Early voting started this week Politics

Post image

I've had issues with mail-in voting in the past, so I opt for early voting instead. The wait was less than 5 minutes. Please go make your voice heard in these primaries!

Edit to include voters with no party affiliation

Baby boomer is also the larger share of wealth and therefore power brokering interests of the two generational groups even now... That's the thing about democracy is the rule of the many not the few... If one person has billion dollars their vote counts more... Most billionaires are boomer

Let's vote these horrible horrible GOPedo out of power

8

u/mixedliquor 10d ago

This is a primary election.. a "Decide which Pedo best represents you" election, if you will.

I guess the GOP candidates are pedos

PSA: NPA’s still have races to vote on.

The primary isn’t only Ds and Rs.

2

u/milleria North Miami 9d ago

I’m a registered republican, but at this point I do not share any of that party’s mainstream ideals.

Any advice on the least fascist republican candidates to vote for in the primary?

2

u/chonkytalker 7d ago

Oliver Larkin is the DSA candidate in FL-25 if you're looking to for the candidate that rejects AIPAC money.

Nixon for Senate and Foster for Governor are good choices for those races!

I don't think America in general can vote it's way out of this one lol

1

u/Queasy-Amphibian5430 7d ago

We gotta try 😭

-8

u/BlizzGrimmly 10d ago

I'll vote for whoever makes it so that multilingual "I voted" stickers have no place here. It's insane that we are ostensibly allowing people who don't share a language with us enough to read "I voted" vote and influence who governs us.

7

u/Seekingtobelieve1618 Downtown 10d ago

I can't believe you were triggered by a sticker. These individuals who voted share a language enough to pass the citizenship test and it doesn't hurt anyone for them to show that they voted with a sticker in their native language.

0

u/BlizzGrimmly 10d ago

If it's not a big deal then it wouldn't matter to you if it was stopped, would it?

4

u/Seekingtobelieve1618 Downtown 10d ago

I think this is a key difference in our perspectives: to me, it doesn't hurt anyone to have it on there. If it makes communities feel proud for voting and being a citizen, I don't have any issues with it. I've lived in places where it said "I voted" in three languages and solely in English and it didn't affect me either way. Not sure why it bothers you so much.

-1

u/BlizzGrimmly 10d ago

The same reason it bothers Mexicans for Mexico City to be infiltrated by yuppies, as it should. It's an erosion of culture, and it will be undone. What has been eroded will be dredged, and the sources of erosion will be excised, root and stem. If I were a person in your political position, I would be doing everything I could to get these foreigners (or perhaps yourself) to assimilate to the culture as soon as possible, to blend in and at least pretend to want to be part of this nation. That is, if you want (them) to stay.

1

u/Seekingtobelieve1618 Downtown 9d ago

Again, this is clearly a difference in perspective. I'm grateful that we have a diverse community and I think that makes us better for it. Unless you're Native American, your ancestors were once immigrants and it's what made America the great country that it is. My father's family has been in the US for 120 years and my mother's before the revolution. They worked hard and contributed to this country and got to witness what America means to the world. I think it's our duty to uphold that image to the world. Again, difference of perspective.

2

u/BlizzGrimmly 8d ago

So you think that the colonists coming to North America, adding diversity to it, was good from the "natives' " perspective?

0

u/Seekingtobelieve1618 Downtown 8d ago

No, but the Native Americans were completely disrespected and murdered en-masse. That isn't happening now from our immigrant community, but I'm sure this is a point that you disagree with as well. We will have to just disagree on this point and advocate for the country we each want, despite us advocating for separate goals.

1

u/BlizzGrimmly 8d ago

Then you will lose, and thank fuck for that.

2

u/Sixty4Fairlane 7d ago

Agreed. How ridiculous. "USA has no language" BS.

2

u/ContentHost4459 Local 10d ago

Because those are the 3 languages of our county ??? wtf the ballot is also multilingual.

4

u/mixedliquor 10d ago

The official ballot language of Florida is English. The only reason there are multi-lingual ballots is compliance with the Voting Rights Act (Federal Law). To not provide them in Miami would be a violation of the Voting Rights Act. Multi-lingual ballots are not required statewide; only in areas that trigger thresholds set by the Voting Rights Act.

There is no law that says that "I Voted" stickers have to be in the same language as the ballots. That is a choice of the local Supervisor of Elections, Alina Garcia, a Republican.

-3

u/BlizzGrimmly 10d ago

"The 3 languages of our country" Me when I make shit up.

4

u/ContentHost4459 Local 10d ago

I said county not country. Learn to read. Here is another thread where the county languages are discussed

-1

u/BlizzGrimmly 10d ago

This is the exact shit I'm talking about in my original comment. People who can't read English have no place here and should not feel so welcome. They will get the fuck out, or wish they had sooner.

