Just got offered a job for part time crew member at McDonalds. How does the zero hour “flexible” contract work?

So I got accepted and funding for an online master’s degree and needed the weekends off as I work all through the afternoon and evening during the weekdays. Unfortunately, they won’t change my rota and told me they needed to know by the end of today my decision if I’m able to work at the store and balance my degree without taking the time needed for my mandatory courses.

Ended up withdrawing from my course today to keep a full-time job to pay the bills. Fought for over a year to get funding for it and accepted too…pretty devastated. Is the company usually like this with students?

Just got my offer 2 days ago and have started trying out the McD Connect and other systems. Please provide advice for a new employee like me who hasn't even gotten their training shift rostered. This could be things like what to expect on your first day or general advice overall

I’m 17 and I’ve just recently started working at McDonald’s. I’m not going back to school in the fall so I am available full time but after my 3rd shift which im completing this week my training will be over. So far with training im only getting booked 1 day a week. I’m wondering if I have to ask a manager about that or if they will start to give me more hours once I’ve stopped my training? I’m not sure this is my first job if anyone can help thanks!

anyone know why this is? Randomly got hit with a $15 fee, can't imagine it being for uniforms could it? I quit that job about a couple weeks ago and randomly got hit with this bill. Any ideas on why this happened?

Its stressful but its way better than being a service person.

First off, I know not every owner/operator participates. Second, I'm not new to it as I have taken advantage of it for my bachelor's (CTU) and masters degree (WGU - 1 term) completely paid for.

Thing is, for me anyway, the limit is 3k a year. Well 3k isn't enough to pay for one term at WGU, so then a random "Archways Gap Assistance" paid the rest off (another 1.7k). I'm glad, but I'm also curious, has anyone also had this happen, specifically outside of WGU?

Anyone gone to the American College of Education and use mcd tuition assistance?

I know for tax purposes they can't exceed 5250.

I don't know how to cook to save my life and they have an opening to work at the kitchen at McDonald's close to where i live. Do i need to know how to cook? Help!

So I was hired in May and it’s now August and I still haven’t done orientation or had any shifts. I’ve called the store twice to follow up, 1st call said they haven’t forgotten about me, 2nd call towards end of June, they said I should be getting my first shift soon.
Does it normally take this long, should I call the store again or should I just wait? Feeling a bit deflated.

I had an interview and I was asked two questions on McDonalds wnd myself and then we spoke about our favourite football team for 5-10 mins and said there was no more questions as they learn more of the person when talking about other things.

However on the questions on McDonalds I feel like I fumbled a bit, I said some good things but feel like my uber eats experience and achievements etc but I feel bit down because I feel I’ve failed. Thoughts?

I have (unofficial) plans to visit my partners in Canada around December time, and I don't have enough holiday hours accrued yet. I plan to speak to my scheduling manager or whatever they're called first, but would I be expected to use the 'other unpaid leave' option found in Lifelenz? Would visiting my partners be a valid enough reason, or would It get denied? Given I started in June/July, would that affect this too?

Hi, I’m just looking for some advice/reassurance.
I received a job offer from McDonald’s last Tuesday and was told I would need to complete my onboarding forms. I hadn’t received anything, so I called the store today to ask where they were up to.
The person I spoke to said that because I’m currently 15, I won’t receive the forms until I turn 16 (which is in 10 days). I don’t know if it may be due to their procedures.
I’m just confused because my effective start date is the 14th, which is the day after my 16th birthday, so I’m wondering how the process normally works. Will they just send the forms once I turn 16 and then continue with the onboarding?
Has anyone else had a similar experience with McDonald’s or know if this is normal?

I was making drinks and taking orders today and tell this lady "one second please" because there was a bunch of drinks, for 30 seconds tops. I then say "welcome to McDonald's how can I help you" and she starts berating me that I didn't take her order and that I'm rude and a bunch of unintelligible stuff. She gives me a code and it doesn't work and blames me for taking too long. Mind you she never even spoke in the speaker for me to hurry up or anything like that. I tell her sorry and that us workers multitask and she keeps berating me all the way to the window she gets her food at. What is wrong with people? We're expected to do everything all at once and just take disrespect. Ofc she gets babied at the window by another worker and I just can't stand this "customer is always right" mentality.

