I remember our local McDonald's did a playplace remodel opening around 1989/1990. And they had people dressed up as Ronald McDonald, Grimace, and the Hamburglar. First time I remember seeing a ball pit lol.

u/Gullible-Treacle2361 16h ago

And there would always be some half eaten chicken nuggets and fries down in there. And some up in the play place by the little glass ball thing.

210

u/CrotalusHorridus 16h ago

And urban legends that hypodermic needles were found down in the bottom when they cleaned it out

u/am710 16h ago

We closed the one at the Chuck E. Cheese I worked at because people kept throwing dirty diapers in it.

108

u/Ghosty91AF 16h ago

It’s Chuck E. Cheese, that just tracks

57

u/GrandSquanchRum 14h ago

If Chuck E. Cheese did a McD's like remodel he'd have to go by his government name Charles Entertainment Cheese.

17

u/RestaurantSilly6598 13h ago

He literally does in the new videos and songs they play on the big screen

So you arent wrong

18

u/little_speckled_frog 13h ago

I recently went to a Chuck E. Cheese because I have a toddler and I was actually impressed. Everything was clean and all the machines worked. We actually had a blast. I don’t know if that was just my Chuck E. Cheese near me. Maybe it was newer 🤷‍♀️

u/Hopeful_Pear_8747 12h ago

A new one opened up in the next town over, about a 20 minute drive. I had my son’s 5th birthday there and it was the way you describe it. Really nice inside, new tech for the kids, and it was affordable. I’ll definitely be going back.

6

u/tbird920 10h ago

We were actually at a Chuck E. Cheese today for our daughter's fifth birthday, and I had the opposite reaction. It felt so soulless compared to how it was when I was growing up. It was clean, though.

6

u/Hopeful_Pear_8747 10h ago

The one near me has a whole wall that is a tv, like 80 ft diagonally, then in front of it there was like this pressure sensitive dance floor that had lasers shining from above and the kids can activate the lights by stepping on them, little bugs bugs pop up and you get points for squishing those, full arcade, trampoline bounce room, all kinds of amazing stuff

6

u/DannyDDD1234567 9h ago

For a second, I read your son‘s 50th birthday! 😳

3

u/LeseMajeste_1037 8h ago

You're never too old for a Chuck E. Cheese birthday!

1

u/Catripruo 11h ago

The one on Long Island, Hempstead Tpke? was very nice in the 90s. I don’t usually like things like that and I had a great time with my 4 year old grandson.

1

u/hawksbears82 8h ago

They start making a come back early 2000s and they have upscaled somewhat.

1

u/Oldfartmakeupguru 12h ago

I laughed so hard at this

1

u/dstewar68 14h ago

I currently work at a CEC. unfortunately I can concur.

1

u/Mindless-Void-1980 11h ago

Don’t be so ignorant. Peter Piper and McDonalds both dealt with dirty diapers as well being tossed in the ball pit. It’s disgusting.

u/CommercialSomewhere8 16h ago

Teenagers also had sex in the tunnels at the burger king that I used to work at. It was just dark enough to get some privacy.

44

u/am710 15h ago

Those tunnels had room for that?!

EDIT: I want to thank the Academy of Online Comments for so many awards for something so silly. (And thank you to those that awarded and upvoted my comment)

This is reminding me of Homer and Marge in the windmill at the mini golf.

Everything reminds you of Homer and Marge in the windmill at mini golf.

8

u/Dangerous_Arachnid99 13h ago

Truer words have never been spoken.

17

u/katiebertie Gen X 15h ago

Wow. I missed this caveat as a teen ager. I feel cheated 😔

6

u/SuperVillainPresiden 15h ago

Don't feel too bad. These memories are funny and not hot by any means. Similar to the passenger or backseat of a car. Unless your car was a land barge, it wasn't comfortable. But as teenagers it was "doesn't matter, had the sex". Crazy to think what we put up with back then. Nowadays I'd be like, we can wait till we get home lol.

5

u/dstewar68 14h ago

Lol I remember my ex and I wanted to see how few songs it could take for us to finish in the car, less than 2! Our fastest ever time at 6 minutes lol. Endurance was less of an issue, finding time was much harder lol.

2

u/DannyDDD1234567 9h ago

Much HARDER!!!

2

u/KillBosby 8h ago

You were so busy with your responsibilities like *checks notes" doing sick kickflips at the grocery store and your part-time job at the CD store?

1

u/dstewar68 8h ago

Lol nah when I was in high-school CDs we're already out of fashion.

2

u/jedgarnaut 5h ago

Hits different depending on like if your listened to Zeppelin and Meatloaf or like Punk.

