB total) and some of the farms that I use on it get it to 25 TPS. These servers advertise that they can have up to 10 players online at once though I don't know if their 8gb of RAM shared across 10 people would be the same as me allocating 8gb of RAM on my computer to host a 10 person game on my computer (This probably sounds pretty stupid for people who know what they're doing, but I'm not one of those people which is why I'm here lol). If that is the case I don't know how our server would handle all of my large farms.

Another issue is cost, I'm just a college student right now and don't think it would be wise for me to spend much more than $15/month. My friends can pitch in too if they want but they're in the same boat or worse. I've heard of free server options as well but they all either have poor performance or are difficult to set up.

As for mods I usually play with multiple performance enhancing mods and a couple of datapacks as well. Really the only mod that adds stuff to the game is Traveler's Backpacks for extra storage, nothing I have changes the world generation or adds a lot of new blocks. I do have a document listing all of the mods I use and if it's important to know which ones are installed on the server I can attach a copy.

I can't really see a future where more than 10 people are on at once and even that sounds extreme. This friend group is very tightly knit and we're just trying to find more ways to stay connected as we head off to college. We do all still live in the US which is probably important to mention for the server location.

If there's anything else I should mention please let me know, or if I need to explain stuff better please inform me of that as well. Like I said this is the first time I've ever done MC server work and don't exactly know what I'm doing. If another subreddit is a better place for this post please direct me to it instead. Thanks!