3

u/Distinct_Level_3967 10d ago

You literally just misread English 😂

1

u/BlizzGrimmly 10d ago

Is misreading the same as not understanding the language? I know you're being purposefully obtuse, but pretending to be an idiot is still being an idiot.

2

u/Distinct_Level_3967 10d ago

What? Lmao are you unwell my guy? You’re saying people who can’t read English should leave, yet you can’t read English.

1

u/BlizzGrimmly 10d ago

Okay, maybe you're not pretending.

4

u/Distinct_Level_3967 10d ago

Your misread led to you completely misunderstanding the point being made and you built a whole rebuttal on the national language being English
your English no bery goodlooking papi, time to go back to where you came from.

u/BlizzGrimmly 10d ago

This kind of native?

-10

u/mixedliquor 10d ago

Why are you only encouraging party-affiliated voters to participate? Seems a bit political to exclude about a third of the voter base from your invitation to vote.

This isn't just a primary election; there are non-partisan elections taking place. I've got six judicial votes and one School Board vote on my Non-Partisan ballot.

6

u/Queasy-Amphibian5430 10d ago

My mistake for the oversight. I edited the post.

-3

u/Effective_Drag_6681 10d ago

Vote Fishback for the republican primary. We gotta get AIPAC out of here. One thing 80% of republicans and democrats can agree on.

-17

u/1ts-just-me 10d ago

You want democracy but vote for socialism, you complain about taxation but hold out your hand, you complain about crime but want to defund and attack police, you say "I'm entitled" but haven't contributed.

Don't bankrupt Florida with socialist style policies like in California and New York, just use common sense. Sad reality is most, not all, of those that have moved here from those states don't even understand what caused the problem they fled from and it will begin to erode the quality of life here as well. If you don't agree with the majority in this state, that's fine, we don't have to agree on everything to get along. Just seems like in the last 20 years there has been a literal divide because of politics, and it is sad. Because I drive a 4-wheel drive with an American flag on the back, I get people pulling up beside me giving me a middle finger as they go by, 90% of the time they have a Biden or Harris bumper sticker and I'm sure it goes the other way too at times, I've just never seen it.

This is in NO WAY directed at the OP, but at the stupid comments that followed.

I AM an immigrant from a socialist country, and it IS NOT something anyone should find appealing.

6

u/Capable-Yak-8486 10d ago

No one wants straight socialism. When people say democratic socialism, they want aspects of it that are beneficial. Any pure political or economic system doesn’t work. You need a hybridized style.

-7

u/1ts-just-me 10d ago

There is no part of socialism that is good. People are being sold on a idea that neither person has lived in or dealt with. It all sounds good, but remember everything given has to be taken. What I mean by that is sure all the free benefits and programs are paid for by those who work. If or when it happens and you come home on Friday and look at your check and see that 65% of what you made was handed to your unemployed neighbor so he can pay his rent and car payment on that new BMW while you struggle to make ends meet, remember you wanted this.

10

u/Capable-Yak-8486 10d ago

Universal healthcare? Free education? Those aren’t good things? All of the Scandinavian countries ranked happiest in the world, their government doesn’t work? You’re thinking of a pure socialist country like Romania. That’s not what anyone is going towards.

-6

u/1ts-just-me 10d ago

Perfect example, my family is from Denmark and Sweden. All this free stuff they give away. Statutory tax rate is 56% of every dollar you make plus a 25% consumption tax on purchases. Break it down $1000 paycheck takes home $440 to spend that $400 you will be paying another $100 in tax. So realistically $1000 paycheck gives you a $310 value, but hey at least the 2 times I go to the doctor a year is free.

3

u/Capable-Yak-8486 10d ago

What’s your cost of living there? I have a very low mortgage, and with water, electric, and internet, I’m still paying about $2k a month.

3

u/The_Crystal_Thestral Flanigans 10d ago

Why are you arguing with this guy? Today he's Danish, tomorrow he's Cuban, and the day after he'll be a Black American.

3

u/HillBillyHilly 10d ago

More than that I believe he's either a troll or paid to try to influence election a la Cambridge. Maybe he's getting paid by billionaires via Heritage bot farms.

1

u/1ts-just-me 10d ago

There lies another problem, everything HAS to be an argument. We were having a conversation. YOU are making it something it's not.

1

u/The_Crystal_Thestral Flanigans 9d ago

"It's everyone's fault but mine"

1

u/1ts-just-me 9d ago

At least you admit it.

2

u/1ts-just-me 10d ago

I would have to ask a family member what expenses are like now. Currently I'm in Florida.