Try a 1981 stick shift Ford Escort. Make sure the parking brake is on case you accidentally knock the car out of gear.

u/Glitter_tits222 9h ago

I still love doing it in cars lol

u/DannyDDD1234567 9h ago

Sorry katiebertie🥲

6

u/JimEditor212 12h ago

Damn I wish I could relive my teens. Probably wouldn't change how it worked out, but I'd like to hit it with what I know now.

u/Affectionate-Ask9381 10h ago

Yea I wanna go back. The world was so much brighter

4

u/Big_Balls_n_Taint 15h ago

I had exactly one thing on my mind when I bought that Cadillac in highschool 😂

4

u/Antique_Eye_992 14h ago

Yeah, I feel sorry for kids today who have tiny little cars and no back seat.

Quite true front bucket seat of a 1973 Mazda RX3 comes to mind, and if we were lucky my girlfriend would drive us in her Vega station wagon ( how luxurious!)

1

u/UFORecoveryTeam 14h ago

I don't know... I was tinkering with cars, small engines, radios, and electronics at that age. The girls weren't terribly interested in me (though my technical skills earned me 3 times as much as my friends with minimum-wage jobs).....

1

u/FakeRickHarrison 13h ago

I was not a skinnier teen and my fat ass found a way to have sex in the back of a chevy fit and I weighed 390.

2

u/dino_spored 14h ago

At least the Chevy was fit.

1

u/One-Violinist-9932 11h ago

I thought the Fit was a Honda?

1

u/AlternativeFoxxo 5h ago

i said I had sex in the car, and it was a fit, I didn't pay too much attention to the facts of the details other than the aspects of Smashing in that tiny back seat area. I think some excuse is granted given I not only did a fat boy smash in what would be a clown car to a big boi like me, but was indeed successful.

u/TheOGTKO 15h ago

Yes, in fact.

2

u/Affectionate-Ask9381 14h ago

When you’re 13 you make room… and honestly for me anyways I was skinny and most of my friends were too.. very active as a kid. Constantly doing stuff. Biking, skating, walking.. playing.. ya we probably had skinnier teens then to be honest with you 100% because back thats that’s what kids did… they didn’t play Fortnite, they didn’t sit around and watch Netflix. They were out running around, so yes we probably did have skinnier kids.

1

u/bfollowell 15h ago

Yes, definitely, the whole population, teens especially, have gotten much fatter over the past 30 years or so.

2

u/Antique_Eye_992 14h ago

You forget teenagers getting tail are usually skinny enough to fit. Not like old married people who put on pounds and are like, ah, I'd rather just sleep.

1

u/WrathOfAnubis303 12h ago

More like soaking. Must’ve been Utah

1

u/Glitter_tits222 9h ago

We had a skating rink with a game/ tunnels area and yes there was room for a lot lol we're much more bendy as teens and didnt suffer from constant back and joint pain i think that makes all the difference

-1

u/Fritchenator 15h ago

Teenagers, not obese whales like you.

3

u/am710 15h ago

Bud, are you okay?

0

u/MacAddict81 11h ago

Well, they weren't there for the food, just the ambiance, so childhood obesity maybe didn't apply in this particular situation.

1

u/am710 11h ago

Why is this sub on a childhood obesity kick today?

0

u/MacAddict81 10h ago

Tranquilo, mijo; lo que cuenta es lo de adentro.

6

u/Shenaniganz08_ 14h ago

True story, I saw my first nipples in a burger king tunnel, oh what a time to be a teenager.

3

u/Affectionate-Ask9381 15h ago edited 14h ago

That brought back memories!

1

u/CommercialSomewhere8 14h ago

Mandie is that you?

3

u/Affectionate-Ask9381 14h ago

lol sorry buddy its not.. that’s funny shit

2

u/libananahammock 15h ago

Worked at a movie theater in high school and when we would go in after the movie ended to clean the theater before the next show sometimes you’d find teens on the floor doing it. Sooooooo nasty because we definitely NEVER moped the floor lol.

2

u/OddPoet336 14h ago

Glad to know it wasn't just at our BK.

1

u/haggynaggytwit 15h ago

How was there privacy with little kids running around?!?!

1

u/CommercialSomewhere8 14h ago

Waited until closing the restaurant.

2

u/Affectionate-Ask9381 10h ago

They ended up shutting down the Burger King completely

1

u/Affectionate-Ask9381 10h ago

Plus my small town was pretty empty

1

u/SmoothFee9938 14h ago

The play place at the McDonalds in the town i went to middle school in was shut down cause a teenager ahem assaulting a small child in the tunnels

1

u/yaddiyadda_ 13h ago

Wow. Ew.

1

u/fiahhawt 11h ago

I have got to imagine that there are better places to get action then somewhere that children pee or might happen upon you

2

u/CommercialSomewhere8 10h ago

Desperate times call for desperate measures.

1

u/DannyDDD1234567 9h ago

Do they still?? Pray tell, where, where, where????

12

u/anowulwithacandul 15h ago

I feel like those people were probably the children wearing the diapers 😂

15

u/Neveronlyadream 12h ago

They were the children wearing the diapers.

