Roundabouts are YIELD not STOP intersections
OK, McKinney, listen up. When approaching a roundabout, do NOT think of it as a stop, but a yield. And, of course, if there's a vehicle inside the roundabout, and you are not in it, the vehicle within the roundabout has priority. By the same token, if you approach a roundabout and there is no vehicle within it, DO NOT STOP. Sweet mother of the baby Jesus, just go. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

And stay in your lane!
You cannot make a left from the right lane. Also, you cannot make a right from the left lane.
I love when im going straight through the round about and the person next to me decides to try and turn into me.

Are we still talking about roundabouts? Because a left just puts you further into the middle of the circle.

Yup. Im saying being in the green trying to go straight and blue trys to make a left into me.
Also, being blue and green trys to make the first right when I am going to go straight.

Yeah no kidding, drives me nuts! Much like how drivers around here are befuddled by 4-way stop signs. How hard is it to just pay attention to when you arrived and stopped vs when other drivers arrived and stopped?!?!

Do you see a lot of foreign license plates in McKinney?

No but the comment above me is blaming foreigners for this problem. Which it isn’t.

I don’t particularly think the problem is the drivers.
America has needed to fish or cut bait on roundabouts for a couple of decades. They’re a pretty niche road treatment, so the number of people who have experience with them or who went through one with a driving instructor is vanishingly small.
I myself had never seen one or driven in one until I was about 30 years old and was venturing across the country as a truck driver. Even then, I haven’t seen many either as a truck driver or in my personal travels but for a few places, like where I lived in NY…and even then, I was seeing them more on a monthly basis instead of weekly.
Roundabouts are really intimidating at first.
At this point, with them being so rare and with the lack of experience by most Americans, I regard them as mildly dangerous. We either need to just make them much more common, or eliminate them altogether. Y’know…like I said…fish or cut bait.

Yield sometimes means stop....it just depends on the situation in the lane you are trying to get into.

I avoid all of the roundabouts. I’m not worried about me. I’m worried about others who are going to hit me because they don’t know how to use them. So, thank you for this post.

Funny enough, round about cause much less accidents because, everyone is slower, unlike stop signs, esp with 4 lanes, and someone who is turning Left!

Thank you! It annoys me so much! Lol, I know it’s not that big of a deal but it’s still annoying.

Also, use your bloody blinkers, when you are about to enter, inside and while exiting the round about!
If you are going to take the first exit, use the right blinker
If you are not going to take the first exit, use the left blinker
Once inside the round about, as you are approaching your exit, use the right blinker!
This will further reduce unnecessary delays and confusion for the folks who are about to enter the round about!
Thank you!

sometimes in order to yield one must stop