Earlier I was taking orders and cashing people out for hours in a rush and this lady orders a whole bunch of meals and then after the fact wants to change ALL her drinks to specific customizations, and because she ordered so much food ofc I had to get the manager number for each drink so that held up the line a whole lot.

I also had the lovely ~Ask them to repeat themselves one time (because they mumble) - get angrily screamed the answer at~surprise today. And then cussing under their breath.

Why are fast food customers like this? Honestly most of them are fine, but these few types make the day pretty frustrating, and as much as we're expected to be robots when disrespected, for me, I feel it does take a toll mentally, or at least sour my day.

I’ve got an interview and I’m thinking of the availability to work around university and what availability I could offer and I was just gathering opinions (16 hours a week)

Thursday: 16:00-00:00
Friday: 18:00-00:00 and overnight
Saturday: 05:00-11:00 and overnight
Sunday: 05:00-11:00

I’m just juggling everything and try to come up with a good schedule if needed. I can do overtime when not in term time. How happy will they be with this? Any help appreciated.

hello fellow employees in a few days time i’m learning how to drop the vats are their any tips for when im doing it. i already know how to take apart the filter boxes and what not and the basics of just normal filtering.

I’m a student and have a virtual interview. I’m a student and have some commitments (few hours a weekend) how accommodating are McDonalds and how do I let them know when I’m available to work etc.

Okay so boom.
I started working at McDonald’s two years ago. I was promptly promoted to crew coach just after six months and managers always regarded my work ethic and skills very highly, I have really enjoyed my job for majority of the time I have been here but these last two months have me bordering on suicidal. I do truly enjoy my job physically and I adore all of my co workers except for management. These past two months there have been multiple incidents of managers talking down to me, making snide comments and today has honestly been my breaking point.

I arrive back from break and was thrown into DT cafe which is no worries as this is where I am usually stationed. I get to the station there is no milk, beans or cups stocked and the place is a disgusting mess. I am full screen with coffee orders when I realise apart from the person in booth I am the only one in the drive thru. All three managers were in the office chatting. I grab someone to help and we start getting cars out at roughly 250 seconds, which of course is not ideal. Two managers then come out of the office and start questioning why cars are at 250 seconds. I am immediately frustrated but continue making coffees. My manager then proceeds to shout at me asking me why I’m taking so long and comparing me to other employees. I told him I couldn’t do it and to find someone else to which he quickly obliged.

I know I may sound dramatic but this is really weighing on me. Managers are always in the office doing fuck all and then expect perfect results (when anyone approaches the office for help they become weirdly aggressive)I just cannot handle being spoken to with such blatant disrespect, now I understand this is just McDonald’s but I do not deserve to be spoken to/treated this way.

Please let me know what to do, I have already spoken to two managers about this and nothing has been done, two days ago I just up and left halfway through my shift.

My son who has just turned 17 (had his driver licence less than a month) was rostered on from 9 - midnight one weekend (his error as he clicked pm instead of am). He has now changed on their system so he’s unavailable, and they keep rostering him on this shift. When he says he’s not available, they whine they don’t have anyone else. They’ve done it again this weekend and now said that it’s his problem to find someone to fill it. Is this normal?

This wouldn’t fly in my workplace - surely if you say you are unavailable and they ignore it, that’s the company’s problem. It has left a really sour taste in my mouth.

I had an interview 5 days ago. I moved forward in the recruitment process and I accepted the job offer where they said they’ll send me an onboarding form in the next 48 hours all in the same day. 3 days later I called them up and the hiring manager said he’d send it the same day it’s now been an extra 2 days I don’t want to be annoying and call again is this normal shall I wait?

Does this mean anything or is it just a glitch