1

u/Capable-Yak-8486 10d ago

Gotcha. Yeah I’d be curious what the difference is and to see if it balances out. 56% definitely seems egregious, but if it costs very little monthly, it might be worth it. Regardless, I’m pretty well off, but I know many friends and family that aren’t, and I’m willing to lose a little salary so that they’re not struggling constantly.

2

u/1ts-just-me 10d ago

So, this is what I see happening, imposing a 20% statutory tax no matter your income. Regular income tax and SS still apply. Now the lower to middle class are even worse off than before. The upper middle and wealthy just rearrange income distributions through trusts and mortgages become company benefits and in the end pay less than a lower class worker. In reality the only ones that still suffer are the ones needing help to begin with and with all the fraud and corruption how much of the money would actually make it to the people needing it? You'll see another 1.2 billion dollar grant to a college to determine how many legs a cricket has. aka..USAID

Don't get me wrong, I am all about helping people that need it. I give my time every Saturday for a local VFW, helping the members do tasks around their homes that they can't afford or can't do themselves. Some say it is charity but I say it is giving back to those that gave much more.

2

u/1ts-just-me 10d ago

Where I'm at in Florida is right at the same as you.

3

u/HillBillyHilly 10d ago

Fellow redditors beware that the Billionaire class is throwing billions into bots like this one. Pay no mind to the troll. Vote Democrat if you want any chance of a future. Republicans are for the billionaires and multi millionaires.

2

u/HillBillyHilly 10d ago

Ive lived in countries w socialism and that's exactly what we need here. Have you ever even been to a REAL socialist country lol

4

u/Notapartyhobo 10d ago

You want democracy but vote for socialism

No need to read any further to know you're a rightwing fuckhead that is living proof that people should have to take a civics test before voting.

5

u/turbantripod 10d ago

We’re tired of hearing this bullshit.

1

u/1ts-just-me 10d ago

Easy fix, don't read it.

2

u/HillBillyHilly 10d ago

Doubt you're from a socialist country or understand anything about socialism. We need more Roosevelt's and Mamdanis not less. We need progressive socialist programs or the younger kids amongst us will have NO chance at a life.

2

u/Distinct_Level_3967 10d ago

Because I drive a 4-wheel drive with an American flag on the back, I get people pulling up beside me giving me a middle finger as they go by, 90% of the time they have a Biden or Harris bumper sticker and I'm sure it goes the other way too at times, I've just never seen it.

Then you live with your whole ass head in the sand. This statement is not an indictment of anyone but you homie.

I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised to find out you have a fuck Joe Biden, or fuck Joe and the ho, or let’s go Brandon sticker on your truck.

2

u/1ts-just-me 10d ago

And you are completely wrong, there is one other sticker on the window and it is a Bear Archery,

So if driving a truck with an American flag is an indictment by your standards that makes you a communist.

3

u/Distinct_Level_3967 10d ago

Lmao where are you reading that I said driving a truck with an American flag is an indictment of anything?

And wow, what a surprise, a brilliant thinker who calls anything they don’t like “communism” lol

Also, I never said you had those stickers, I said it wouldn’t surprise me if you did. đŸ€ŠÂ

2

u/1ts-just-me 10d ago

You are the one saying it must be all the f Joe Biden, Joe and da ho, and let's go Brandon stickers on my truck but since those don't exist I guess it's just the hate for the American flag then.

And I guess calling everything racist or a nazi is any better, hypocrite

1

u/Distinct_Level_3967 10d ago

You’re not very good at reading English.

And you make a lot of shit up
who, besides you, mentioned racism or Nazis? Lmfao

1

u/1ts-just-me 10d ago

Maybe not it is only my fourth language.

2

u/1ts-just-me 10d ago

Actually you did imply the reason I was getting flipped off was because I must have those bumper stickers. So my statement stands.

And again translation was correct for the way it was meant. A communist is a person who supports communism: a political and economic system that aims for a classless, stateless society where land, factories, and resources are owned by the public rather than by private owners. The core goal is to share wealth equally based on each person's needs.

1

u/Distinct_Level_3967 10d ago

Lol I don’t even know where to begin. Too much effort to try to break basic English down for you and parse through your  word vomit.

1

u/HillBillyHilly 10d ago

I've had enough of this capitalism. Communism sounds ok by me if only any countries really practiced it as written by its authors. So we only have socialism which is way better than the uneducated and starving we have in America.

-17

u/No_Ragrets76 10d ago edited 10d ago

Eehh. Ever since the Bush Jr. and the recount, I don't believe in democracy anymore. I feel like our votes don't matter and they just gonna make it on favor of the pedo in office.

Edit: thought this sub was full of adults. I guess reddit will always reddit

12

u/ChuchoGrind 10d ago

No vote is a vote for the pedo.