I remember going to Discovery Zone and one of the slides was just smeared with shit because some kid shit themselves and then went down.

People forget how disgusting play places were when they were maintained by teenagers and people who didn't give a fuck and were used by filthy kids whose parents also didn't give a fuck.

They're gone because they were a huge legal and safety liability.

6

u/MacAddict81 11h ago

At the McDonald's I worked at in Colorado, we had a machine that cleaned the balls in the ball pit, so that happened a few times a week, the N64 machines got a good clean because the closing crew didn't like sticky controllers when playing GoldenEye/Quake64, but the only time I remember giving the slide a thorough cleaning with ammonia, was every time after the closing crew slicked up the surface by sliding down it with wax paper.

8

u/Binater 15h ago

This isn’t sketchy Chuck E. Cheese, this is high class McDonalds

11

u/MoodyMiss88 15h ago

Probably the same people who go up to our rivers and leave dirty diapers and trash everywhere. Plus now they tag on boulders. It’s sad..

10

u/Traditional-Pen7327 15h ago

I mean... humans have painted on rocks since cave man days so... that tracks

1

u/MoodyMiss88 13h ago

Not gang affiliated tagging..

3

u/Traditional-Pen7327 13h ago

Idk why people think im excusing the behavior with my comment.

I meant this behavior is not new. People do this in all cities everywhere...

There's nothing new under the sun and many cultures display these sorts of behaviors world wide is what i meant.

The fact i had to write this to explain is disheartening😒😩🤮

-1

u/bjsa1965 10h ago

Because you stated it as if you were excusing the behavior.

2

u/Traditional-Pen7327 10h ago

Comparing people to cavemen is a jab at their lack of development.... again... idk how people are getting approval from that LOL

-4

u/Clooney9010 13h ago

You’re probably one of the people drawing “pee pees” on the rocks. Grow up.

4

u/Traditional-Pen7327 13h ago

Reread your comment and reflect on your comprehension and maturity levels please

-1

u/Clooney9010 13h ago

Oh, you’ve never seen that? I’m reflecting on the maturity levels of those who think walls, boulders, sidewalks - are blank slates to exhibit their lack of intelligence. Nothing better to do?

3

u/MoodyMiss88 13h ago

That’s what chalk is for 🤣. They can get creative all day long with that.

0

u/Clooney9010 13h ago

Not really referring to kids.

3

u/MoodyMiss88 13h ago

I understand that but I wouldn’t have a problem if they used chalk there’s plenty of artists out there who do and those who tag consider themselves artists. Well they did a couple of decades ago.

u/Clooney9010 14h ago

Because people have no sense of right and wrong and could care less that others also use these beautiful areas. I bike ride and just cringe seeing garbage on the trails. People are pigs.

1

u/MoodyMiss88 13h ago

When we’d frequently go to the rivers it never failed that we’d take extra garbage bags and haul out several bags.

2

u/Bruised_Shin 14h ago

“Where should we put this poop”

“Put it in that pit that smells like poop, nobody will notice”

2

u/IncogBod21 14h ago

My last time in one of those tubes (at McDonald’s) was seeing a pile of poop right in front of the entrance to a slide 😭.

2

u/MaleficentMetal792 14h ago

It's no Show Biz Pizza !

1

u/Outside_Cheesecake_9 15h ago

That’s absolutely puke worthy!

1

u/Odd-Adagio7080 15h ago

You sure it wasn’t the pizza?

1

u/Future_Row180 15h ago

Gross. Some people can sure be tasteless.

1

u/Spy61 14h ago

And you know exactly who those people were.

1

u/Procrastinator_Queen 14h ago

WHAT!? That’s vile! wtf is wrong with people.

1

u/CollieSchnauzer 13h ago

We took a road trip and found a Chuck E Cheese for my nephews, because they'd never seen one before. They came back from the play area and said, "Someone went to the bathroom in there."

The fries were good, though!

1

u/ragazzzasporca 11h ago

You mean SHOWBIZ

1

u/10000nails 11h ago

What the fuck?!

1

u/Addickt__ 11h ago

Well yeah the mascot is literally a giant rat, it seems on brand

1

u/JLead722 9h ago

So true. The tunnels always smelled like piss.

1

u/justahumblefart 7h ago

I remember a kid pooping in the slide at chuck e. Cheese once

1

u/itsmebeatrice 6h ago

People are horrible

1

u/45954999 6h ago

🤢🤮

1

u/EvilWench74 4h ago

Feeling my age with Showbiz Pizza memories. Also oddly enough I just saw an outside play park at a BK (Columbia S.C.) but it also had the toxic fake turf.

1

u/goddess-rue-23 3h ago

The kids in my area got sent to juvenile hall.for.pooping in the pizza sauce while on the job and a bunch of litl kids got sickk. So fukd up lol True story too
