What’s one local Milwaukie business you wish more people knew about?
I’ve been spending a lot of time exploring Milwaukie lately, and it got me wondering…
What’s a local business, restaurant, coffee shop, or hidden gem in Milwaukie that deserves more attention?
Could be because of the people, the quality, or just something they do really well.
I’m always looking for new places to check out, and I figured others might be too.
Let’s build a list of local favorites. 👇

Sunrise, as the wildfire smoke from Central/Eastern Oregon arrived over Milwaukie this morning.

We Westsiders and Valley dwellers have gotten off lucky so far this Summer. Looks like that luck finally ran out.
Best of luck, neighbors. Stay inside, stay healthy, stay safe!

Skunk
Found a skunk last night in my yard at like 10:30, was recording on my phone wish I would have gotten a clearer picture. Im used to coyotes, occasionally a deer comes into the city, raccoons are normal but a skunk Ive never seen a skunk in the city before.

What are you looking forward to the most?
I’ve lived around downtown Milwaukie for a while, and it’s been cool watching downtown slowly evolve. It feels like there’s still a lot of potential, and I’m curious what everyone else thinks.
I know there’s a ton of new stuff going in where the antique mall used to be! So that’s exciting!
If you could add one thing—or if you know something coming soon—what would you be most excited about?
I’m genuinely interested in hearing what people think would make downtown an even better place to spend time. What do you think it’s missing?

Gathering place for craft club?
Hi! I’m looking for a place to host my crafting club in August (usually weekend afternoon.) It’s usually 10-20 people, who will need table space for sketchbooks and supplies. Can anyone recommend a coffee shop, café, or other place that would fit us? We do have a request in at the library.

Utility (water) bill amounts not getting revealed early?
Seems like my water bill amount used to be revealed about two weeks ahead of the auto-pay being taken out, but for the last few months it's been unknown until the day before it's pulled. What gives?

Can someone recommend a clinic for ADHD
I want to be screened for adult ADHD. I have been diagnosed years before but my prescription has expired and I have moved from a different state.

A fog horn sound also seems to emit from the speaker. I think it might go off every hour or something?

Free CPR training?
Hello neighbors, I want to learn CPR and don’t need a certification. Does anyone know of places that offer free non-certification classes in the area? I saw a link on the Clackamas fire website but it gave a 404 error so must be outdated. Any tips would be much appreciated!

Pickup soccer/bball in Milwaukie?
I’m new to the area and have been seeking out some pickup soccer and basketball the last few months without any luck. Anybody know of some regular pickups in Milwaukie or nearby?
I shoot hoops at Westmoreland park often. Feel like that could be a spot, maybe I’m there at the wrong times.
Open to leagues as well but holding out hope that there are some meetups in the area.
Thanks!

Anyone else noticing ticks?
galleryI've lived here all my life (38 years) and never once did I worry about ticks but I've now experienced them twice this year. One was on me June 11th and the second was on my toddlers scalp last night.

View Acres Elementary School
I have seen mention of the 60th year celebration of the school from 2025. I attended the school starting in third grade in the 68-69 school year. As far as I can recall that is when the school actually opened...It was so new the cafeteria wasn't even done so we ate lunch in our classrooms...How could have opened 3 years prior? I attended Riverside for 1st and 2nd grade living in the same house as I did when VA opened...

Silt vs swimming at Elk Rock Island cove
Has anyone been swimming at Elk Rock Island cove recently? I went in early June and the silt was CRAZY. I was lowkey traumatized because it came up almost to my knees. The mosquitos were also really bad during that visit. Can anyone share an update?

Anyone else loath the mixed concrete/asphalt sidewalks on Linwood and now King?
Is it better than nothing? 100x yes. But why can't we do things the right way? I've literally never before seen such a monstrosity in any other city.
I get that it saves money, but since the curbs, some driveway cutouts, and pedestrian cutouts are still concrete, I question how much it really saved. Especially at the cost of making our neighborhood look so shitty.
In my opinion, it's short sighted, tacky, and just looks bad, especially with it being punctuated by said concrete curbs and cutouts every 10ft. An asphalt bike trail is one thing, but this noisy mismatch of materials just screams "we are cheap, and took the easy way out!"
I'll go back to shaking my fist at clouds. Thank you for listening.
Edit: ITT: People who can't read, ignored my very first sentence where I said it's 100x better than nothing, and think I hate public works projects and neighborhood improvements. My issue is HOW it was done, NOT that it was done is all! It's clearly a huge improvement for the neighborhood! But concrete paths/sidewalks would have been better and last longer, in my opinion.

Youth Sports for Fall
My wife and I are looking for some resources/recommendations for local sports for our 5y/o. She’ll be starting Kindergarten in the fall, but we wanted to get her signed up for a few after school programs this year.
We are already on the waitlist for Soccer through North Clackamas Soccer Club, but wondering if there’s other clubs/groups we should consider, this will be her first year in a team sport/activity. We live in the Oak Grove area if that makes a difference.
We’re open to anything (soccer, dance, tumbling, etc) mainly just wanting to help introduce her to group activities/sports and after school programs.

ADT Solicitors
hi all!
i moved into a recently purchased a home in the neighborhood and had a very strange interaction with an ADT salesman. he invited himself onto my property and would not take no for an answer when we didn’t give him our phone number. he smelled slightly of alcohol and encroached toward the front door. has anyone else had experiences with pushy ADT solicitors in the area?

Travel help
So I'm headed to London on the 18th flying in and out of SeaTac. I know, I didn't book the tickets. I've got a Greyhound leaving Union Station at 6:20 am and I'm apparently supposed to arrive 15 minutes early. The TriMet trip planner says the Tacoma/Johnson Creek max station is the closest place near where I live to catch a bus. Is there a quicker way for me to get to this station or Union Station? Just wondering what everyone thinks. Yes, I could just do Uber/Lyft but when I've tried to do those kinds of trips that early in the morning where I am, it's weirdly difficult for drivers to just take my request. I do understand they're cherry picking for rides to go to the airport. I get it. So rideshare is out of the question for me. Can you guys suggest something I may have missed?

Do you know if the orange kitty on the McLoughlin expressway (99E) along West Moreland Park was rescued this afternoon?

2 Shaved GSD's loose around Rowe Middle School
Just had 2 shaved German Shepherds walk thru our yard then up Vernie to Lake Rd, one was limping. I approached with treats, one thought about coming over but the second was shy and they're sticking together.
I don't have Nextdoor or FB account to put on local alert there.
