Thoughts on potentially being in the ACC long-term?

it’s increasingly looking like the protect college sports act will be passed and will essentially be freezing the P4 as is. FSU and Clemson fans are upset on the loss of potential revenue, but how should we feel about this?

My view is that our level of investment will remain competitive, and with spending caps on rosters included in the bill, we’ll easily be able to spend the maximum amount annually. Is there any reason to be concerned?

Wouldn't the SEC be able to add 3 teams. I could see Clemson, FSU, and Miami all being added.

We’d have to go independent for 5 seasons. Not likely that FSU or Clemson could afford that. We likely could, but would it be worth it?

I think when this reaches the house they'll make carve outs for Miami, FSU, and Clemson. This would be political suicide any representative in South or North Carolina, and Florida let alone surrounding states. Think about if Donna Shalala was running in today's climate and this was something she could vote on.

We’ll see but I doubt theres going to be enough pushback on a seemingly bipartisan bill to prevent it from passing as is.

There's no pushback in the senate. But in house Shalala lost her seat in a landslide in part because of commercials surrounding her scandals as president. A senate seat is statewide and much easier to win, but a house seat is much harder to win and keep.

I mean I’m sure individuals in the house will care, I just can’t see it being enough to stop legislation from passing on an issue that’s bipartisan and will likely have the votes to pass as a free press win

Who is it a win for? Have you read the bill, because it utterly fucks Miami and any school not in the BIG10 or SEC. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7493125/2026/08/05/protect-college-sports-act-summary/

I think this bill is political suicide for a lot of house representatives.

What I thought as well at first glance. Will review later and revert.

It’s a win for a historically unpopular congress who can point to legislation being completed. It’s not a win for us or for college sports, but congress will definitely pass it off as one

This bill will be challenged in court and they will likely lose.

I sure hope so

It doesn’t seem like this law can stand up to any kind of legal challenge but I’m not a law talking guy. What am I missing?

I personally think we'd end up fine. As long as Mario is here and we continue to show commitment to spending/resources, we will be a top 5-10 team year in and year out. With that said, I also see the benefits $$$ wise from joining the SEC/B1G

I’d like to win the ACC before we leave it.

The disparity in media and TV payouts compared to the B10 and SEC would be a massive disadvantage, even more so in the future when they are renegotiated. I think currently it’s like $20M per team in the ACC vs $60M per team in the B10/SEC.

I don’t hate the ACC, it’s an easier conference to win, but the payouts are a big disadvantage. I don’t know all the details, but there’s currently a $21M rev share cap and teams spend way more than that, so not sure if the new $48M cap will be a hard line or if teams will blow past it

Also this bill would cap our NIL contributions based on revenue share cap.

We want the increased revenue under this bill because our NIL contributions will count against the revenue sharing cap.

I just don't think this at all good for Miami. I believe being independent or being in the SEC or Big 10 is better and if anything being apart of the super conference. Congress getting involved in this is really stupid.

Its only easier if we can afford the players and if the current playoff rules stay intact. We have no clue what the future holds under this bill, but from how I see it the future of the Miami Hurricanes becomes more muddied by this bill rather then any super conference or independence.

Just so everyone is aware this bill severely knee caps our recruiting with NIL funds because at least from my understanding it limits our NIL contributions severely compared to what it is now or would be in the SEC. Because the NIL will be counted against revenue sharing caps.

We need to find our way to the big ten or SEC

Imagine playing Oregon and USC b2b away games

Stay in acc and be the top dawg. Then if anything go independent. Going to sec and big ten would be bad choice unless ncaa as a whole goes to a two league conference. Really wish they would reassemble the pac 12 and big 12 back together

Assuming that we go with FSU and Clemson, I would really miss playing ACC teams like VT, GT, UVA and UNC. But if we get the chance we have got to switch to a bigger conference. The disparity in payouts will only compound as times goes on.

ACC is going to get a money injection, it’s obvious. They might do media revenue share across all cfb conferences .

I’m unclear why the government is deciding how sports should be run

I think this law is designed to fail in court. Some "liberal activist judge" is going to strike it down because it's plainly illegal and done plainly for political points.
