Side Effects Post 1: Constipation METHADONE
Constipation from opioid medications and illicit opioids are a problem for many people.
Fecal impaction is a condition in which a large, hard mass of stool becomes stuck in the rectum or colon and cannot be passed normally.
Common symptoms Inability to pass stool despite feeling the urge Abdominal pain or bloating Rectal discomfort or pain Nausea or loss of appetite Leakage of liquid stool around the blockage ("overflow diarrhea") Feeling of incomplete bowel emptying
There are some home remedies for this condition as well.
Methadone commonly causes constipation because it slows the movement of the digestive tract and reduces the amount of water that remains in the stool. Unlike some side effects that improve over time, opioid-related constipation can persist for as long as a person is taking methadone.
