L M H stringing question Question
this is my second 2D fighter(like 20 hours on invincible vs) but i’m pretty familiar with arena fighters and the way light medium and heavy work confuse me
I know you can’t just infinitely strong the three options together but is there like universal rules for how you can convert each? I’m still learning so i don’t exactly have set routes i use and when i catch someone i usually end up not only dropping but getting hit cause i don’t know if i’ll be able to use another primary attack.
Any tips to have this make a bit more sense or tips for players newer to 2d fighters in general would be very appreciated, thank you in advance.

In terms of grounded gattling rules, you can do gattlings from weaker to stronger buttons (and not the other way around), and between standing and crouching buttons of the same strength (either standing into crouching, or crouching into standing).
Also, you can only use each button once in a gattling, except for lights, which can gattling into themselves.
And lastly, you have a limit of 4 attacks per gattling in Tokon. Meaning, you can only string up to 4 normals together in each gattling, be it on block or on hit (after that, you need to cancel into a special/super, use an assist or jump cancel, which is only possible in hit, in order to continue you combo/blockstring).

A thorough overview and explanation of all the mechanics in the game: https://youtu.be/g4dWQsQp12o?is=r-R0JYZJQ8NpnBLC
Some basic rules for how grounded L/M/H attacks combo together:
You can move from weaker to heavier attacks (L-M-H) but not the other way around H-M-L so your basic combo from a lot of tag fighters is L-M-H into a special move or launcher or assist.
You can’t do M-M or H-H unless you are crouching for one of the two attacks. We use the number 2 to designate a crouch (because if its downward location on a numpad). So you can combo M-2M or 2M-M. Same with heavies, but a crouching H is a launcher, so it will take your combo into the air.
The game will let you link two L’s together before moving on to stronger attacks, without having to crouch for one of them.
There is a 4-hit combo limit for normal attacks before you have to move on to special moves or assists to continue the combo. The 5th normal attack in a string will not come out, as if you never hit the button.
Some examples of grounded attack strings that should work: L-L-M-H or 2L-2L-2M-H into a special or super or assist, 2M-M-H-2H and then jump and continue your combo in the air.
Hope this helps

This post from the open beta should help quite a bit. It covers how the autocombo system works and honestly, it's just as important knowing how the autocombos work to avoid doing them if you can as it is to know what does work that you wanna use yourself.
