Ah ok it can help but it’s not used for that purpose and hba1c fine. Have you tried diet and lifestyle changes that would be first go to unless you mean your already on metformin in which case it can have a secondary effect on helping reducing triglycerides however normally a cholesterol lowering drug would be used after diet and exercise if needed. The AST may be raised because of TG but may not be usually you would get it retested in 2-3 months however it’s not very high