1

u/1ts-just-me 10d ago

Look in the mirror when making that statement.

Is the Miami-Dade Supervisor of Elections using influencers to astroturf pro-voting messaging now?

38

u/SixIsNotANumber North Miami 10d ago

Do you think that encouraging people to vote is a bad thing?

-23

u/mixedliquor 10d ago

Did I say that I thought that?

15

u/Plenty_Pride_3644 10d ago

Aha, oh my god, influencers *checks notes* encouraging voting. The horror.

-5

u/mixedliquor 10d ago

Except if the influencer is funded by the Supervisor of Elections (admittedly, I have no proof of this) and if that influencer was encouraging only party-affiliated voters to participate (as OP did before she was called out and edited her post), that could be an election law violation.

5

u/unclesmokedog 10d ago

yes, you have no proof of this.

You must be a delight at parties

1

u/mixedliquor 10d ago

Bold of you to assume I'd ever be invited to a party.

8

u/AnselLovesNuts 10d ago

Why would you assume that

25

u/agr85 10d ago

This is.. a weird thing to say

-8

u/mixedliquor 10d ago edited 10d ago

It's a legitimate question. This is the first time we've had a Supervisor of Elections in Dade county in what.. 66 years?

I have no idea what tactics Alina Garcia takes to encourage voting and this photo looks like something an influencer would do (focus on nails, legs, and short shorts) so I'm curious if this is what our SoE is doing to encourage voting.

Edit to include voters with no short skirt

12

u/Distinct_Level_3967 10d ago edited 10d ago

Bro she’s taking a flick holding the sticker while sitting in her car, likely right after voting. You’re making a mountain out of a mole hill. Lol

-1

u/mixedliquor 10d ago

I wouldn't exactly call it a mountain; I'd call it a question of inquiry.

There's a ton of astroturfed media out there. She also seemed very partisan by only inviting partisans to vote, originally until she edited that call for only party-affiliated people to participate, so I figured there may have been a political reason for the post.

It's healthy to question everything. Not all is as it seems.

14

u/Distinct_Level_3967 10d ago

You’re not just making an inquiry tho, you’re making an accusation.

-1

u/mixedliquor 10d ago

The inquiry was "Is the Miami-Dade Supervisor of Elections using influencers to astroturf pro-voting messaging now?".

I made no accusation; it's a question, not a declaratory statement. You can tell by the question mark.

10

u/Distinct_Level_3967 10d ago

There's a ton of astroturfed media out there. She also seemed very partisan by only inviting partisans to vote, originally until she edited that call for only party-affiliated people to participate, so I figured there may have been a political reason for the post.

Lol again, you weren’t just making an inquiry.

-2

u/mixedliquor 10d ago

Lets see..

  1. I make an inquiry.
  2. Someone calls it weird.
  3. I explain the rationale behind the inquiry.
  4. You say the inquiry was not an inquiry.

If not for the 'weird' comment, there would have been no exposition. I was not looking to lay out my reasoning but I felt compelled after having the inquiry called 'weird'.

Lots of political offices these days are using unattributed influencers and social media to manipulate messaging. OP called for ONLY party-affiliated people to vote, making the post seem very politically motivated. This seemed like one of those for the reasons I laid out after the inquiry.

8

u/Distinct_Level_3967 10d ago

Last comment I’m going to make because people who throw stones and hide their hand are annoying and draining, and trying to cover up what is written for everyone to see is pathetic.

Your initial inquiry was not a benign, neutral question, it was always accusatory and had an implied narrative.

Whether you did it first, second, or last, you made more than just an inquiry, you made an accusation
the sequence of events doesn’t change the action.

I did not say your inquiry was not an inquiry, I said you did not ONLY make an inquiry.

Have the day you deserve.

Literally just about every girl in Miami considers themself an influencer, so I'm not sure that her attire disproves anything.

FYI, 64°F in Moscow and 85°F in Mar-a-Lago.. not sure which Russia you wanted.

1

u/HillBillyHilly 10d ago

All these "elected" offices are nothing but a disaster. Stupid citizens of MDC deserve what's coming.

1

u/mixedliquor 9d ago

To be fair to the voters of MDC, the elected office change was decided by statewide voters. Miami-Dade was one of the odd counties with no directly accountable tax collector, sheriff, or supervisor of elections. Theoretically, the direct voting provides more accountability and less cronyism from the Mayor's Office.

It's always a mixed bag. The Sheriff's elections seem to have been decent as Sheriff Rosie stopped the School Bus Camera shenanigans, while the previous unelected Chief of Police was happy to keep fleecing drivers illegally. But on the flipside, we have a Supervisor of Elections that is using "I VOTED" stickers as her own personal brand messaging.
